The 11 x 14", 25-count Foma RETROBROM 152 FB Semi-Matte Paper 11x14from Foma RETROBROM 152 FB Semi-Matte Paper 11x14is a customized black-and-white paper featuring silver bromide iodide emulsion. It's made on a thick, double-weight fiber-based (FB) baryta paper base and offers a rich halftone scale. It can be used for exposure or developing. It has a fine-grain and warm green-brown tone, and the paper base is colored in a light green-yellow tint.

The mid-level optical sensitivity of this paper allows contact copying and even enlarging to big formats. The specific warm tone makes this paper suitable for retro-style images, especially portrait photos but also for still life, landscape, structure and detail, abstraction, and other applications. It's also suitable for lith printing. The paper is produced in the Sp contrast grade.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What ISO is this paper? I am using it in a pinhole camera with students and want to help them figure out exposure times.

A: Paper and film ISO speed work in different ways. As an approximation use a film ISO speed of 3-6 for papers but this may vary with the product and types of exposure. You may need to find your optimum value through trial and error.

Q: 2. What is the gsm of this paper?

A: Our information shows a 235 gsm for FOMA double weight paper.

Q: 3. This paper is 180gsm or 280 gsm?

A: The Fomatone MG Classic 131 VC FB Paper is 180 gsm.

Q: 4. Where can I find the ICC profile for this paper and an Epson 3880?Thank you

A: You will need to make a customer profile. There are services where you can print out patches on your printer without using any profile and send the sheets to someone to make an ICC profile for you. I have the X-Rite iPro2 and made a profile to use this with my Epson printer.

Q: 5. Would this paper also work good with a Canon Pixma ip8720 photo printer?

A: This has been my experience in the reverse: I have printed another brand of paper on my Epson printer, and the colors seem to somewhat off even though my printer has an option for printing other brand papers. Somehow the quality does not seem to be the same. It seems that each paper brand has its own specific thickness to its printer brand. And perhaps differences in each printers color calibration or differences in the ink used? You can by a small packet of the Epson semi-gloss and try it out on your Canon printer to see what the result will be.

Q: 6. Is this paper difficult to flatten after development? Can it be used with Ilford filters and developer?

A: Once dried, pressing them between 2 heavy books should take care of the curl for the most part.

Q: 7. We just bought a Canon iX6520 printer. It will auto-duplex sheets of paper. It appears to handle paper of this size (SG-201).Can we print on both sides of this paper?Or is the semi-gloss finish on one side only?If not this paper, can you recommend another paper that is at least tabloid-extra size (12x18) that will provide photo or near-photo quality, and that can be duplexed? We want to create books from these printed pages, so need printing on both sides.Thank you,Josh Litwin

A: The SG-201 Photo Paper Plus Semi-Gloss 13 x 19 is a single-sided paper, so you can only print on one side. We do carry this double-sided semi-gloss paper from Inkpress Media Duo Semi Gloss (2-Sided, 180gsm) - 13x19 (Super-B) - 50 Sheets (INSG1319509M).

Q: 8. Description at BH: Phenidone-Hydroquinone, but Phenidone-Isoascorbate at Foma CZ, is the US version different than EU versions?

A: I can not say if the one in CZ is different than the Foma Fomatol P (W14). Checking what we have it has a neutral tone and contains phenidone-hydroquinone.

Q: 9. Does this paper require all the extra filters?

A: Since it is a variable contrast paper, the best results would be achieved using variable contrast filters such as these: https://bhpho.to/3hToJ8K

Q: 10. Is this paper on an acid free base or plastic? What if any are it's archival properties?

A: Semi-gloss paper is technically archival when printed using pigmented inks and stored in a temperature stable environment out of direct sunlight, but if you are looking to maximize your archiveability you would choose a fine art paper (if your printer can handle the extra thickness), that would be called natural. Natural fine art paper usually means NO OBAs (Optical Brightening Agents) have been added, so that the image will darken very slowly over a very long time. OBA papers turn bluish and darken after 15 years all at once; pigment ink doesn't save them.

[Grade 2] Love this paper. Used the FB grade 4 glossy.
Makes my photos pop and definitely am going to order more. Good alternative to Ilford Gallerie at a better price. I think the better price is because the cost of living in England compared to Chech Republic. Just a tad thinner than the Gallerie but still plenty thick enough.
Only used 25 sheets so far

[25x Sheet Paper] I have really enjoyed using my 16x20 Ilford Multigrade Warmtone paper. It is definitely semi-matt and not shiny in any way. But for art prints that will be under glass, I feel it is perfect. B&H shipped it promptly and it came in excellent shape. Now I just have to find more time to make prints in the darkroom!

[Grade 2] 9 years ago I already expressed my positive opinion about this paper.
For this period of time I bought a lot of this paper from B&H. I do lith printing. Lith developers some gone, another arrived, but paper is still my favorite in lith printing .
