Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this fit in the empty slot of the 5-lens hard case?

A: Of the two cases available for the NiSi ATHENA Cinema Lenses, the NiSi Hard Case for Set of 9 ATHENA Cinema Lenses fits the NiSi ATHENA PRIME 135mm T2.2 Full-Frame Lens (ARRI PL).

Q: 2. What is the actual weight of the lens?

A: The lens weighs 3.1lbs.

Q: 3. Is it possible to change the mount on an E mount lens to a PL mount? I have a Sony camera now, but in case I change cameras late

A: It is not possible. I would get the PL version and use an E-mount adapter if you want the most flexibility in the future.

Q: 4. Is there a version with lens data?

A: The P+S TECHNIK EVOLUTION 2x 75mm T2.4 S35 Prime Lens (PL Mount, Feet) is only offered in this configuration.

Q: 5. What focal length does the EZ-1 crop to due to FF read element if its 15-40mm?

A: The Angenieux EZ-2 15 to 40mm Cinema Lens Pack (Super35 and Full-Frame) will expand to cover a full frame sensor, making it function as a 22-60mm lens, when used with the full frame adapter.

Q: 6. Any way to convert the PL to EF mount to fit onto the 0.71x canon speed booster?

A: The conversion is not possible, as the flange distance would not allow for this to focus more than a few inches at best.

Q: 7. Hi! Is angenieux ez compatible with angenieux extender 1.4x and 2x?

A: I'm afraid not, the 1.4x and 2x extenders are for the Optimo Zoom Lenses only.

Q: 8. Can I use this lense on a canon c300 m III, s35, like a "normal" filmmaking lense ?

A: Yes, although you would need to use the optional EF mount adapter - https://bhpho.to/33v2JZ3

Q: 9. Will an 80mm - 95mm clamp fit on the 14mm for adding a matte box? Thanks.

A: Yes, the outer diameter of the lens is 80mm, so the clamp will fit.

Q: 10. Does the Lumix S5mk2 and mk2x mount not allow room for the drop in filter when put on or to screw in properly?

A: Yes, the drop-in filter goes into the lens in front of the mount of the NiSi ATHENA PRIME 40mm T1.9 Full-Frame Lens (Leica L, Drop-In Filter Mount) and will mount perfectly to the Panasonic Lumix S5II/S5IIx.

[1x 1/4"-20] 35mm is a focal length I used quite often on both super 35 and full frame cameras. I sometimes wanted just a bit more reach and shallower DOF. The 40mm length achieves this quite well, and may reduce my need for a 50mm.

I have been using the Rokinon Cine DS lenses for years, and wanted to step up to the Vespid lenses after seeing many good examples and positive reviews. I won't claim there is a dramatic night and day difference, as the Rokinons are not nearly as bad as some would have you believe. I will say the Vespids have a thicker look to them, with richer blacks and more overall character. They have much less breathing than the Rokinons, too. Of course, the build quality is substantially nicer, so I expect them to far outlive the Rokinon lenses.

I have a full set of Rokinons, and I will gradually replace most of them with the Vespid lenses. I currently have the 21mm, 40mm and 75mm, which cover the majority of my shooting needs. I will likely get the 90mm macro and possibly the 16mm wide. Overall, the Vespids are as good as people say, and worth a look (or rent if you're curious).

[43.3 mm] very good balancing between clinical precision and anamorphic identify. I bought 2. Wish i bought the set at one time.

[T2.2] There are so many budget cine lens options out there, but rarely do you get a reasonably priced EF mount cine lens with smooth gears, solid as a truck metal build, that goes up to T2 AND has macro capabilities. This whole series from Sirui is fantastic. I own the 50mm and the 35mm, got both of them on sales from B&H in like new condition, hundreds of dollars off an already great starting price. I'm just waiting for a sale on the 24mm. The resolution of the glass easily handles 6K or 8K sensors so you get crisp details in the in focus areas. I use it with a speed booster on the Red Komodo which opens it up even wider than T2! Crazy sharp in the center and softer and somewhat vintage as you move to the corners, but sharpens up across the frame above T4. The macro capabilities are awesome and the icing on the cake that I feel really sets this lens apart from Mieke, DZOFilm, and other budget cine series of lenses. My only complaint is that there are only 3 lenses in this set. Really hoping Sirui will release an 18 or 20mm along with a 70 or 85mm.

