Put simply, WIDI is a wireless standard designed to send full MIDI information over Bluetooth. WIDI includes a collection of smart algorithms like Adaptive Frequency Hopping to optimize the performance by selecting the best performing frequency at a given distance between devices. The latency between connected WIDI products is extremely low at only 3 ms: MIDI only transmits data at a standard speed 31.25 kb/s via cable and WIDI products using Bluetooth 5 go up to 400 kb/s. WIDI products are 100% MIDI compatible and transmit all MIDI messages over Bluetooth, including MIDI clock, long SysEx, and MPE. They provide full bidirectional transmission and reception with dual-role automation as both central and peripheral.

All you need to do is to plug WIDIFLEX into your MIDI gear's MIDI DIN sockets. The large plug goes into the device's MIDI Out, while the small detachable one goes into the MIDI In. For a direct MIDI-to-MIDI connection, simply plug a second WIDIFLEX set into the gear you want to connect with. Automatic Pairing will auto-connect both devices, and you are good to go with full bidirectional transmission of all MIDI data, including MIDI Clock and MPE. For a computer-to-MIDI connection with current macOS computers or iOS devices, you can pair WIDIFLEX with their built-in Bluetooth right away. Bluetooth (BLE) to MIDI connections are also supported. With WIDIFLEX, you can pair Bluetooth MIDI controllers with your stage piano or synthesizer, and play them from the front of the stage.

Set up WIDI groups of up to five Bluetooth MIDI devices with one central WIDI device and up to four peripherals over 16 MIDI channels. You can easily do this via the free WIDI app for iOS and Android or with the group auto-learn mode. The WIDI app also lets you store setups for instant recall.

Create fixed pairs when working with multiple wireless MIDI connections at once, and run multiple groups with automatic pairing from default memory. When you plug in your WIDI units, these connections are restored automatically every time.

The WIDIFLEX is compatible with all WIDI devices (including CME and Artesia Pro), Bluetooth MIDI controllers, Mac, iPhone, and iPad with Bluetooth 4.0 or later.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this device be used with android?

A: No, Yamaha only has iOS support for the MD-BT01. You may want to check out the apps on AppStore that support it before purchase. It is not as universal as standard MIDI over USB.

Q: 2. What type of power transformer is needed with this device?

A: You can use most USB/Ac wall chargers from mobile phones or tablets. Or one of these: Xuma 2.4A USB Charger with Folding Prongs B&H # XUCAC124: https://bhpho.to/2uEVnod

Q: 3. What is the latency/delay for Bluetooth to an iPhone? How many milliseconds?

A: At this time, the latency measurement is not specified by the manufacturer.

Q: 4. Are we to understand that this can be used with any synth/music app or just Yamaha apps? I have seen nothing, ANYWHERE, to imply that it would...

A: I could not get this device nor its USB companion device to work on any of my keyboards including a Yamaha PSR-S900

Q: 5. Is it possible to use the Wm-1/1D to stream directly to bluetooth speakers such as HomePods or a Sonos Beam 2?

A: No this is made to send Musical instruments signal only not made to send audio

Q: 6. Will this work with Ableton Live 9 Lite?

A: It will, and nicely...Great controller for the price. Knobs work great for your various effect and mod sends. Go to website for specific DAW platforms, (including Ableton). Nektar products are quite functional with many capabilities for the price. Enjoy!

Q: 7. Does it come in different colors? Or just black? Thanks!

A: The Vortex Wireless 2 is only available in black at this time.

Q: 8. Has someone connect this to Logic Pro X? Is it possible? Thanks

A: Yes you can do that.

Q: 9. Will this work on an android tablet with a mini-USB to USB adapter?

A: I highly doubt it. There are special drivers you need to install with this keyboard so it really isnt likely they would support an android tablet. Plus it is powered over USB so it wouldnt provide enough power through micro USB.

Q: 10. Will this work on a ETC Gio to fire cues via MIDI from Qlab?

A: MD-BT01 from Yamaha provides the wireless user with a wide range of performance and composing music applications by connecting iOS devices and Mac computers with instruments that use the older 5-pin DIN MIDI connections.

[0.125 lb] I used this to wirelessly connect an Akai EWI 4000s to iOS synthesizer apps. The MD-BT01 has worked flawlessly.

[3.3 to 5 VDC] I use an iPad to run an editor for my old synthesizers, and with Apple's love of minimal ports, something like this is a godsend. Definitely pricier than a wired MIDI connection, but for my gear setup I really needed the convenience of this.

Have had no connection issues so far. Using it in conjunction with a Yamaha TX7, from which the MIDI units draw power just fine.

[MIDI Power] Though I could use a wired MIDI interface, having a bluetooth version makes the setup time minimal to interact with my computer or iPad. Not having to do any work to start sequencing makes this tool a joy.

[MIDI Power] I use it with my Yamaha Disklavier piano to stream midi directly from my phone. Even without Yamaha's own app, it just works right out of the box with the particular apps I've been using to stream.

[3.3 to 5 VDC] I’ve used a bunch of midi controllers and cables in recent years but I’m really enamoured with the flexibility from this wireless midi control. I use this with a P-95 and my iPad (haven’t tried with my laptop) and it’s been an ideal set up. Highly recommend!

[3.3 to 5 VDC] Yamaha enters this market niche with a winning product, the MD-BT01. The unit performs well with no noticeable latency. The associated IOS app is a nice accessory in that it allows you to change the device name (in case you have multiple units) as well as update the product firmware. The shape of the product provides a nice handle to allow easy insertion and extraction from the MIDI equipment connectors. The price is very competitive with the only other currently available equivalent device, the Quicco Sound mi.1.
