The 58mm Kolari Vision UV/IR Cut H-Alpha Pro Filter 58mmfrom Kolari Vision UV/IR Cut H-Alpha Pro Filter 58mmcuts UV and IR light when your camera's native UV/IR filter isn't strong enough and lets some IR light pass through. It can also be used in combination with ND filters that do not cut out IR light. And it also works as a protective filter, as it causes no color cast nor exposure correction. This pro version features multicoated Schott B270 glass in a slim, knurled brass ring threaded on both sides. (The optional standard version has an aluminum ring.)

Alternatively, this filter can be used with a full spectrum modified camera to provide more than four times the sensitivity in the H-alpha (Ha) line compared to most cameras' native sensitivity, and greater than six times the sensitivity in the sulfur II line. A full spectrum modification entails manually removing the camera's low-pass filter and replacing it with a clear filter. (Kolari Vision can make the modification for you at a cost if you send in your camera to them.) This Ha filter has a similar transmission to Kolari's hot mirror filter, but with an expanded spectral response covering the H-alpha and sulfur II emission lines, making it also useful for astrophotography.

[IR/UV Control] Thai filter is cheap and works well. I'd rather spend more on a better camera then spend $100 on an ir cut.

[Brass] This was a great purchase, and the service from B&H is the best. I did a last minute order and received the filter very quickly.

[Brass] Filter really makes a bold difference in astro imaging. Noting that the lens sun hood doesn't fit over the knurled edge of the filter. I can live with it since a sun hood is rarely needed at night... if I were to use this filter for artistic reasons during the day I might have another thought

[Glass] This is a necessary item to screw on before you put on your ND's in sunny areas like Arizona. Keeps you from ruining what would have been some great film work.

[Brass] I was surprised to find out that my top-of-the-prosumer-line Canon Vixia HF G10 camcorder did not have an internal IR filter in front of its CMOS sensor, as they are standard on even consumer-level Rebel DSLRs. I researched the Hoya, B+W, and Heliopan UV-IR cut filters for their features, and chose the Hoya for its filtering parameters, high quality, and cost. The human eye is sensitive to the spectrum of light from 390 nanometers (indigo) to 725 nm (red). The Hoya matches this cut closely, while the Heliopan is a bit broader in its filtering cut. 300-800. The B+W says there may be a blue color shift for off-axis angles of incidence greater than 60 degrees. This UV-IR cut filter should result in clearer videos in strong UV & IR environments.
