Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. will the 90mm work with the 1.4 lens extender?

A: No. the teleconverters work ONLY with the 50-140 and 100-400 lenses.

Q: 2. Which lens hood comes with this lens, since in the product photos there's a photo which shows the circular hood and one that shows a more rectangular hood?

A: The FUJIFILM XF 33mm f/1.4 R LM WR Lens comes with the circular FUJIFILM Lens Hood for XF 33mm f/1.4 R LM WR Lens (BH #FUHXF33).

Q: 3. Is this lens still made in Japan after Fujifilm moved their factory?

A: Yes, the following unit is made in Japan.

Q: 4. Can someone recommend a neoprene case that would fit this attached to an X-T3?

A: There are a few neoprene cases that will fit the X-t3 with the XF 23mm lens attached. This is some option, https://bhpho.to/41w66uF .

Q: 5. Recommend this lens or the 80 mm for youth sports? I was also considering the 55-200mm 3.5-4.8.

A: I'm leaning to agree with the former comments. I use the 90mm for its sharpness in landscape photography for compression and for close up subjects. Within sports use while the subjects are moving in and out, you would want the flexibility of zoom control, but as in so many cases in photography, if you had one lens and it were the 90mm f2 one could make it happen, but the loss percentage would probably go up.

Q: 6. Is this brand new?

A: This is a brand new, unopened product. All products purchased at B&H are brand new in the original factory box including packaging, all factory included accessories and factory warranty, unless otherwise stated to be USED, Refurbished or Demo.

Q: 7. Would this be a good travel lens? The older 1.4 was very light and compact.

A: The FUJIFILM XF 23mm f/1.4 R LM WR Lens will be an excellent travel lens as many photographers find the 35 mm (on a 35 mm) focal length ideal for travel. The lens offers exceptional details, sharpness, and weather sealing.

Q: 8. Help with selection. Voigtlander Nokton 23/1.4 or Fujifilm XF 23mm F/1.4 LM WR?

A: The Voigtlander Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Aspherical Lens for FUJIFILM X is a manual lens and the FUJIFILM XF 23mm f/1.4 R LM WR Lens supports autofocus. So most prefer a lens with autofocus and would go with the Fujifilm brand one.

Q: 9. What will be the filter thread mount?

A: The following lens adapt to all 58mm thread size filters.

Q: 10. Does this have manual focus like the first 23mm or is it auto only like the 90mm?

A: This lens doesn't have a manual focus clutch like the 23mm 1.4 mark I. It is focused electronically.

[58 mm (Front)] Magnífico lente, super rápido, quería actualizar mi antiguo 35mm f2, y definitivamente este nuevo 33mm fue la mejor opción, nítido de extremo a extremo, silencioso.
Recomiendo por completo este lente.

[APS-C] This lens is a great example of what to expect in the next generation of lenses from Fujifilm. It's not only fast in AF speed, it offers a distinctly different look than the 35mm f1.4 that we've grown to know and love. While that lens moves all the elements for focus to achieve a distinctive look, this moves a small group with a Linear Motor so the versatility in both stills and video are spot on.

This lens gives a lot more flexibility at wide open apertures with subject placement compared to the 35mm, since softness in the corners isn't really an issue. That being said, I still prefer the 35mm for gradual falloff from in focus to out of focus areas for a filmier type look, so one's not necessarily better than the other-each serves it's purpose.

Lastly, if you haven't seen the sun stars on this thing-I highly recommend it. Crisp, crisp, crisp without too much flare.

Just buy it already, it's been sitting in your cart for too long.

[FUJIFILM X] I'm a photography enthusiast enjoying nature/hiking, portrait, travel, cycling, and paddling. Converted from Nikon D300s and a bunch of lenses to Fuji X-T3 a few years ago. Switched because smaller, lighter, and the locations of controls. Controls that bring me back to my first Olympus OM1 SLR in 1979. Not a gear guy, but love manual controls.

Finding that I leave the 33mm f/1.4 on my camera the most. My main lens before was either the 18-55 f/2.8-4 that is a great lens with OIS for low light, and the 23mm f/2 WR also spent a lot of time on the camera because fo the WR and being outside. I prefer prime lenses, but don't like to carry a lot of gear.

