A: Cavision has calibrated the Cavision Cinematographers 65' Tape Measure.

Q: 2. My notebook has one "USB type C 3.1 Gen 1". it's compatible?

A: This is not compatible. USBC can only carry up to 20GB/s bandwidth while Thunderbolt 3 (over a USBC plug) carries 40 GB/s. You would need all of the 40 GB/s bandwidth offered only by a Thunderbolt 3 capable mother board to effectively utilize this device. Anything less than Thunderbolt 3 speeds for the interface will have undesirable results.

Q: 3. Is this speaker powered or does it require an amplifier?

A: An amplifier or receiver is required o power this speaker.

Q: 4. Is there an external case that this drive can be mounted in and then be hooked to a PC or Mac via Thunderbolt?

A: We do not currently carry an appropriate enclosure, but what you would need would be a 5.25" SAS (not SATA) enclosure that supports tape drives.

Q: 5. Is the YoYotta software required to use on Mac OS? Or can the drive be used plug and play?

A: The Yototta software is not required. You can use the included mLogic LFTS Utility.

A: You can attach the MTAPE-TB3-LTO8 drive to a Thunderbolt 1 or 2 Mac using the Apple Thunderbolt 3 adapter. The only requirement is that the Mac being running 10.12.6 or higher.

A: The Sonnet Echo Express SE I will accommodate an Elgato Cam Link Pro.

Q: 8. Can this read and retrieve data from LTO 6 tapes?

A: No, it can only read and write LT0-8 and LTO-7.

Q: 9. Two Questions1. Does this support daisy chain? that is can I connect this to my iMac and then connect my GPU box to the Sonnet? 2. Can I connect it to my iMac with Thunderbolt2 adapter?

A: Yes, it supports daisy chain, via a second Thunderbolt3 port on the back.I connect my MacBook Pro using a Thunderbolt2 adapter. You lose performance, of course, but the functionality is all there.

Q: 10. Will Black Magic Decklink 8K work in this?

A: Yes, the Black Magic Decklink 8K will work with the Sonnet Echo Express SE PCIe Card Expansion System.

[1] We purchased one of these units back in January, 2020 for use in a University audio/video recording setting. I believe we've already transferred over 150TB. There is a lot of relief when you know your master recordings are now backed up on something that lasts longer, is faster, closer and easier to deal with than stumbling and slow 'Cloud solutions' or having to shelve dozens of aging drives! We use YoYotta software with it. So far it has worked really well. The only issues we have had are with a LTO cart or two that had a problem and failed during the transfer process, not after. It is pretty darn fast and easy to hook up using thunderbolt. The Software is also great for adding metadata and sending emails to let you know it is finished once verified checks of the transferred data are complete. Because of 4K, file sizes are soaring ever higher, yet the mLogic LTO 8 is pretty darn fast and so good at 'retrieving' past recordings, I plan on buying one for my own personal use. As always, your mileage may vary. 5

[1] Our small video agency recently upgraded our LTO drive to LTO-8 and started buying these tapes for our footage and project archives. The significant capacity increase with only marginal increase to cost per tape saves our company a lot of time and money. So far the tapes have been very reliable and performed well during archive and restoring. We will be buying plenty more in the future. 5

[LTO-8, LTO-9] I've purchased dozens of these and haven't had any issues to date. Works as expected & reliable. I'm using a mLogic mTape LTO-7 drive. The only minor quibble I have is that they don't come with any sort of label/sticker. 5

[LTO-8, LTO-9] I use this to archvie 4K digital cinema data, using a tape library to back up a RAID. The tapes are expensive and the process is slow and cumbersome, but it is probably the most stable format for archiving digital data. If you are developing a new system, you'll probably want LTO-6, but if you're already on LTO-5, this product is just fine. Keep in mind that eventually you will need custom labels, so buy a bunch of them in advance. 5
