Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hello, I am looking to buy an inkjet paper to print in black and white. The paper texture I am looking for is very similar to the old traditional Ilford paper rigid and the texture like pleached, interwoven, I don't know how to explain but I have a picture I can send to you. If you zoom it you can look at the texture I am talking about. Could you please help me? Regards, Carlos Herdocia

A: Baryta paper is very similar to the Ilford Multigrade darkroom paper in both texture and thickness. Since I am a former darkroom printer, this is my favorite paper because of its resemblance to the Ilford Multigrade paper.

Q: 2. Which Black ink for this paper: Photo Black or Matt Black?

A: You can use both Photo or Matte ink with this paper.

Q: 3. A question regarding the excellent review (Kevin) of Hahnemuhle WT 310 Matte: The review mentions a clay stabilizer being compromised due to the texture of the paper. Does that clay originate in the printer head and become dislodged and then create the clog? If so, which printer is referred to?

A: The clay isn't in the printer head; it's in the paper. ALL inkjet-specific papers have a clay stabilizer as it is vitally important to how the paper works: The clay stabilizer provides a consistently receptive surface to receive the ink droplets so that tones and colours are consistent across the paper. The stabilizer also has the function of dramatically reducing the amount of ink required to create a saturated image. To those who don't understand this concept, two points:1. Print on regular art papers, like watercolour. It will work, but the print quality will be very poor, colour and density will be awful, even with double the amount of ink compared to inkjet-specific papers.2. Use a knife to scrape the printable surface of any inkjet-specific paper. It will produce a fine white powder, or chips that can be broken up to form a powder (depending on how much binder is in use). This is why most papers, including this one, are single-sided -- because the stabilizer is only applied to one side of the paper. Others like Moab Entrada have the stabilizer applied to both surfaces. All such papers have a lignin-free substrate to make them archival, but you are not printing on the substrate; your ink never reaches it. Again, this is trivial to demonstrate by making a print, then gently scraping the stabilizer away to reveal the paper substrate beneath.-- Kevin

Q: 4. With the rounded edges with this paper, can I print borderless, without seeing the rounded edges using my Epson HD-15000 photo ?

A: The Hahnemuhle FineArt Pearl FineArt Photo Cards (4 x 6", 30 Cards), BH #HAFP46285, is not compatible with borderless printing. For borderless printing, the paper has to be rectangular shaped.

Q: 5. What is the mil of this fine art paper?

A: It is about 19mil.

Q: 6. What's the single sided equivalent of this paper? It has more texture than the ultra smooth but less than the standard photo rag. Just wondering because I love this paper but don't need double sided. Thanks!

A: The Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Bright White would be the most similar single sided option: https://bhpho.to/3HYbbGg

Q: 7. Does the paper have a pearl finish?

A: This paper is a FineArt pearl.

Q: 8. Does this paper contain optical brighteners?

A: I haven't seen anything on the Hahnemuhle website concerning OBA's being used in the Fine Art Baryta papers, and while I have used this paper an awful lot, I have yet to notice any change in character for the paper. I really like the gamut available. If you're concerned about OBA's, I believe the Hahnemuhle Photo Silk Baryta is OBA free.. Also, I believe the Epson Glossy paper is OBA free - if not gluten free.

Q: 9. Do they work with an inkjet printer?

A: Yes, this paper would work with an Inkjet printer

Q: 10. I have been using only the Epson Premium lustre paper for a while and I find it leans toward a blue-ish hue. I wanted to try another brand. I have an espon 3880. have you experienced any quirks with this brand?

A: This may be due, at least in part, to your printer's color profile calibration as well.

[Single] This paper is beautiful, a little heavier texture than some It enhanced the work we printed and the print looks like it was created with felt not a print. I highly recommend it.

[83.5%] I needed art cards to be made for a jewelry display. I needed something thick and with tooth similar to watercolor papers. I tried a lot of papers and this one won out. It was a perfect choice as it makes the digital texture look like art itself!

[83.5%] I've been using Hahnmuhle paper for nearly two decades. I'd tested previously Bamboo and enjoyed its warmth but I desired a more textured option, albeit with less texture than German Etching. This is the ideal paper for me: warm, great texture, great handling, and carries an image very well. This paper will become a standard for me.

[1x Paper Roll] I love the subtle texture of the sugar cane. It doesn't do as well with deep shadow areas as the Photo Rag but it is still a lovely paper. I purchased on box and ordered more afterward.

[83.5%] The texture of Hahnemuhle's sugar cane paper gives my photos an artistic quality, making them more attractive to art collectors. The archival nature of this paper also appeals to serious collectors. The fact that bagasse is used is also key in our ecologically aware world and is very much appreciated by me and my hip customers. Thanks for an extraordinary product.