The 33mm replaced my 23mm because of focal length preference and especially for portraits. Like it more than my 18-55 with the f/1.4 for better depth of field option and WR. Low light capability is great, but the zoom with OIS and higher ISO of XT3 less of a need. Reviewing my photos shot with my zoom in editing, I find that I use the 33mm focal length the most.

I'm not a pixel counter, but my pics using primes seem best to me.

Given I like to travel light, the weight of this lens was a concern I had compared to the Fuji 35mm f/1.4 option. The 33mm is not a heavy lens and found the size works great for me. The WR is important because I spend a lot of time outdoors in areas like the ADKs to the South West desert.

I still need my other focal lengths for composition; I can move my feet to get close when needed. For travel, I'll probably bring along my zoom and the 33mm and a 16mm f/2.8 WR. I love my 90mm f/2 if doing portraits or animals, but too heavy to just carry around. But looks like this 33mm will end on my camera most of the time for me.

[FUJIFILM X] I am mostly a video shooter and also own the 35mm 1.4, which I love, I was expecting this lens to have the same character/vibe/mojo as the 35, but it is a much 'cleaner' look, I don't know the technical way to describe this but it looks spectacular. I'll continue to use both, the silent LM autofocus in the 33 is much better for video AF.

[Autofocus] I upgraded from the beloved 35/1.4, which is still magical for its own right, but it's just not great for tracking AF for AF-C, like when people are walking towards you (ie. processional during a wedding ceremony). The weakness was not apparent on X-T3, but really noticeable on the much improved X-H2S. This 33/1.4 with the Linear Motor helps a ton! It's quick and quiet, and reliable. I will settle the bigger size and weight for the improvement (from 35/1.4) in AF.

[f/1.4] The most important thing I look for in a lens is: How close is its output to what I originally saw in the field. That's a lot to ask from a cylinder packed with shaped and polished glass. Since I am a photographer, I test my lenses by shooting people, various kinds of landscapes and various kinds of structures. During the processing phase, I can evaluate how close a lens comes to the ideal stated above. The Fujifilm 33 mm lens comes extremely close to this ideal. Its sharpness at f/1.4 is spectacular. The clarity of the image and the rendering of fine detail in the image is excellent. The color rendition looks natural and the chromatic aberration is almost non-existent so I don't have to spend any significant time removing color casts from my images. I use Capture One software to do all my exposure adjustments and then move the image over to Photoshop's Camera Raw for the finishing touches. I use Capture One because it's exposure adjustments tell me everything I need to know about the lens I used for the photograph and additionally how truly amazing Fujifilm's X-Trans Sensor is. The lens is only one piece of the equation because the sensor and its processor must be excellent, too. The good news is Fujifilm makes excellent lenses for its cameras and those of us who shoot Fujifilm cameras know the sensor and processor are first rate. The 33 mm lens will definitely show you just how good the Fujifilm sensor and processor are. The image quality is there to behold when the image is finally processed and with this 33mm lens, if you get your exposure right in the field, there is not a lot you will have to do when processing the image. If any of you out there who are reading this decide to buy this lens, you will not be disappointed.

[1.56 lb] I bought this lens for my XT-5 b/c it was on the list to be able to use the full 40MP sensor. I also have the Sigma 18-50 2.8 which I put on only when I cannot get back far enough like inside our condo. This 33mm lens might as well be permanently fixed to my XT-5. It is absolutely AMAZING. It can bring in a massive amount of light at 1.4 and the bokeh is absolutely stunning. Low light photography is a breeze with this thing. I have not shot it outdoors yet b/c I just got it in December and it's still cold and gloomy here in the Chicago area. As soon as it warms up and we start getting some sunny days, I will be putting this to work outdoors and I'm sure it will awe me all over again.

[f/1.4] Fuji really nailed it with this lens. Purchased it during a discount period where it was $100 of the retail price, well worth the money. Coming from the f2 version this lens beats in in every aspect except size, which I was concerned about but it's not too bad. Surprisingly it doesn't block the OVF on my X-pro 2. Aperture and focus ring feel perfectly dampened and the rendering and color are top notch.

[f/16] I disagree that there's such a thing as 'too much sharpness' and that it can mean 'lacks character' especially when we all rely on post production to add the 'feel' we want. This lens is superb.
