Kolari Vision Ir Chrome Lens Filter 58mm

Kolari Vision Ir Chrome Lens Filter 58mm

$374.97 $491.21

The 58mm Kolari Vision IR Chrome Lens Filter 58mmfrom Kolari Vision IR Chrome Lens Filter 58mmcan be used with full spectrum cameras to replicate Kodak Aerochrome IR film. It turns trees, leaves, and other foliage red while keeping the sky blue. You can achieve the Aerochrome look without any editing or quality loss. The filter features fused, dual-glass optics with anti-reflective coating and an aluminum ring.

A full spectrum modification is required to be made to your camera. This entails manually removing the camera's low-pass filter and replacing it with a clear filter. Once that's done, this filter will work as intended. (Kolari Vision can make the modification for you at a cost if you send in your camera to them.)

If you wish to stack this filter with additional filters, such as a UV, ND, or polarizer filter, Kolari Vision recommends putting this chrome filter on the front of the stack. The filter only has rear threading, plus the glass is exceptionally thick and can't function properly with another filter on the front of it.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the 67mm case fit a stacked filter (2)?

A: No, the Kolari Vision Magnetic Hard Plastic Case (67mm) is designed to fit around a single 67mm filter, it can not support two at one time.

Q: 2. What are the exterior measurements of the 52mm case?

A: According to Kolari, the exterior measurements of the Kolari Vision Magnetic Hard Plastic Case (52mm) are 1 × 4 × 4".

Q: 3. Will the filter cups for this flash fit a Godox TT600?

A: The Filter cups are the correct size for the Kolari Vision KV-FL1 Multispectral Flash with IR and UV Flash Filters. And will not fit well on the Godox TT600.

Q: 4. Is this the Pro 2 version? The picture shows Pro 2, but the description doesn't. THanks

A: Yes. The Kolari Vision UV/IR Cut Hot Mirror Magnetic Clip-in Filter for Sony E-Mount Full-Frame Cameras is the newer Pro 2 version.

Q: 5. What is the height of filters which fit in the 72mm Magnetic Hard Plastic Case from Kolari Vision? I have a 10.5mm thick filter.

A: The Kolari Vision Magnetic Hard Plastic Case (72mm) will fit a 72mm filter and the dimensions are 1 x 4 x 4". This should accommodate the filter 72mm and 10.5mm thick.

Q: 6. Is this compatible with a Fuji X-series camera? Will TTL work? If not which brands is it compatible with?

A: Yes, the Kolari Vision KV-FL1 Multispectral Flash with IR and UV Flash Filters is compatible with Fuji X-series cameras because the Fuji hot shoe is standard. This flash unit's TTL is not compatible with Fuji. However, TTL is available for Nikon and Canon cameras with the standard shoes only.

Q: 7. Can this IR filter be used with Rollei Infrared 400 Black and White Negative Film? Is an approximate filter factor available?

A: The Kolari Vision 100 x 100mm Infrared Pro Filter (720nm) can be used with Rollei Infrared 400 Black and White Negative Film. This should have a filter factor of 1 when used with IR film or a sensor modified for IR. The 720nm filter works out to having about as much IR light available as a normal camera has visible light, the easiest to expose for.

Q: 8. Is there a difference between using this vs the IRND version (#KORDINIRND6P), specifically for video capture?

A: The BH #KORDINIRND6P is only 6 stops. You cannot change the number of stops that it reduces. It is not a variable ND. The Kolari Vision VND Drop-In Filter for Kolari/Canon EF-EOS R Drop-In Adapter BH #KORDINVND210 is a variable ND filter. You can change the stops that it reduces between 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 stops.

Q: 9. What is the thickness of the filter?

A: The Kolari 100 x 100mm Infrared Pro Filter (720nm) would be 2mm thick.

Q: 10. How firm is the adjustment wheel? Is it loose like the Canon drop-in ND?

A: The adjustment wheel on the Kolari Vision RF to EF Drop-In Filter Adapter with CPL Drop-In Filter works as required.

[0.3 lb] Its almost magic. Se what your eyes can't see. Thats what this filter does in a full conversion camera, a tripod and a photographer capable of working with tools that are not for everyone. But if you pay what it costs and wait for it to be back ordered you are more than likely a committed photographer already. The filter can be used in a lot of scientific uses but I got it once I converted a full frame DSLR with still a lot of life ahead to full spectrum and got a very large set of filters to get the most of it shooting infrared and UV photography. So far it's been a great way to open new possibilities on creative photographic exploration.

[Aluminum] Infrared takes a hole lot of experimenting. If you convert a camera I would say make a Full Spectrum Conversion. After that a full set of filters to se your options. This filter is one of the most user friendly filters you can get for it. Have fun with it if you get it.

[Aluminum] This is not a filter to have just for fun. First of all it requires you to have a Full spectrum conversion on your camera. Second of all it is for a very specific use and its price is no joke, so if you don't need it I would spend my money on something else I would use more. But in my case it's been a blast. I will use a lot more my converted camera now that I have it, and just getting started with experimenting out of the users manual I have a lot of ideas to work on with this filter.
The filter only lets through UV light so exposure compensation is required and even under bright sun you will more than likely shoot on a tripod, with high ISO using slow shutter speeds. This filter is a tool, not a toy.

[0.3 lb] Shoot aerochrome with you converted full spectrum digital camera. Works like a charm, just set your white balance and trees turn red but keeps the sky blue. No need to sit in front of your computer to swap channels.
Ensure that your lenses do not create hotspots. Some lenses can create spots in the centre of images.

[Glass] After long ago exploring IR images with Kodak chemical films, I purchased the Kolari K665Pro and K720Pro to use on a stock Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and Canon lenses. I chose the Kolari Pro Gen series for their sharp cutoff spectra as well as their filter coatings compared to Kolari's base series or Hoya. The Kolari Pro quality / performance / price point trade-offs were great IMHO.

I posted a review of the 665 and can not say enough positives about it!!! 5 stars!!!

Still experimenting with the 720. It is slightly more technically challanging on a stock camera, but just as impressive as the 665 so far. Highly recommend the Kolari Pro Gen series for anyone getting into IR!!!

[Glass] Works great on full spectrum cameras. Lets you get into the deep infrared on 720nm or higher converted cameras.

[Aluminum] Filter really makes a bold difference in astro imaging. Noting that the lens sun hood doesn't fit over the knurled edge of the filter. I can live with it since a sun hood is rarely needed at night... if I were to use this filter for artistic reasons during the day I might have another thought

[Glass] I recently ordered this to have more options when shooting with a full-spectrum converted camera. It's great to be able to do false colour infrared without needing to use channel mixing in post production. It also opens up a wider range of treatments in the resulting files. I think it's my new favourite IR look.

[Glass] I have only tested this filter on my Lifepixel-modified Canon R6 (v1), but I like it already. It produces some really interesting color combinations that my other Lifepixel IR filters do not. Samples below are with custom white balance in-camera.
