Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this paper contain optical brighteners?

A: I haven't seen anything on the Hahnemuhle website concerning OBA's being used in the Fine Art Baryta papers, and while I have used this paper an awful lot, I have yet to notice any change in character for the paper. I really like the gamut available. If you're concerned about OBA's, I believe the Hahnemuhle Photo Silk Baryta is OBA free.. Also, I believe the Epson Glossy paper is OBA free - if not gluten free.

Q: 2. How accurate is the white and is there a color shift regardless of printer?

A: The Photo Luster 290 Inkjet is 110% white and the image will fade over time, unless using a glaze that rejects UV light.

Q: 3. A question regarding the excellent review (Kevin) of Hahnemuhle WT 310 Matte: The review mentions a clay stabilizer being compromised due to the texture of the paper. Does that clay originate in the printer head and become dislodged and then create the clog? If so, which printer is referred to?

A: The clay isn't in the printer head; it's in the paper. ALL inkjet-specific papers have a clay stabilizer as it is vitally important to how the paper works: The clay stabilizer provides a consistently receptive surface to receive the ink droplets so that tones and colours are consistent across the paper. The stabilizer also has the function of dramatically reducing the amount of ink required to create a saturated image. To those who don't understand this concept, two points:1. Print on regular art papers, like watercolour. It will work, but the print quality will be very poor, colour and density will be awful, even with double the amount of ink compared to inkjet-specific papers.2. Use a knife to scrape the printable surface of any inkjet-specific paper. It will produce a fine white powder, or chips that can be broken up to form a powder (depending on how much binder is in use). This is why most papers, including this one, are single-sided -- because the stabilizer is only applied to one side of the paper. Others like Moab Entrada have the stabilizer applied to both surfaces. All such papers have a lignin-free substrate to make them archival, but you are not printing on the substrate; your ink never reaches it. Again, this is trivial to demonstrate by making a print, then gently scraping the stabilizer away to reveal the paper substrate beneath.-- Kevin

Q: 4. How many pieces of paper in the box? or how many posters could you print?

A: This box contains one roll of paper, which is 24 inches wide by 39 feet long. The number of posters you can print with this item depends on the size of the posters you plan to create.

Q: 5. Are just the tins available without the paper?

A: Unfortunately the metal case that comes with the Hahnemuhle FineArt Baryta FineArt Photo Cards (4 x 6", 30 Cards) is not sold separately.

Q: 6. Can this canvas be stretched? How does it co,pare to the Hahnemuhle Daguerre canvas?

A: Yes, this canvas can be stretched. Both are great canvas sheets, but I found the Hahnemuhle Daguerre canvas to be a better over all paper.

Q: 7. What's the single sided equivalent of this paper? It has more texture than the ultra smooth but less than the standard photo rag. Just wondering because I love this paper but don't need double sided. Thanks!

A: The Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Bright White would be the most similar single sided option: https://bhpho.to/3HYbbGg

Q: 8. I have an Epson printer stylus 1400, and old one . What is the maximum thickness of photo paper that I can use in my printer ?

A: The Epson Stylus 1400 can handle papers from .003 to .004 inches or .08 to .11 mm in thickness. If you're interested in Hahnemuhle Photo Luster 290, it is 290 microns in thickness. or .29 mm, so the Epson Stylus 1400 cannot handle that thickness. You can use Epson photo papers if they are within the specs and I believe most are for that printer series. The thickness should be indicated on the box or in the specs for the paper.

Q: 9. I have been using only the Epson Premium lustre paper for a while and I find it leans toward a blue-ish hue. I wanted to try another brand. I have an espon 3880. have you experienced any quirks with this brand?

A: This may be due, at least in part, to your printer's color profile calibration as well.

Q: 10. Can these photo cards be sent as postcards through the mail?

A: Yes, the Hahnemühle FineArt Baryta FineArt Photo Cards (4 x 6", 30 Cards) BH #HAFAB4630 can be sent as postcards through the mail.

[83.5%] I am impressed by this durability of this paper and how nicely it renders blacks. I am using this without any glazing, and it looks great. For the cost, it is a wonderful option and it looks professional.

[1x Paper Roll] I needed art cards to be made for a jewelry display. I needed something thick and with tooth similar to watercolor papers. I tried a lot of papers and this one won out. It was a perfect choice as it makes the digital texture look like art itself!

[83.5%] I started using this paper about 4 years ago. I was looking for something with a surface similar to glossy fiber B&W. I tried several papers at the time and some had a slightly better feel for my surface needs, didn't have a base color that I liked. This paper has a very neutral base color and profiles well (I print on an IPF6400). The only complaint I have is that non-printed areas are easy to pick up marks. There are other papers I'd like to try, but this is my dialed in go to when I need to make a gallery print.

[83.5%] The texture of Hahnemuhle's sugar cane paper gives my photos an artistic quality, making them more attractive to art collectors. The archival nature of this paper also appeals to serious collectors. The fact that bagasse is used is also key in our ecologically aware world and is very much appreciated by me and my hip customers. Thanks for an extraordinary product.

[Single] I've been using Hahnmuhle paper for nearly two decades. I'd tested previously Bamboo and enjoyed its warmth but I desired a more textured option, albeit with less texture than German Etching. This is the ideal paper for me: warm, great texture, great handling, and carries an image very well. This paper will become a standard for me.
