The Explore Scientific ED80 80mm f/6 Triplet Refractor Telescopefrom Explore Scientific ED80 80mm f/6 Triplet Refractor Telescopeis a true apochromatic telescope that reveals celestial wonders such as lunar terrain, the structure of Saturn's rings, and the brightest deep-sky treasures of the Messier catalog.

Offering true diffraction-limited optics with genuine HOYA FCD1 ED glass, the ED80 is a high-quality telescope ideal for spontaneous, grab-and-go stargazing sessions. Featuring an air-spaced triplet optical design that virtually eliminates chromatic aberrations, this telescope generates high-contrast images by combining genuine HOYA extra-low dispersion (ED) glass and proprietary EMD enhanced multilayer deposition coatings on all optical surfaces.

Although it is a standout telescope on its own, the ED80 is also compact enough to mount on a larger telescope, which can add versatility to your astrophotography experience by separating the guiding and imaging duties. The telescope tube's outside diameter is 91mm.

The ED80 features a 2" rack-and-pinion focuser with two extension tubes. The Explore Scientific Hybrid Finder Scope Base is also installed on the scope to support an optional finder scope.

A: The image will be backwards so it is not recommend to use as a terrestrial scope. But you could adapt it using an erect image diagonal such as this Celestron: https://bhpho.to/2eMF3WV

Q: 2. What parts do I need to mount my Nikon Z mirrorless to this scope?

A: You would need this T mount adaopter to connect the Nikon Z camera to a T mount slipped into the eyepiece mount of the telescope: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1494991-REG/vivitar_hf_t2_nik_z_t_mount_to_nikon_z_mount.html Then you will need to get the actual T mount : https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/202135-REG/Celestron_93625_SLR_35mm_OR_Digital.html

Q: 3. What adapters or accessories should be purchased for attaching to a micro-4/3 camera (Olympus OM-D EM5 mark3)?

A: In order to adapt an M43 camera to the Explore Scientific ED80 80mm f/6 Essential Series Air-Spaced Triplet Refractor Telescope you would need these 2 parts: https://bhpho.to/4dUckfj plus https://bhpho.to/48hlWwL.

Q: 4. What do I need to purchase along with this product to connect my Canon 60D for astrophotography ?

A: First you would need a T-Adapter that goes into the eyepiece part of the scope. The Celestron-SLR (35mm OR Digital) Camera Adapter would work great. Wesbite Link to the T-Adapter: a href= http://bhpho.to/1lwAhIO target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1lwAhIO/aNow to mount your Canon 60D you would need what is called a T-Ring, which threads onto the T-Adapter. The Vello Lens Mount Adapter-T-Mount Lens to Canon EOS Camera will be perfect. Website link to the T-Ring: a href= http://bhpho.to/19wYgWY target= _blank http://bhpho.to/19wYgWY/aThese are the 2 adapters you would need to attach your camera to this scope.

Q: 5. Is the Hoya FDC 100 ED better than the standart ED ?Thanks

A: The FCD1 Glass is very very good for photography, not a lot of difference visually though between them.

Q: 6. What is the max magnification this scope can use?

A: For maximum magnification I would not use an eyepiece lower than 5mm. I comes with a wide view of 25mm

Q: 7. Can you put it on a nicer tripod; can it come off of the tripod it comes with?

A: The tripod that is included has a different thread then your standard tripod head mount. So you won't be able to use a different tripod unless you go about doing some modifications.

Q: 8. I purchased this scope a few weeks ago. I have yet to achieve focus using a dslr without the diagonal. I've purchased 2" extension tubes that just dont fit on the tubes that came with it. What extention tubes actually fit on this?

A: What make and model of camera are you using and where in the scope are you mounting the camera

Q: 9. What would I need to use my existing 2" Optolong filters with this telescope?

A: No other purchase is necessary. It is set up for 2"

[480 mm] I have had this scope for a few weeks now and the optics are great. I do some visual but usually I do astrophotography using ASI AIR PLUS and a ZWO ASI 183MC camera. The images I get are great and stars are tack sharp with no color bloating or fringing.
Files are FITS files and as soon as I figure out how to use a good photo processing program my photos will look better. Only wish the focusing tube was longer so I dont need to ad so many adapters extensions to reach focus, But everyone go's thru that issue.Scope works great with a DSLR also. I am glad I bought it and B&H delivered fast and well packaged.

[480 mm] The Explore Scientific AR102 is an excellent intermediate scope. The 102mm glass catches a lot of light and provides a great deal of detail with a low Dawes limit. The controls are smooth and solid. Because of its' long focal length, a more substantial mount would be useful to prevent some wobbling during adjustments. I would definitely buy this scope again.

[1.45 Arcsec] Purchased the ED 102 triplet to expand my “grab and go” astronomy equipment inventory. Have an ED 80 Triplet, which is excellent, and wanted something with a little larger for deep sky photography on the road. Paired with ZWO AM3 ,ZWO ASI2600 Duo and ZWO ASIair Plus is a great working combination. ED 102 has great optics, and I had used a borrowed one in the past with excellent results. Looking forward to some clear nights to put the new ED 102 through its paces.

[Dovetail] Love This Scope,It Gives Great Planetary Views, and Some Deep Space Objects Like The Orion Nebula and Star Clusters Are Amazing,Very Little Fringing Or Chromatic Aberration Around Bright Objects,But If You Want To Image,I Suggest a Stronger Mount,But For Visual,It Works Great

[1.45 Arcsec] Traded up from an AR102mm to the 102mm FDC100. Fantastic views of jupiter and Saturn. Can easily see the Cassini division. Had my first ever view of the Andromeda Galaxy. I love that I can have everything assembled and one hand it onto my mount. Just waiting on a better camera to try some DSO imaging.
B&H customer service has been top notch.
