Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can the mic hang upside down with the shock mount?

A: Yes, it could hang upside down.

Q: 2. Can this be used for both recording and also livestream (like for Zoom) if, for example, combined with an audio interface like the Audient EVO 4? We currently use the computer mic for Zoom classes, and we record other content using a Tascam DR-10L (and Nikon D750 for video).

A: Yes, you can use the Shure BLX14/PGA31 wireless mic system for recording and livestreaming. The output from the system's wireless receiver can be connected to your computer using an audio interface or connected directly to a camera or recorder in the same manner that you would when connecting a wired mic.

Q: 3. This mic does not change from Omni to Cardiod pattern at the flick of a switch. It has two different capsules that must be exchanged for this purpose. Did you get this wrong?

A: The CAD Equitek E70 microphone features interchangeable capsules. Included are a cardioid and an omni patterned capsule.

Q: 4. will this system work in a fitness studio? we have coaches who sweat and are active during a group fitness class

A: Yes, the Shure SLXD14D Dual-Channel Digital Wireless Bodypack System with No Mics will be able to function inside a fitness studio. Please be aware that you will need to add microphones to connect to the transmitters and that the antennas for the transmitters and receiver must be within line of sight of each other in order for the system to function properly.

Q: 5. Will the Shure UA844+SWB UHF Wideband Antenna Distribution System work with this?

A: The Shure UA844+SWB UHF Wideband Antenna Distribution System (470 to 960 MHz) will only work when using three (3) to five (5) receivers from the Shure SLXD14D Dual-Channel Digital Wireless Bodypack System simultaneously with a pair of external antennas like the Shure UA874 Active Directional Antenna (B&H # SHUA874US).

Q: 6. Will this fit well on a Samson G-Track Pro USB Microphone?

A: This will be too small to fit the G-Track Pro

Q: 7. Will this fit over a seinheiser e835?

[5 V] I was looking for an SM-81 to record acoustic guitars anyway - it was recommended to me by a friend who teaches recording engineering - and I thought the bundle was too good to pass up. It did not disappoint. The SM-81 is clearly legendary for a reason. I've now made multiple recordings with it, with several different guitars, and the tracks sit perfectly in the mix with no additional EQ and no fuss. Today I tracked a vocal with it and was stunned by how well it captured my voice. Very very impressed with this mic and I'm not sorry I sprung for the extras.

[Nickel] After doing much research I settled on buying 2 of these. I had done some previous recording with 2 SM57's, but the SM81's have a flatter sound. I have only used these to record trumpet, but they sound is great and handles the loud sound and quick response very well. I also bought a Fathead Cascade to put right at my bell, and I personally like that sound better when I'm running only one mic. The 81's are going to sound great in the hall though. I do wish that they made one box for two mics.

[0.5 lb] I bought this mic to track vocals for podcasting and public radio and I am so glad I did. It easily competes with higher tier mics and when it comes to quality and durability, this mic exceeds expectations. I loved it so much that I bought another one for a friend.

Seriously. Buy this mic. And enjoy saving yourself hundreds, if not thousands.

[Nickel] The voice sounds very bassy. Its pretty sensitive. Loved the fact that the shock mount came with it. Its well built. Its sensitive. When I monitor it I can hear sounds from far but when I use to for my calls like Zoom or teams, it just sounds great.

[Cardioid] I purchased one two years ago, this one will be it's partner.

[Nickel] I'm a musician, producer and audio designer, recording professionally for over 5 years. The SM-81 has been the small diaphragm condenser of choice in many studios since it was released. I own a pair of them and have used them primarily as drum overhead mics, and for stereo mic'ing acoustic guitars and other stringed instruments. The SM-81 is one of the most accurate mic's I've used (what you hear is what you get). They are also very well made... like long, silver, cylindrical jewels. The -10db pad and low end roll off switches are easy to get to, but not easy to accidentally switch on or off. They are also one of the quietest (low self-noise) mics. Many jazz artists love them because of their accuracy. They also work quite well for recording choirs and pipe organs.

[Nickel] We have used this microphone for several years to capture the sound of a backstage orchestra and chorus for musicals in our community theater. The sound quality is excellent and the mike gives us quality audio.

[Cardioid] The Shure SM137 is very clear and flat, and with a controllable proximity effect. The flat frequency response in particular makes this a superb performer as far as versatility goes, being well suited to most applications in a studio style setting. As far as small diaphragm condensers go, this is as accurate as any, and with the Shure brand it's most certainly hardy. Also an excellent price for a very professional microphone.

[Nickel] I use this on a Lectrosonics handheld transmitter. Top quality sound - as good as an unhyped condenser, and a tight polar pattern. And no proximity effect.

[0.5 lb] I researched many lower cost, large diaphragm condensers and heard Ken Callait recommend the SM27. I planned to purchase it myself, but my wife bought it for me as a Christmas gift, and I've already had the chance to use it on a variety of sources. It is clear and pristine sounding. It works very well on percussion elements, acoustic guitars, and works well for certain types of vocals. I'd find it a little too clean and pretty sounding for rock vocals or anything where an indie vibe is the aim, but if clarity and pure translation are what you want, this mic really delivers. The packaging is nice (I got the version with the shockmount and velveteen case), and it's obviously of solid build quality. Well worth the price tag.
