Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there any advantage to using PL over EF mount for use on a Canon C500 mkii?

A: PL tends to be a stronger locking connection over EF. Also, the Canon C500 camera has a PL mount version that may require you to work with PL lenses.

Q: 2. I'm impressed with this lens but how do I get more contrast out of it? and more color? It's rather plain-looking. Filters?

A: The IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 Cine Lens (Canon EF, Feet) is neutral in color and has good contrast generally speaking. You can add color filters to the lens or in post. You can shoot more contrasty lighting or add contrast in post.

Q: 3. Would it be better if I use the ef-mount version on a mft sensor camera (gh5) with a speed boost or would it better to use mft version of this lens?

A: it is always better to use the native version of the lens.

Q: 4. does this lens work with the Canon 5d mk iv autofocus?

A: This is a manual focus cinema lens. it does not auto focus.

Q: 5. I want to mount this lens on my PL-mount ZCAM camera and on my EF-mount Blackmagic 6K Pro. Which adapter ring is best?

A: There are two options that would allow you to mount a PL lens like the IRIX 45mm T1.5 Cine Lens to your Black Magic Pocket 6K Pro. The best option is from Wooden ( BH #WO274700) which would convert your P6K to a PL mount camera. Also there are PL to EF adapters ( BH #FOPCEAAP ) that could also be an option. Please note that the IRIX lens has not been tested with the FotodioX PL to EF adapter.

Q: 6. Can I use this lens for still photography as well, switching back and forth from video applications?

A: While this is a manual focus cinema lens you can still use it for photography.

Q: 7. can i use this on my black magic pocket 6k?

A: Yes you can.

Q: 8. Is the lens mount user-swappable?

A: This lens is not user-swappable. I recommend going to Duclos Lenses for professional mount conversion and calibration. They offer the IRIX lenses in ARRI PL, Canon EF/RF, L-Mount, Micro 4/3, Nikon Z, and Sony E mounts.

Q: 9. Will Irix release L, Z, and RF mount lenses in their regular photography line of lenses?

A: We have not heard of any imminent plans for those particular lens mount options.

Q: 10. Is this considered a FF lens? So on a S35 chip the focal length would be 1.5x magnification?

A: Yes, the IRIX 45mm T1.5 Cine Lens covers full frame sensors. There will be a 1.5x crop factor when using this lens on cameras with a Super35 sensor.

[Canon RF] I've been renting cine lenses for years for some of our bigger projects but never pulled the trigger on getting one. I mean, I have the Sigma 18-35 Art (photo) lens and I just can't justify spending 4K on the cine version. But this lens comes at a great price (paid $1,200) which in early 2020, happens to be cheaper than the Xeen primes. Not to mention Canon, Sigma, Zeiss CPs and the rest. -- I've shot a few test shots and the 45 looks very sharp and smooth with no noticeable CA. Focus throw is 180° and the overall feel is solid! - Can't wait for Irix to come out with a couple of more primes.

[Canon RF] It never stoped to amaze me the kind of build this lens has. Nice big and a little on the heavy size. I will compromise well build for fragility, I may also add this has a very nice glass. Overall very satisfied with the lens.

[Full Frame] WOW! Is all I can say about the IRIX 45mm F/1.4 Dragonfly on my Pentax K1 - Mark II. I took the risk of purchasing the IRIX Dragonfly lens and I have really found it to be an exceptional lens in Bokeh, clarity, color, sharpness and very easy to focus manually. Very well built and I love the fact it is weather sealed. It is unique in references to the image quality and the look of the photos I get from this lens. I have really enjoyed using it.

[Imperial] I was a little bit skeptical about buying this lens at first considering that I've never heard of Irix before. However, don't let that stop you. This lens is extremely sharp, even at wide-open!!! The footage you can get with this lens at T1.5 is crazy! Not to mention that this lens doesn't have any noticeable color fringing, and is constructed out of a solid metal exterior, and doesn't flare at all when in direct sunlight. If you're looking for a budget cinema lens that punches a lot higher than its price, I can't recommend this lens enough.

[11, Rounded] I love this lens. 45mm is perfect because it is between the 35 and 50 primes that I tend to use most of the time, mostly via manual focus with my Pentax K1. Extremely sharp and contrast is very natural and slightly less contrasty than other recent Pentax lenses yet with great color. I recently shot a parade with this and the top of the line $2k Pentax 85mm f1.4 SDM AW. Almost all the keepers where with the 45mm. Highly recommended. I've also owned the 15mm (broke) and currently own the Irix 21mm which is a perfect focal length for indoor shots (same as iPhone main lens field of view). I also highly recommend the Irix 21 and 15. One downside: the infinity focus stop on Irix lenses is not calibrated so you can focus past infinity. I use Live View to get it right.

[43.3 mm] 8K sharpness, weatherproof, low focus breathing, solid metal build quality, 180 degree focus throw. The list of features go on and on. For the price I have never found a lens like this. I compared for months Sigma Art series, SLR Magic’s, Zeiss Milvus. Personally this lens should sit next to higher price brackets like Sigma Cine, New XEENs, Zeiss CP2’s. Having this lens for a week I can say this lens lives up to every feature. Shooting on my Pocket 6K this thing makes it feel like I have a whole new camera or at least like I’m finally taking full advantage of my sensor. Can’t recommend this lens enough. I plan on buying the brand new 15mm Cine and the 150mm Cine macro all 3 will be the price of a single average priced Cine lens!

[Canon RF] First impressions, this lens is well built the focus and aperture rings have a nice resistance. I am having so much fun with this lens, it has interesting characteristics. The lens so super crisp.

[Full Frame] I like taking pictures in museums and in many cases a flash simply won't work and most low mm lenses are wide to ultra wide angle so when I saw the IRIX 45mm F/1.4 lens for my canon I decided to give it a try because I have had a swiss watch years ago that never failed to give perfect time. I got the package from B&H and when I opened the box discovered the beast of a lens. I put it on my camera and took some test shots at different f/stops and was thrilled. So much so that just last Saturday I shot a small outdoor wedding as a favor to my daughter. I put the IRIX on my oldest canon (EOS T1i) and took another camera and lens. The IRIX was a pleasure to use and the pictures were as perfect as they could get making it almost impossible to tell if the pictures were taken by my auto focus or the IRIX manual focus. I am so happy I got this great lens from B&H Photo.

[43.3 mm] Very sharp and focus lens. I use it on my Canon T4i and my newer 80D. It works nicely with both. Have a new puppy so need a fast lens which works in low light.

[11, Rounded] But unfortunately I've heard of some of them coming apart internally. So... hopefully mine lasts, because it certainly makes gorgeous images and is a pleasure to rig and use on set. I'd compare it and cut it with my Zeiss Milvus lenses, no joke.
