The 72mm Kolari Vision Blue IR/NDVI Lens Filter 72mmfrom Kolari Vision Blue IR/NDVI Lens Filter 72mmworks with full spectrum cameras to transmit both blue and IR, making it ideal for NDVI crop analysis applications. It allows an NDVI to be generated from a single image using the blue and red channels of the image. This filter is also useful for landscape photography, as it produces a similar effect to a 590nm IR filter after a channel swap, right out of the camera. This standard version of the filter features uncoated glass and an aluminum ring. (An optional pro version is available that has coated glass and a brass ring.)

A full spectrum modification is required to be made to your camera. This entails manually removing the camera's low-pass filter and replacing it with a clear filter. Once that's done, this filter will work as intended. (Kolari Vision can make the modification for you at a cost if you send in your camera to them.)

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you please confirm that ordering this filter includes and ships with a magnetic mounting plate for the Canon EOS RP body?

A: Yes, the Kolari Vision IR Chrome Lite Magnetic Clip-In Filter for Canon RF-Mount Cameras comes with these items in the box: Kolari Vision IR Chrome Lite Magnetic Clip-In Filter for Canon RF-Mount Cameras, Mag Mount for Canon EOS RP Camera, Storage Case, Removal Tool. It is compatible with the Canon EOS RP Mirrorless Camera.

Q: 2. Will this work with the Nikon Z8? Full spectrum modified.

A: The Kolari Vision KV-FL1 Multispectral Flash with IR and UV Flash Filters works with most cameras that have a standard hotshoe like the Z8.

Q: 3. does this come with clear filter?

A: Unfortunately Kolari Vision EF-EOS R Drop-In Lens Adapter with VND Drop-In Filter does not include a clear filter.

Q: 4. Is this the Pro 2 version? The picture shows Pro 2, but the description doesn't. THanks

A: Yes. The Kolari Vision UV/IR Cut Hot Mirror Magnetic Clip-in Filter for Sony E-Mount Full-Frame Cameras is the newer Pro 2 version.

Q: 5. Does this filter have to be used with a full spectrum camera?

A: While it may be possible to use the Kolari Vision Pro Gen 3 Infrared Lens Filter (930nm) on an unconverted camera using a long exposure, it is not advised. One would not get good results on a normal camera. The only options for infrared photography when using a normal camera are the 720nm and 850nm filters.

Q: 6. Can this IR filter be used with Rollei Infrared 400 Black and White Negative Film? Is an approximate filter factor available?

A: The Kolari Vision 100 x 100mm Infrared Pro Filter (720nm) can be used with Rollei Infrared 400 Black and White Negative Film. This should have a filter factor of 1 when used with IR film or a sensor modified for IR. The 720nm filter works out to having about as much IR light available as a normal camera has visible light, the easiest to expose for.

Q: 7. Will the filter cups for this flash fit a Godox TT600?

A: The Filter cups are the correct size for the Kolari Vision KV-FL1 Multispectral Flash with IR and UV Flash Filters. And will not fit well on the Godox TT600.

Q: 8. What is the frame rate of the camera while using it in night vision?

A: The Minolta MN4K40NV UHD 4K IR Night Vision Camcorder (Blue) can shoot in 24, 30, and 60P when shooting in IR mode.

Q: 9. Does this have all included for florescence photography with a regular camera? or is a filter needed for camera front?

A: The The Kolari Vision KV-FL1 Multispectral Flash with IR and UV Flash Filters is made to work with a full-spectrum modified camera. But one can use it without. Results will vary.

Q: 10. How firm is the adjustment wheel? Is it loose like the Canon drop-in ND?

A: The adjustment wheel on the Kolari Vision RF to EF Drop-In Filter Adapter with CPL Drop-In Filter works as required.

[Aluminum] After long ago exploring IR images with Kodak chemical films, I purchased the Kolari K665Pro and K720Pro to use on a stock Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and Canon lenses. I chose the Kolari Pro Gen series for their sharp cutoff spectra as well as their filter coatings compared to Kolari's base series or Hoya. The Kolari Pro quality / performance / price point trade-offs were great IMHO.

I posted a review of the 665 and can not say enough positives about it!!! 5 stars!!!

Still experimenting with the 720. It is slightly more technically challanging on a stock camera, but just as impressive as the 665 so far. Highly recommend the Kolari Pro Gen series for anyone getting into IR!!!

[Aluminum] This is not a filter to have just for fun. First of all it requires you to have a Full spectrum conversion on your camera. Second of all it is for a very specific use and its price is no joke, so if you don't need it I would spend my money on something else I would use more. But in my case it's been a blast. I will use a lot more my converted camera now that I have it, and just getting started with experimenting out of the users manual I have a lot of ideas to work on with this filter.
The filter only lets through UV light so exposure compensation is required and even under bright sun you will more than likely shoot on a tripod, with high ISO using slow shutter speeds. This filter is a tool, not a toy.

[0.135 lb] Its almost magic. Se what your eyes can't see. Thats what this filter does in a full conversion camera, a tripod and a photographer capable of working with tools that are not for everyone. But if you pay what it costs and wait for it to be back ordered you are more than likely a committed photographer already. The filter can be used in a lot of scientific uses but I got it once I converted a full frame DSLR with still a lot of life ahead to full spectrum and got a very large set of filters to get the most of it shooting infrared and UV photography. So far it's been a great way to open new possibilities on creative photographic exploration.

[Aluminum] I've been using the Kolari Vision IR Chrome Lens Filter on my IR full spectrum modified Sony a7iii with the 24mm G-Master lens. In order to achieve the vibrant red foliage colors with realistic blue skies and other colors, it is critical to have the correct custom white balance. At least with the Sony this required some experimentation as the usual gray card setting makes green foliage more orange than red (see photo), and this is very hard to correct in Lightroom. With my Sony, getting vibrant red foliage pushed the hues of other colors off a bit. Your experience may differ as I'm betting it's a function of the color algorithms in the specific camera being used. I did find that desaturating all color channels except blue can be any easy way to get b&w IR images with nice blue skies (see photo). Like all filters, plan to play with it a while to see how it affects your images under various circumstances.

[72 mm] Infrared takes a hole lot of experimenting. If you convert a camera I would say make a Full Spectrum Conversion. After that a full set of filters to se your options. This filter is one of the most user friendly filters you can get for it. Have fun with it if you get it.

[Aluminum] I love it because it now it converted our full spectrum camera to a useable interview B camera as well allowing us to use it outside! Just have to use it with manual white balance due to a red hue color. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to make their full spectrum camera useable outside.

[72 mm] OK if you are not sure if you will use it don't buy it. But if you have a full spectrum camera, this is one of your filters in your IR, UV filter set. Color IR is not for every one but it can be a blast if you find a way to understand what this filter can do for you.

[Aluminum] Filter really makes a bold difference in astro imaging. Noting that the lens sun hood doesn't fit over the knurled edge of the filter. I can live with it since a sun hood is rarely needed at night... if I were to use this filter for artistic reasons during the day I might have another thought
