The 58mm Kolari Vision UV/IR Cut Hot Mirror Pro 2 Filter 58mmfrom Kolari Vision UV/IR Cut Hot Mirror Pro 2 Filter 58mmis designed to normalize your camera when it has either a full spectrum or two-spectrum modification. In either case, it allows light to pass normally to the sensor, so you can shoot normal photos. The filter is designed with multicoated glass optics and a slim, knurled brass filter ring threaded on both sides. (The optional standard version has an aluminum ring.)

The filter can only be used with a modified camera. A spectrum-modified camera is one in which the camera's native low-pass filter was removed in order to support certain IR filters for IR photography. If you have such a camera, this hot mirror filter will let you take normal photos without having to make any changes to the spectrum modification. The filter blocks IR light and some UV light, the same way the native low-pass filter that was removed from the camera during modification would have. The filter requires no exposure compensation.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with the Sony A7III (full spectrum modified)? I know some sony cameras have a special hot shoe and need adapters

A: The shoe on the Kolari Vision KV-FL1 Multispectral Flash with IR and UV Flash Filters will not work well on Sony cameras.

Q: 2. I have Fuji X100V wondering if the silver color is the same with this?

A: The silver color is very similar with the X100V.

Q: 3. Will this adapter work on a Canon R5C?

A: Yes, the Kolari Vision RF to EF Drop-In Filter Adapter with VND, CPL & Clear Drop-In Filters is compatible with the Canon EOS R5C.

Q: 4. Will this case close with a 77mm circular polarizer filter?

A: The Kolari Vision Magnetic Hard Plastic Case (77mm) is compatible with 77mm circular polarizer filters.

Q: 5. Is there a difference between using this vs the IRND version (#KORDINIRND6P), specifically for video capture?

A: The BH #KORDINIRND6P is only 6 stops. You cannot change the number of stops that it reduces. It is not a variable ND. The Kolari Vision VND Drop-In Filter for Kolari/Canon EF-EOS R Drop-In Adapter BH #KORDINVND210 is a variable ND filter. You can change the stops that it reduces between 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 stops.

Q: 6. How much light do I lose using this filter? Will I be able to hand hold the camera at ISO 200 and f2.8?

A: Using the Kolari Vision Pro Gen 3 Infrared Lens Filter (780nm, 77mm) on a camera not converted to IR the filter will block 10-15 stops. Using it with an IR converted camera it will be about 1-2 stops of light.

Q: 7. Can this IR filter be used with Rollei Infrared 400 Black and White Negative Film? Is an approximate filter factor available?

A: The Kolari Vision 100 x 100mm Infrared Pro Filter (720nm) can be used with Rollei Infrared 400 Black and White Negative Film. This should have a filter factor of 1 when used with IR film or a sensor modified for IR. The 720nm filter works out to having about as much IR light available as a normal camera has visible light, the easiest to expose for.

Q: 8. Is this Kolari filter actually compatible with the Canon brand ef-rf drop-in filter adapter?

A: Yes the The Kolari Vision VND Drop-In Filter is a 2 to 10-stop variable ND filter compatible with the EF to EOS R drop-in filter adapter from Kolari or Canon. So it can fit either brand of the drop in adapter.

Q: 9. Does this filter have to be used with a full spectrum camera?

A: While it may be possible to use the Kolari Vision Pro Gen 3 Infrared Lens Filter (930nm) on an unconverted camera using a long exposure, it is not advised. One would not get good results on a normal camera. The only options for infrared photography when using a normal camera are the 720nm and 850nm filters.

Q: 10. Will the 67mm case fit a stacked filter (2)?

A: No, the Kolari Vision Magnetic Hard Plastic Case (67mm) is designed to fit around a single 67mm filter, it can not support two at one time.

[Brass] Thai filter is cheap and works well. I'd rather spend more on a better camera then spend $100 on an ir cut.

[58 mm] I have only tested this filter on my Lifepixel-modified Canon R6 (v1), but I like it already. It produces some really interesting color combinations that my other Lifepixel IR filters do not. Samples below are with custom white balance in-camera.

[0.235 lb] I was surprised to find out that my top-of-the-prosumer-line Canon Vixia HF G10 camcorder did not have an internal IR filter in front of its CMOS sensor, as they are standard on even consumer-level Rebel DSLRs. I researched the Hoya, B+W, and Heliopan UV-IR cut filters for their features, and chose the Hoya for its filtering parameters, high quality, and cost. The human eye is sensitive to the spectrum of light from 390 nanometers (indigo) to 725 nm (red). The Hoya matches this cut closely, while the Heliopan is a bit broader in its filtering cut. 300-800. The B+W says there may be a blue color shift for off-axis angles of incidence greater than 60 degrees. This UV-IR cut filter should result in clearer videos in strong UV & IR environments.

[0.235 lb] This is a necessary item to screw on before you put on your ND's in sunny areas like Arizona. Keeps you from ruining what would have been some great film work.

[Multi Coated] This was a great purchase, and the service from B&H is the best. I did a last minute order and received the filter very quickly.

[Brass] Filter really makes a bold difference in astro imaging. Noting that the lens sun hood doesn't fit over the knurled edge of the filter. I can live with it since a sun hood is rarely needed at night... if I were to use this filter for artistic reasons during the day I might have another thought

[IR/UV Control] OK if you are not sure if you will use it don't buy it. But if you have a full spectrum camera, this is one of your filters in your IR, UV filter set. Color IR is not for every one but it can be a blast if you find a way to understand what this filter can do for you.
