Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How is handholding this if it’s only being held while shooting (i.e. it spends most of the time in a bag/on a shoulder strap)?

A: The lens is much lighter than one would expect and the stabilization in it is phenomenal so hand holding shots is quite spectacular. Depending on the camera and how long you're shooting for it can get a bit heavy so I would recommend having a strap that slings from the body to the shoe of the lens for longer more comfortable shooting lengths.

A: Yes, the Kirk LP-72 Replacement Lens Foot for Nikon Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S, Nikon Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S, and Nikon Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S Lenses works with the Z 800 6.3 lens.

Q: 3. Will this stay on the lense when using a close fitting case like the Think Tank Digital Holster 30 V2?

A: The LensCoat Lens Cover for Nikon Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR Lens is made in the US.

[0.27 lb] When you pay $12,000 for a lens, you want to do all you can to protect it. LensCoat lens covers are the real deal. This is the third super telephoto lens I have covered with a LensCoat cover. All the pieces were cut to fit and the assembly process was quick and painless. Everything fit as it was intended. When you use a lens that is almost two feet long, it tends to get bumped from time to time. The LensCoat cover does an excellent job of protecting the lens from scratches and dings. I recently sold a lens that had been protected with a LensCoat cover. When the cover was removed, the lens looked like it did the day it was purchased. Besides protection, the LensCoat cover provides camouflage and a warm touch on cold days. I would not use a long telephoto without it.

[Camouflage] Exactly what I hoped it would be. Fits like a skin, thinking about buying another and cutting end so I can leave it on.

[Camouflage] I usually have a lens coat on my super-tele lenses, however I went with this and the XX Large hoodie instead for my new 500mm f4E VR FL. I got tired of the way the lens cost fit on the lens, you either have to remove pieces or deal with it. Lenscoats, especially the new ones cover up too much of the lens, such as function buttons, the five main switches, the drop-in filter holder, the manual focus ring. So I slowly started removing pieces until I had barely any left. So I decided to buy this instead and I really like it, it’s thicker and offers more protection than the regular lens coat. It’s on the lens when the lens is in the bag, either my thinktank Airport Accelerator or long lens bag. It’s easy to remove and put on and it protects the lens from getting banged up or scratched, etc. Once I bring the lens out of the bag and out of this, I put it directly onto my monopod or tripod and I’m careful. So far so good, my lens looks like new almost a year later and I’m no longer messing with the lens coat being in my way. For me this is the best option. Maybe someday they will make lenscoats for actually using your lens, but for now I’ll just use this to protect the lens when it’s not on top of my tripod.

[0.27 lb] Nikon supplies a very good case and lens cover. The travel coat is very well made and appears to be durable but again it is probably not required for my use with the Nikon furnished case and lens cover.

[0.27 lb] I decided to protect my new lens with a Lenscoat tree pattern cover. Well, if you have strong hands, installation would be easy. Hands with arthritis is another story. I did get it put on lens but it took some time. I left the last piece off as I often use the polarizing filter. All in all it serves a good purpose and looks pretty good out in the Everglades.
