Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would this fit my canon eos rebel t5? Would I need an adapter?

A: Yes the IRIX 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 Lens for Canon EF is compatible with the Canon T5 camera. It does not need an adapter.

Q: 2. This lens vs the Sony 90mm OSS macro, what will get a bigger overall image at the minimum focus distance?

A: The IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 Lens will achieve approximately 3.3" by 2.2" at it's closest. The Sony 90mm OSS Macro will achieve approximately 4.4" by 3" at it's closest. Therefore the IRIX 150mm will magnify more.

Q: 3. Does this lens have auto exposure (aperture setting)? I understand that it is manual focus. But, I am not clear if you can set the aperture using the regular camera controls.

A: Yes, the aperture is controlled through the camera body.

Q: 4. Can it be use with the Canon EF 2x extenders to expand the focal range on a Canon C100 Mark ll camera?

A: Unfortunately this lens is not compatible with Canon extenders.

Q: 5. Is it suitable for 6K Resolution Sensors?

A: The image circle covers full frame sensors, so as long as your cameras sensor supports 6K, this lens will also support 6K. Lenses do not have anything to do with resolution support.

Q: 6. Will this PL mount lens work with Panasonic L-mount?

A: No it will not.

Q: 7. Will Irix release L, Z, and RF mount lenses in their regular photography line of lenses?

Q: 10. Is this lens suitable for still photography as well as for video?

A: While the IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 Lens is designed for Cinema use it would also be perfect for still photography. Keep in mind it is a manual lens with no autofocus or stabilization.

[15mm] The 150mm allows 1:1(or 2:1) with the TC, to be pretty far away from bugs. The Sharpness is terrific. Used with the manual helps in a mirrorless camera, its easy to get a sharp image in manual.

[9] Backgorund- Over the years I have used a variety of macro lenses. My favorites have been the Nikon 200 f and most recently, the Sigma 150 2.8. I like shooting with the 150-200 range and find that having a tripod collar is very useful in helping get the right angle for the shot.
The Sigma was an older version which would not work with the Z series so I bought the Irix as its replacement.
My impressions of this lens:
Case- Excellent semi rigid
Image quality- Outstanding
Ergonomics- very good
Works very well with z series- focus peaking is spot on.
Overall- Great lens- Exceptional value for the $$

The qualifiers:
The tripod collar is not smooth. I have to fiddle with it in order the change the orientation.
On a z7, this lens is very front heavy and uncomfortable to use hand held. Not an issue for my style (always on a tripod) but this may be an issue for those who plan to use it as a portrait lens.

[86 mm] I use the IRIX 150mm f/2.8 Macro lens on a Nikon D850. The lens is solidly-built, but not very heavy. Since I shoot my macro either on a tripod, a focusing rail or with flash, the lack of image stabilization is never a factor. Additionally, macro is best done with manual focus, so the lack of auto focus is not an issue. The focusing ring is large, smooth and very easy to use at macro/close-up distances. Toward infinity, the range of movement is more limited and it takes some patience to get sharp focus. I have used this lens also for tracked astrophotography with good results, but is best stopped down to f/5 because of some coma at the edges of the full frame. For regular use this lens appears sharpest at f/11, then f/16, then f/4. I have noticed no chromatic aberration. The bokeh is excellent. The tripod collar is handy and works well. So far, I have found little need for the focus lock function and have noticed no evidence of a focus shift with the lens pointed downward when focus stacking. Metering and aperture control in camera works fine. As for the most important aspect, how do the pictures look? The images have been very sharp with good detail, contrast and color all across the frame. I am very satisfied with this lens as well as the excellent and prompt service by B&H. If I were to compare it with another one of my macro lenses I would sat that the images are sharper with this IRIX lens than with my older Nikon 200mm macro lens. This lens is designed for macro as close as 1:1 and it certainly performs as promised.

[T2.6] Great lens, love the fact that it is weather sealed and the length of the lens doesn't change when focusing as all that is internal to the housing, IQ is extremely sharp and Bokeh is lovely!

[86 mm] The IRIX 150mm f/2.8 Macro is well built, comfortable in hand, and delivers superb image quality. The manual focus range and resistance are perfect; allowing for very accurate focus adjustment. The weight of the lens is comfortable in hand. Overall a fantastic buy!

[9] I had the critically-acclaimed Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 VC USD lens; was never all that thrilled with it. I even had it get internal debris TWICE, though Tamron removed debris both times without hassle and at no cost to me. But once I got my Nikon Z7 I found the Tamron caused the Z7 to do weird things (such as a bunch of weird clunking sounds in the Z7 each time I turned it on with the Tamron 90 mounted). So when I learned of this Irix 150 I decided to try it. I am SO glad I did. I have now sold the Tamron with no regrets.

I have not yet used the Irix much at all, but on its maiden voyage (into sub-freezing weather, with my fingers [and brain] moving slowly) it was super easy to use and seems to give superb results. I especially appreciate that the collar has an Arca-swiss compatible foot; fits on my RRS BH-40 ball head & clamp perfectly.

Last note: the manual focusing turns through 270 degrees, and is extremely smooth; it is precisely what I want and need in a lens like this. I am very happy to add this lens to my kit!

[9] This lens is all I anticipated. Images are sharp and I love using it for focus stacking. Before buying I had borrowed a Nikon 105mm micro/macro, a Laowa 90mm macro, and this same model Irix. The borrowed Irix produced visibly crisper images, and this one that I just purchased does the same - excellent quality images.

[T22] I am new to photography, and I am not very good at it. However, I am interested with a niche related subject: astrophotography. With the equipment I have I can do both widefield and very narrow shots of the night sky, and I wanted something in between that I could also use on a day-to-day basis.
This was the winner from all my options. Opening the box, the build and materials quality is above my expectations. As far as macros go, I still have lots to learn. The main reason I bought this lens for is astrophotography, and doing this it really shines.
Shooting wide open the distortions are minimal, but stopping down to f/4 there is no noticeable fringing or coma, and the vignetting is manageable.
Manual focus is not something that bothers me, but the extremely shallow depth of field did surprise me, so it took me some time to get used to it.
All-in-all, for my experience level and the applications I use this lens in, it really provides more than I know what to do with.

[9] I had been wanting to get this lens for a long time. I decided to reward myself and go ahead and order it. This is my first IRIX lens. The packaging from IRIX is fantastic. It made it feel like my lens was gift wrapped. I have taken it out 2 times already and love how the images turn out. I can't wait to see how the rest of my spring time photos turn out!
