A 1.5x squeeze ratio is a perfect balance between the size and anamorphic intensity. With a 1.5x squeeze ratio, you will have a 2.66:1 on a 16:9 sensor after de-squeeze. There is also room for you to crop into a 2.4:1 widescreen ratio.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use an EF to MFT adapter to mount the EF version of these lenses on the Blackmagic Pocket 4k?

A: Yes, you should be able to adapt the lenses of the Venus Optics Laowa Nanomorph S35 Prime 3-Lens Bundle (ARRI PL & Canon EF, Silver Flare) to your Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema camera 4K using an EF to MFT lens adapter.

Q: 2. Will the EF version work if I use an EF to Sony E mount adapter on my A7s3?

A: Although, an EF to E-mount adapter would work for mounting the Venus Optics Laowa Nanomorph S35 Prime 3-Lens Bundle (ARRI PL & Canon EF, Silver Flare), when equipped with their EF mounts, to a Sony A7S III, these lenses are Super 35mm sensors and for using with the A7S III, you would need to crop the sensor to a 1080p mode to avoid vignetting.

Q: 3. When use with a full frame like the R5C, do we still benefit from the full size of the sensor or do we need to crop in ?

A: The Venus Optics Laowa Nanomorph S35 Prime 3-Lens Bundle could work if the R5C is set to S35 cropped sensor mode. The lenses would not work when the sensor is in full frame mode.

Q: 4. Does it only fit the 28mm? Does not fit in the 50mm or 35mm E mount version?

A: That is correct, the Venus Optics Laowa Nanomorph 27mm T2.8 Interchangeable Bayonet (ARRI PL) only works with the Venus Optics Laowa Nanomorph 27mm T2.8 anamorphic cine lens. The other two lenses have specific adapters just for them.

Q: 5. How do you think these lenses will hold up on a dsmc2 scarlet w? or should they be best use with dslr cameras

A: The following lens are optimized for Super 35 CMOS sensor and work very well with dslr as well.

Q: 6. Is this mount for the mirrorless version of the lens or for the PL/EF version and this is just a replacement mount?

A: There are many other versions of the Venus Optics Laowa Nanomorph 27mm T2.8 lens. The adapter would be used with the X-mount, MFT mount, and E-Mount models that do not include the EF adapter.

Q: 7. Does the lens work with the RED RF-PL adapter with ND electronic filters?

A: The Venus Optics Laowa Nanomorph 27mm T2.8 1.5x S35 Anamorphic Lens (PL/EF Mounts, Silver Flare) would not be supported with the RED DIGITAL CINEMA V-RAPTOR RF to PL Adapter with Electronic ND Filter. RED PL tolerances: https://bit.ly/3RqUasB

Q: 8. How much does the lens weigh?

A: The lens weighs 11.04 ounces / 313 grams.

Q: 9. Weight?

A: The approximate weight of the Venus Optics Laowa Nanomorph 35mm T2.4 1.5x S35 Anamorphic Lens (FUJIFILM X, Silver Flare) is around .79 lb / 320g.

Q: 10. What is the equivalent horizontal field of view of this lens vs. a spherical lens? Is it 20/1.5 =13.3mm?

A: Yes, the Venus Optics Laowa Nanomorph 20mm T2.2 1.5x MFT Anamorphic Lens (Micro Four Thirds, Silver Flare) would give you the same horizontal field of view of approximately a 13.3mm lens while keeping the same vertical field of view of a 20mm lens.

[13] I am truly amazed by the images these lenses can produce for the price and size! If you are looking for lenses that don't look sterile and have some character to them without having to sell all your possessions to afford them, then these are absolutely the lenses for you!

[55 mm] First off, there's a review with 1 start saying ( Not for professional use ) - I think that's an irresponsible opinion, without any room for subjectiveness. Since the definition of a professional really is nothing more than someone who is being paid for their work, you can't just say not for professional use, when there are many types of looks in demand by clients looking for exactly what these produce. I'd say these are definitely lenses for professionals in the right situation.

Quick mentiontions (tough body and mounts, strong gears, very controlled flaring, and ultra light).

I am not saying these are the best tools for every job, and I agree that there are some issues regarding the lenses distortion - which are easily noticeable in review videos (evidently the other person didn't study before buying), which for me, has all be quickly addressable in an editor with limited adjustments if I decided to correct it.

However, I have already had a few clients, including my own personal work, where the look and feel these lenses with the distortion they create is preferred, it added a feel to the image, it was the deciding factor to use these for the productions actually (feature films), it added a driving mood that complimented the narrative - so when I say they are a tool, I am simply saying - understand what your tools have to offer, and you will know if they are the right ones for the jobs, and in those cases, these lenses are phenomenal. They are a little too sharp for my typical feel, but I slapped a custom made filter in my matte box, and they have become the perfect look for my film making aesthetic.

Study these lenses on YouTube, understand their strengths and weaknesses, and make sure those strengths align with your objective - if they do, BUY THESE - I love mine.

[27mm] Great value for the price. The aesthetics of the images achieved are beautiful. It would be nice to have a detailed manufacturer's video of the mount change from PL to EF.

[1.41 lb] Ive used the 27mm for a while and was convinced I needed something a bit closer for my kit. Great tool to have and compliments the the other lenses as well for both my Komodo and R5C! Very little distortion, barely any breathing and the silver flare is not obnoxious! Recommend these lenses as they are small and light and great intro to the bigger and beefier vintage anamoprhics.

[55 mm] These lenses have a constant 1.5x squeeze factor, which gives consistent results across the entire focus range and makes for reliable de-squeezing in post. Other affordable Anamorphic lens brands do not have a constant squeeze factor. This lens is clean with minimal chromatic aberration only at the very lowest T-stop. It is incredibly lightweight which is useful in run and gun productions. I cant speak for the PL mount, as those may have a bit more heft to them. Flaring is very gentle on the silver version and slightly more aggressive on the blue and amber versions. You cant go wrong with this lens. See attached example.

[T2.8] Conversion with supplied EF mount was not too difficult. Fit is perfect. Love this affordable option for shooting anamorphic. Ordered the Laowa Venus 1.33x front anamorphic adapter to get a 2x squeeze out of it. Because of the availability delay on the adapter I can't report on the two together yet. But at a 1.5x squeeze I'm pretty impressed. Every review on youtube has been pretty spot on so no need to repeat it here.
