Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. This camera has a bulb seting, can you hook up a remote cable?

A: Sadly there is no way to attach a remote cable to it.

Q: 2. Has anyone had dust issues on the sensor or in the lens that has effected the image(s) ?

A: Unfortunately, point and shoot cameras will always be harder to get dust spots off of if it gets on the sensor, but they are a relatively well sealed unit so it all depends on your use and in what conditions it is primarily shot in.

Q: 3. Is this camera good for shooting the night sky? Like the moon and stars? What is a good affordable camera for that?

A: The Canon PowerShot G7X has a Star Nightscape mode under the Scene Mode [SCN] on the camera's Mode dial. If you are looking for a point-and-shoot camera with a built-in lens for star photography and night sky photography, this would work for your usage needs. If you are trying to get close-up images of the moon, the Nikon COOLPIX P1000 Digital Camera, B&H # NICPP1000, would have a much larger zoom and the ability to get very close images of the moon, but it is a much larger camera and in a higher price range. For a more economical option, the Canon PowerShot G7 X would be a good option for your usage needs.

Q: 4. I am a novice who has no idea about photography. Can I use this camera to photograph Northern Lights? Read this was a good camera for low light photography.

A: It all depends on your expectations and your skills. I would not recommend Canon G7X for a novice to shoot Northern Lights. You will be shooting in the dark, having to focus manually (camera will not AF on faint and defuse lights), having to manually select high ISO and long shutter speeds.

Q: 5. How do you charge the battery? Would a Canon CB-2LX battery charger be compatible?

A: The Camera comes with an included charger to charge the battery outside the camera. You can also charge the battery through the USB port with your cell phone charger if you prefer, it just takes longer.

Q: 6. Is there a limit to how long it can record for at 1080p 60fps, besides battery and sd size? Also, can it record while it is charging

A: 30 minutes is length of record time.

Q: 7. Is there a pause after a snap the shutter before allowing me to take another picture or can I immediately snap another as I can with my Canon 70D?

A: there is no pause after shutter

Q: 8. Does it have a date stamp option on the pictures?

A: No, but the date/time is embedded in the image properties of each photo file. Note that the date/time saved is whatever the camera is set to, so you have to set the correct date/time in the camera for this embedded time to be accurate. In other words, if you have the wrong date/year, that is what will be saved in the file.

Q: 9. How good is the Image Quality of the built-in Zoom Lens, especially in Sharpness at edges/corners at different Focal Lengths? Thanks!

A: You will find the lens is well matched with the sensor and processor of this camera. It will be sharp over all throughout the zoom range. If your are needing extra sharpness, you can do what all pros do: use a tripod and set the aperture to f/5.6-8 for maximum sharpness/image quality.

Q: 10. Would you recommend this camera for mainly photographing active toddlers? I've heard conflicting reviews about the autofocus. Not sure if I splurge on the Sony RX 100 V instead...

A: Hard to say. Bought to take on European family trip, so not a ton of action shots. So auto focus was slow at times, but not enough that disturbed my pics. Good luck!

[Polycarbonate] I love this camera for quick, spur of the moment picture taking. I carry it everywhere I go. Hiking, walking, all our weekend outings. Selfies have never come out better (because the camera is easy to hold and you can see yourself) I'm also using this camera for vlogging. My only disappointment is that you cannot add an external microphone.

[2.68 lb] Took two or three days to get comfortable with this little gem but I'm entirely satisfied with it now. I like its choices in auto and programed modes, and its manual settings are precise and accessible. No optical viewfinder, but its very large and informative touch-sensitive viewing screen tilts to allow waist-level shooting (a definite plus for me) and even selfies (if you must). It feels solid and well-balanced, compact without being small. (Bonus points: It handles low light with aplomb and its B/W filter does, to my eye, a fair approximation of good ol' Tri-X.)

[Polycarbonate] I loved this camera the 1st time I had it and I’m so glad to have it back in my possession. The clarity can’t be beat. It’s perfection in every way. The battery life is really slim (small battery… so it’s to be expected) so I will be purchasing a few more back up batteries. Other than that it’s a gem :)

[2.68 lb] Just returned from a dive trip to Cozumel and used new Fantasea housing for the first time. Everything seemed fine and no leaks. I did dive once with the housing without the camera as directed, The housing seems more sturdy than my previous Canon for a different camera which flooded. The directions instruct you not to close the housing when flying due to the cabin pressure. I left the back ajar and the back did seal during the flight and was VERY difficult to open to insert the camera to get ready to dive. Otherwise so far so good- used it for 10 dives to date.

[Black] It's great, have used it for years. Mind you, I wish it didn't need replacing every 40 or so uses but I guess it's the price you pay for peace of mind.

[Polycarbonate] I bought this case a few days ago after gathering all info on the Fantasea, Canon and Ikelite housings. I chose the Fantasea because it had great reviews and seemed to be a quality product without being too expensive. It works beautifully. Easy access to buttons, even touch-screen, everything worked great. I highly recommend this housing.

[Polycarbonate] This is a great housing in it's simplicity. It doesn't confuse me with so many buttons. It has only the functions that are necessary. I have taken great pictures with it. It works perfectly every time.

[2.68 lb] I'm a retired commercial photographer and video producer of 40 years. I wanted a compact camera for photo and video that would serve me well. Over the last 2+ years this small but mighty camera has given me everything I've asked it to do. Full auto, manual operations of all types and never a failure. I'm impressed. Delighted to have this camera with me wherever I go.
