This B+W 49mm MRC Circular Polarizing Filterfrom B+W 49mm MRC Circular Polarizing Filterreduces reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. Light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing it to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage. Objects and people behind surfaces such as shop windows and car windshields become visible again, a fascinating image enhancement without the need for image processing in post production.

B+W MRC Basic filters are equipped with the exclusive Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) nano premium coating technology. This high-quality broadband coating is applied on both sides and enhances the optical imaging properties, allowing uniform and increased transmittance across the entire light spectrum to be achieved, with minimal physically induced remaining reflection. The nano all-round protection on the filter glass also ensures increased scratch resistance as well as extremely fast and easy cleaning for a long filter life.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this fit on top of the NiSi Swift VND system?

A: NiSi Swift True Color Pro Nano CPL for True Color VND and Swift System (82mm) does not front threads. You can connect the NiSi 82mm True Color Pro Nano Circular Polarizing Filter first and then attach the Variable ND filter on top if necessary. However, the VND filter mention above already has a coat of CPL on the glass.

Q: 2. A previous response states this filter is compatible with a 17mm lens. Will it also work (and not cause vignetting) on the canon RF 14-35mm at 14mm on full frame?

A: The Canon RF 14-35mm f/4 L IS USM Lens (B&H # CA1435RF) is designed with a filter thread and should work well with the B+W 77mm MRC Basic Circular Polarizing Filter.

Q: 3. Will this fit the Sigma 35mm dg dn f2?

A: Yes, the Tiffen 58mm Circular Polarizing Filter will fit the Sigma 35mm DG DN F2 lens.

Q: 4. Does this have a very noticeable color shift?

A: B+W 67mm MRC Basic Circular Polarizing Filter does not have noticeable color shift.

Q: 5. The specs do not specify slim design, but the narrative description does. Is this definitively a slim design?

A: The B+W 95mm MRC Basic Circular Polarizing Filter does have a slim filter ring design. This filter is compatible with wide-angle lenses with an equivalent angle of view of a 17mm lens on a full frame camera.

Q: 6. Are B+W polarizing filters water resistant? Can I use them in the surf? Will salt water damage them?

A: The B+W MRC Basic CPL filter does not have a tremendous amount of water-resistance to them. With anything, we recommend rinsing off any salt/sand/sediments off your items and devices if doused in saltwater. For a more water-repellent filter, we'd recommend the B+W Master CPL which has enhanced water-beading nano-coatings. https://bhpho.to/3ynwlZc

Q: 7. This seems to be recommended for Leica Q2. Will it work with the lens hood in place?

A: Yes the B+W 49mm filter can be used with the hood that comes with the Leica Q2 camera.

Q: 8. What is the Filter factor?

A: The B+W High-Transmission MRC-Nano Master Circular Polarizer has a filter factor of 1-1.5 stops.

Q: 9. Is this nano coated?

A: B+W 72mm MRC Basic Circular Polarizing Filter BH #BWCPB72 comes with Multi-Coating and Resistance-Coating.

Q: 10. What is the difference between this and a Kaesemann polarizer? B&H doesn't sell Kaesemann in 62mm, but this costs the same.

A: The Kaesemann series filters are currently being phased out. We have no 62mm size left and soon other sizes will be gone too. The Master series has the same optical quality at the prior Kaesemann series but they added a better grip due to optimized filter ring knurling and it is grease-free for easy rotation.

[Brass] Of course a polarizer works every time. However I had a perfectly good Hoya polarizer on the lens and I decided to remove it. I couldn't budge it. This is frequently a problem with filters that use an aluminum housing. I was very frustrated and when I got home I heated it with a hair dryer and as it cooled it came off easily. I don't normally carry a hair dryer when doing photography. B+W use copper housings I believe, and they DON'T stick! It comes off easily EVERY time. The polarizer works perfectly too.

[Brass] Really made my fall color pictures pop. Waterfalls look so much better with the surrounding reflections controlled. I got the size that fits my biggest lens and use reducing rings for the others.

[Brass] The circular polarizing filter is a great basic for any photographer. It brings out the blue in the sky or water. It can alleviate some of the haze in the air and make your photos a just a little crisper.

[Glass] In addition to B+H quality it is MRC with nano coating on both sides and rotates freely. It adds a feature that is extremely practical in the field. This filter ring is highly knurled and thus easy to rotate and precisely adjust for a given angle of the sun.

[0.1 lb] I have B+W MRC polarizing filters for all of many many lenses in both Canon and Nikon systems. They are well constructed, optically fine, easy to use and just plain high quality filters. This one is of a slightly different style than all my others. The circular adjustment moves very freely on a rather heavily knurled ring that is easy to use, though is not exactly like any of the others I have. I've gotten used to it and like it on my small Canon 50mm AF lens.
