This 49mm B+W MRC Nano 806 ND Filter 49mm 6-Stopfrom B+W MRC Nano 806 ND Filter 49mm 6-Stopis a precision-crafted neutral density filter that reduces an exposure by 6 stops for finer control over exposure settings. By increasing the density evenly across the entire image area, the depth of field can be reduced to help isolate the image subject, even in brightly lit conditions. In addition, the shutter speed can be reduced to increase image blur and enhance the sense of movement, or smooth out the look of rushing water.

All filters of the new Master filter line are equipped with the exclusive Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) nano premium coating technology. This high-quality broadband coating is applied on both sides and enhances the optical imaging properties, allowing uniform and increased transmittance across the entire light spectrum to be achieved, with minimal physically induced remaining reflection. The nano all-around protection on the filter glass also ensures increased scratch resistance and extremely fast, easy cleaning, providing a long filter life. The slim filter ring design is compatible with wide-angle lenses with an equivalent width of a 17mm full-frame lens. The top knurling is redesigned for enhanced gripping.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I regard to the question about the front threads:Note that the specs supplied by B&H say that the mfg has not provided that info. Upon receiving this filter hoping I could add the the Nikon R1C1 flash system to it (the reason I bought this unit instead of others that had no front threads) I can tell you that the threads are well over 77MM wide. I should have figured that out when the description states the filter is oversized.

A: The front threads are approximately 81mm on the XS-Pro 77mm Digital ND Vario. While it will not be possible to use the R1-C1 mounted on this filter, the flashes on the R1-C1 separate off the ring and the system comes with stands. You could mount the flashes onto stands and ultimately a tripod and light the subject in this manner, and just use the system without having the flash on the camera.

Q: 2. Will this filter fit into a tiffen 4x4 holder?

A: This filter is a 2mm filter. The Tiffen works with 4mm filters. This filter would be at risk of falling out.

Q: 3. Will this filter cause vignetting on the Canon RF 35/1.8 (using a Canon RP body)?

A: This filter would be specific to wide angle lenses, so it would not vignette on a lens like the Canon RF 35mm f/1.8.

Q: 4. How thick is this filter?

A: I don't have this filter. Not sure why I was asked by BH to answer the question. Sorry.

Q: 5. with an ultra-wide angle lens (i.e. Canon 16-35mm F4L with a full frame camera), do you get the dreaded X show up and if so at what density does it show up?

A: The X you can sometimes pick up in the image with a variable ND filter is caused most of the time by variable ND filters that go over 7-8 stops and lower quality ones. The B+W filter is fine. The one thing you might pick up is when set to the widest setting on that lens, 16mm you might pick up some vignette. And that is going to happen with that lens with most filters because of how wide it can go. The filter is designed with a thinner frame so it should be somewhat minimal.

Q: 6. I have a Sony A7S with Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS Lens and shoot video. I like the flexibility of the variable ND filter especially as I often don't have time to change filters. Is this the best for exteriors? Thanks Andrew

A: It's that or a mattbox with ND, especially for shooting Log2 or Log3 at 1600 or 3200iso.

Q: 7. i have a question regarding this filter, do I need to use the lens hood for this filter, with the filter on the lends, the hood does not fit, is it ok to use the 24-70 2.8 70-200 2.8 17-35 2.8 24-120 4.0 lenses without hood, light will not stray inside the lens, with the ND filter on.? please respond. thanks. Ara

A: My best advice is to try a few shots with the hood on and off on each lens. The W.A. (17-35) will probably give the most trouble, but check the others as well.

Q: 8. Can someone explain the markings on the filter? Thanks

A: The markings are 1/2 stop increments. This helps you determine the proper exposure.

Q: 9. Does this filter have hard stops?

A: This filter provides a hard stop at the beginning and at the end of the stop rotation. Please keep in mind there is no D-click between stops.

Q: 10. Will it fit in Lee 100 and Nisi V6 filter holders?

A: Yes, they are all 2mm thick and will work with each other.

[0.075 lb] For me this has been the perfect way to hold a constant F stop in varying light conditions. The filter has a nice range of ND stops that can be quickly and easily dialed in to hold the exposure level.

[Brass] To that one person that's looking at this awesome filter and wondering: 'Oh, this would be perfect to use as a drop-in in my Nikon XXXmm FL' Turn around, this is not the droid you are looking for. Buy a regular ND and live with having to do filter changes in the field because this model's just a bit too fat to fit! J

[Solid ND] This has been my go-to ND filter for documentary style shooting for years. Although it's not the darkest, it has the best build quality, no noticeable color shift, and of course it has the hard stop that prevents the dark x's of death. Oftentimes the internal ND filters of cameras like the c300 and fs7 don't give you enough flexibility for the right exposure. Adding an ND filter like this enables you to stay at /2.8, the correct shutter angle, and close or exactly on the native ISO. Not to mention the easy adjusting of exposure when shooting on partly cloudy days where the sun is in and out. Only negative is that a few of these have been scratched over normal use, resulting in a dark spec that would show up in skies. This is more of how I store my camera and filters than a product flaw, but you can't treat this as a normal uv filter (which should be obvious). Overall great product, I keep one on both my 16-35 and 70-200 anytime I'm out running around.

[0.075 lb] I use the variable ND filter for video work, when using my A7RII cameras, and it does the job very nicely. In the absence of built-in ND filters, it is the best method of resolving exposure issues, so that I can keep the shutter speed at optimal rates. If you are looking for the premium variable ND filter, this is the one. Not cheap, but the best!

[Solid ND] This is nice. Use it on my 12-35mm 2.8 Lumix with my GH5. No color variation, the video looks great. Note that it may not be enough for bright days when you want shallow depth of field.

[Brass] I use this mainly for waterfalls and other water movement issues. Works very well and the design and build is top quality.
