$131.97 $200.59

The Tiffen 67mm Low Contrast Filtercan be applied to purposely reduce contrast while photographing an image or while recording video. By redistributing illumination from brighter to darker areas within a scene, this filter is useful in helping to balance the tonal range among highlights and shadows. Detail is increased within shadow regions while a halation effect around highlights is created which can further enhance a scene's appearance or produce a desired effect.

This filter has a grade of 1. Grades of 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this filter made of glass or plastic?

A: It's glass and I love this filter.

Q: 2. Is it soft-edge graduated?

A: Yes.

Q: 3. If I use a warming filter on a bright sunny day will it affect the colors?

A: Yes Tiffen 67mm 812 Warming Filter will affect the colors in a bright sunny day. You may need to set the white balance of the camera to custom before using the filter though.

Q: 4. What is a graduated neutral density filter?Does the filter rotate? By this I mean, can I rotate the filter to high light certain areas?

A: A graduated neutral-density filter is an optical filter that has a variable light transmission. Typically half of the filter is of neutral density which transitions, either abruptly or gradually, into the other half which is clear. It is used to bring an overly-bright part of a scene into the dynamic range of film or sensor. For example, it can be used to darken a bright sky so that both the sky and subject can be properly exposed. There are typically two types of graduated ND filters, which are hard edge and soft edge. This particular Tiffen Graduated 0.6 ND filter is a feathered graduated ND filter, which means that there is a natural-appearing taper between the density and clear areas of the filter. This filter does not rotate.

Q: 5. Would it make sense to use these filters on a digital camera shooting in B&W mode? I experimented holding up a red filter from my old B&W film days on a Sony pocket camera and the results looked promising. Now I have a Canon SX50HS and would like to get screw-on filters but think when I learn how to use it better there may be a way to filter it internally. Would a polarizer do basically the same thing?

A: While it is entirely possible to use these filters with a DSLR in b+w mode, it will not be the same as shooting black and white film, as a digital camera shoots in RGB and then converts to a black and white profile. If you do choose to use these filters with a DSLR shooting in black and white, you will need to set a custom white balance as well, as the camera will see the green/red/yellow and try to correct for them in auto white balance or other preset white balance modes. Additionally, another option you can try is to shoot your images in RGB mode, and then in post production, particularly in Adobe Photoshop, add a B&W layer or a Channel Mixer layer to obtain a more accurate black and white image. A circular polarizer will work as well.

Q: 6. Hi,Will this filter set work for AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR? Can you please let me know?

A: Yes, that filter kit will work on the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens. The lens uses 67mm filters and the kit includes 67mm filters.

Q: 7. Are they stackable?

A: Yes, they are.

Q: 8. Does this work well on the Milky Way?

A: It helps to remove some light pollutions from the sky

Q: 9. This filter is very loose (cannot fully tighten, keep rotating) when stacked on top of a B+W XS-Pro 67mm filter... Faulty unit? XS-Pro 67mm diameter slightly wider than TIffen 67mm?

A: I believe this filter is meant to be loose so that it can be easily turned to get the gradation to hit your photograph in the perfect position. Mine is loose as well and works well. It's my favorite filter!

Q: 10. what size are this filter?

A: The size of the Filter is "Filter Wheel 1". That is the Filter Size.

[0.175 lb] I checked videos online about tests done with this filter to see which Ultra contrast filter level I was going to buy. I decided to go with UC 2, and now that I have it in my hand and could perform tests on my own, I must say it is pretty strong. the UC 1 is just enough. Another thing you must take into account is that the exposition can not be trusted from the camera. With this filter you have to use a light meter all the time. Because the camera reading is at least 1 1/2 stop under the real exposition. Other than that is a great tool when you are shooting video, and don't want those black without information, and you want to avoid overexposed highlights
