A: We do not currently carry an appropriate enclosure, but what you would need would be a 5.25" SAS (not SATA) enclosure that supports tape drives.

A: You can attach the MTAPE-TB3-LTO8 drive to a Thunderbolt 1 or 2 Mac using the Apple Thunderbolt 3 adapter. The only requirement is that the Mac being running 10.12.6 or higher.

A: ST6000VNA01 is the IronWolf Pro 7200 rpm model while the ST6000VN001 is the IronWold 5400 rpm model.

A: The 8TB IronWolf 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5 Internal NAS HDD is not ideal for gaming when it comes to the read and write speed of the drive. I recommend an SSD from Seagate, their 4TB (BH #SEZA40001A01) that has faster speeds for gaming.

Q: 9. Will this Seagate 4TB IronWolf 5900 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD work properly in a Promise Pegasus 2 R8?

A: Yes, however if running RAID you should always match the drive types exactly. If running in JBOD this would be perfectly fine.

Q: 10. What is the maximum temperature these drives can safely operate at for extended timeframes?

A: The Seagate 8TB IronWolf 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD (OEM), B&H # SEST8000VN4, is designed with an operating temperature of 32°F to 149°F (0°C ambient to 65°C drive reported). The maximum allowable drive reported temperature is 149°F (65°C). It is not recommended to operate at sustained temperatures above 60°C, higher temperatures can affect drive health.

[360 MB/s] We purchased one of these units back in January, 2020 for use in a University audio/video recording setting. I believe we've already transferred over 150TB. There is a lot of relief when you know your master recordings are now backed up on something that lasts longer, is faster, closer and easier to deal with than stumbling and slow 'Cloud solutions' or having to shelve dozens of aging drives! We use YoYotta software with it. So far it has worked really well. The only issues we have had are with a LTO cart or two that had a problem and failed during the transfer process, not after. It is pretty darn fast and easy to hook up using thunderbolt. The Software is also great for adding metadata and sending emails to let you know it is finished once verified checks of the transferred data are complete. Because of 4K, file sizes are soaring ever higher, yet the mLogic LTO 8 is pretty darn fast and so good at 'retrieving' past recordings, I plan on buying one for my own personal use. As always, your mileage may vary. 5

[1] Our small video agency recently upgraded our LTO drive to LTO-8 and started buying these tapes for our footage and project archives. The significant capacity increase with only marginal increase to cost per tape saves our company a lot of time and money. So far the tapes have been very reliable and performed well during archive and restoring. We will be buying plenty more in the future. 5

[1] I've purchased dozens of these and haven't had any issues to date. Works as expected & reliable. I'm using a mLogic mTape LTO-7 drive. The only minor quibble I have is that they don't come with any sort of label/sticker. 5

[12 TB] I use this to archvie 4K digital cinema data, using a tape library to back up a RAID. The tapes are expensive and the process is slow and cumbersome, but it is probably the most stable format for archiving digital data. If you are developing a new system, you'll probably want LTO-6, but if you're already on LTO-5, this product is just fine. Keep in mind that eventually you will need custom labels, so buy a bunch of them in advance. 5
