[0.045 lb] THE LEICA LENSE DESIGNER HAD WANTED FOR A LONG TIME TO DESIGN A REALLY FABULOUS 50mm LENSE, BUT LEICA KNEW IT WOULD BE HAND MADE AND VERY EXPENSIVE. LEICA SAID NO ONE WOULD PAY THAT MUCH FOR A 50 mm LENSE. MANY YEARS PASSED AND FINALLY LEICA ALLOWED THE DESIGNER TO CONTINUE. I HAVE ONE AND I SHOOT ALMOST EVERY THING WITH IT. I LOVE IT AND IF I DIDN'T HAVE IT I WOULD BE LOST UNTIL I COULD GET ANOTHER ONE JUST LIKE IT.

[0.045 lb] FABULOUS LENS. EXTREMELY SHARP AND THE COLORS ARE JUST BEAUTIFUL THAT I HAVE SEEN FROM IT SO FAR. I LIKE THE FACT THAT IT IS NOT NEARLY AS HEAVY AS MY EARLIER LEICA 90MM LENS.

[0.045 lb] I finally returned to Havana to conduct a workshop for a few aspiring professional photographers. I took the 90 Summicron along to see how I managed my Leica set-up and the weight the system management I'll have when I'm working. I took a few portraits with the 90 and I liked the very much, since lately I seem to be focusing on head-shots. The lens was a dream to use, and not too much of a weight burden. Overall, the lens is truly great! Though most who are used to auto focus will complain about some difficulty focusing this lens, but that is the Leica experience, to return to when the photographers' skills are more important that the equipment. For me, the craft of being a professional photographer is making my idea of the image paramount in the experience of shooting.

[0.045 lb] The 90 is a great focal length for bringing the world closer. As with all Leica lenses this is a beauty to hold and use. It is so well made and everything clicks and turns like it should. The image quality is, what can I say, the sharpest!

[0.045 lb] I'm here to attest that this lens does actually exist. As a long-time owner of the APO50 that has enjoyed its combination of ergonomics and performance immensely, I put in the order for this lens the week of its release announcement. After an unbelievable wait of 15 months (even the B&H staff were shocked), I got the call.

The addition of the 0.3m focus is a really nice. Leica has started changing over their 35mm Summilux, hoping they can figure out a way to change up some of their 50s. On a Leica body, the performance is peerless. Not much needs to be said here other than this lens will test your photographic ability as the lens is unforgiving.

On other bodies that I've tried adapting this lens to, Sony A7III and Canon R5, no matter what aperture, the corner performance falls apart, particularly focusing at infinity. I had better success cheating with Leica's 50mm lenses.

The attached samples are shot on either a TYP246 or M10R. I will admit the price is eye-watering and will give you pause, or as it were, gave me pause. But since returning to the computer after that first series of shots, all I can think about is where to go shoot next. Well done Leica, what a little wonder of a lens!

[0.045 lb] Leica M shooter for... years as well as Nikon owner. I switched to the Leica SL system with the Panasonic S1R and its 47 Mpix (did the same with Nikon Z7 and the Z 35mm lens) therefore I do have some ways to compare the two offerings. The Leica SL Apo-Summicron is always over performing the Nikon Z 35mm lens. Sharper - way sharper -everywhere on the field. Better color rendition too. No distortions visible (probably thanks to digital corrections). With the S1R/SL 35mm combo, the results are really above the M10P/Summilux 35mm, you got AF in the mix and twice the pixels count! Is this lens the new reference 35mm lens, I really think so... I have never seen this type of details and definition in any other systems before. Super expensive, very difficult to get (long waiting list), but the willing photographers will be rewarded with impressive results.

[0.045 lb] Lost my original cap and had a difficult time finding a replacement. B&H came to the rescue. Had what I needed. Thanks!

[0.045 lb] I was on B&H's waiting list for well over a year when I found one of these rare gems for sale in London and grabbed it. I own six M lenses (and as a Leica M shooter for 50 years I've owned many more in the past) and this lens seldom leaves my M11. The other lenses are collecting dust for the most part. I just don't need anything else. A Leica employee told me they're discovering that many of the owners of this lens stop buying and using other Leica lenses (could this account for the scarcity?). Performance is unrivaled in all aspects. Size and weight are fine. If I had to find a single fault (other than price) it would be that the hood scratches easily, but that's about it. Is it insanely expensive? Yes. Is it worth the expense? To me, yes.

[0.045 lb] I am a long-time Leica shooter and have been using several 35mm Summilux and Summicron M lenses. I listened to Mr. Peter Karbe's presentation on SL lens design, and appreciate the idea of increasing contrast to give viewers a stronger perception of the three-dimensionality of the image. I love to shoot wide-open to use maximum light designed for the lens.

When shooting wide-open, Summicron-SL renders images similar to Summilux but retains the depth of field of F/2.0 which fits better to my needs. This lens is indeed the best of any lens designed to date by any technical standards. The image details are alive by the rich scales of micro-contrast and micro-tones. Of course, this is a super sharp lens, but the sharpness alone will not bring life to the images. We are talking about Leica magic here!

I will not hesitate to choose this one over Summilux 35mm ASPH FLE or Summicron 35mm V4 Bokeh King for the image rendition. This Apo-Summicron-SL 35mm is truly a lovely lens technically and artistically.

[0.045 lb] Having been spoiled by the clarity of my primary lens, the Leica APO-Summicron-M 50mm f/2 ASPH, I decided to order a Leica APO-Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH as my tertiary lens after my Leica Summilux-M 90mm f/1.5 ASPH. In the meantime my Leica APO-Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH has advanced to be my primary lens. As expected, the corner-to-corner performance is outstanding. The closest focus distance of 0.3 m with the Leica Visioflex 2 comes in handy so that I do not have to carry around the Leica Macro-Adapter-M with the more than 1 kg weight of my 90 mm lens any more. The brilliant color redition of the APO-Summicron-M 35mm prompted me to order a 104 cm by 127 cm print which resurrected my previous photographic passion to inspire others. The long wait for this lens was worth it.