[1x 1/4"-20] True 2x anamorphic with Panavision C style look.
T2 a little soft, but truly unique character. High build quality.

Wish there was a way to add lens data via the mount. /i data.

[T2.2] I bought a set of Viltrox anamorphic lenses, which are amazing, but I wanted something smaller and lighter for my FX6/Ronin 4D. These Blazar lenses are a lot of fun. I only have the 65 so far, which I find wide enough for most situations without having the issues in the corners that the 45 had. Waiting to try out their new ones, I just need something slightly wider and another slightly tighter. Waiting to hear what they say about the new additions.

[40mm] Coming from spherical lenses - the price tag might seems high - especially for a relatively unknown brand. But it’s actually very affordable compared to the competition !
Anything cheaper for full frame will fake some of the characteristic of anamorphic lenses, and have no or very low squeeze. I wish it had a 2x squeeze - but the 1.8 squeeze probably allow to slightly more affordable price - while being optimal for 16:9 sensors, that are most likely what you’ll use it on...
Paired with a A7siii the image quality is amazing !
I recommend pairing this with a monitor that allow you to see the desqueezed image, as it can be fairly hard to focus without it, and framing as well can be challenging.
For an anamorphic lens, it’s very sharp, even wide open, I mostly shoot at T4 though mostly because it can be challenging to nail focus with this kind of lenses, as they’re slightly softer than spherical (not in a bad way, image is very pleasing), similar to using a light diffusion filter.
Overall, I totally recommend this lens, hopefully we see a 2x version soon too !
Also, if you’re in a limited budget, I would recommend the 40mm MFT version paired with a Blackmagic pocket 4K... the package would come to $4500 vs $12000... for a little more than 1/3 of the price, result is very close. The A7siii has an edge in low light obviously but if you’re using even minimal lighting (which you should), it shouldn’t be an issue. The blackmagic has the advantage of having a bigger screen - easier to manually focus without monitor.
Both are fantastic combos - and a lot cheaper than Cooke paired with an Alexa ...

[T2.2] It's not exactly Optimo quality but still a gorgeous lens by Angenieux. Covers a good range, has excellent optics, and incredibly fast (T2!). Not too heavy for hand held... And with the replaceable back (to fit full frame) and PL mount it should have a very long life. I own both the EZ1 and EZ2 and together they make a perfect kit.

[1x 1/4"-20] Love this lens! But I have it setup with the DJI Lidar RS as well and haven't used it on it's own outside of basic testing.

The lens itself is very nice - solid construction with a decent front loaded weight, and an easy enough to balance shimming system for mount swapping. The glass offers a lot of character with minor fringing and fairly low distortion, get it for that classic softer cine look and don't expect it to be the cleanest/sharpest lens around. I personally love how it rolls off the highlights and still gives details in the skin but also a bit of softness, when paired with my c70.

All that said, I bought this lens as part of a whole setup to solve a specifc problem, and for that purpose I couldn't be happier! I shoot mainly with a c70 in solo operating conditions as a b-cam op. This lens not only solves most of my focusing issues, but it also serves as the fastest setup with it's auto calibration feature when paired with DJI's Lidar RS. Now I get a decent jump in hitting focus while in auto via the Lidar mod, and I have the added benefit of more unique cine lens look vs my native Canon DSLR glass. It's awesome, and has performed perfectly for me so far! I only wish that they'd release a wider 21mm Cyber or maybe a 16 or 18 instead.
