The 39mm Kolari Vision UV Bandpass Lens Filter 39mmfrom Kolari Vision UV Bandpass Lens Filter 39mmis designed to work with a full-spectrum modified camera for true UV photography, skin damage analysis, forensic analysis, astrophotography, and other uses. Unlike many third-party UV filters that use interference coating, this one features absorption-based glass, doing away with the problem of inconsistent color across the frame.

The filter has a 50% transmission peak at 365nm, and >25% transmission in the 340-380nm range for high transmission. Average out of band rejection is >OD 4.3 (0.005%), with a minimum rejection of>3.5 OD (0.025%), so there is a high signal to noise ratio and no IR contamination. The filter is coated for durability. Due to the thickness of the glass, the filter is threaded on the rear side only.

This filter requires a full spectrum modification to be made to your camera in order to function properly. This entails manually removing the camera's low-pass filter and replacing it with a clear filter. Once that's done, the filter will work as intended. (Kolari Vision can make the modification for you at a cost if you send in your camera to them.)

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What country is this lens made in?

A: South Korea

Q: 2. Can this lens do manual focus and all all the other focus modes on the a6000?

A: Yes, it does.

Q: 3. Will this lens fit/work well on the Fuji EX2S camera?

A: Yes it does. And like all the fujifulm lense, is very sharp. If wish it was a bit smaller though - a real pancake style lens. The 27 is the only one they make that is that small, and it's terrific. Makes the camera pocketable - in a big pocket of course.

Q: 4. Does this work with a Sony SLTa33?

A: I'm not familiar with the a33 camera but if it's along the lines of the other SLT cameras (i.e., a55, a57, a65, etc) then no this lens will NOT work as you will need to use an A-mount lens. I know the E-mount lenses work primarily with the Sony NEX series of cameras but I am not sure what other cameras it could work on beyond those. Good luck!

Q: 5. If this lens manual and autofocus?

A: the lens itself has NO manual-autofocus switch, but it can be use in each way from the camera control

Q: 6. This works for a7sii?

A: If this camera has a crop sensor mode, the lens would work. However, because it is designed for APS-C sensor size, the image captured would not fill the sensor size on the a7sii. Would be better off with a lens designed for the Sony FE mount.

Q: 7. Would this lens work to take children's indoor sports shots? Would it fit on a Fuji S8500?

A: The focal length will be too short for kids indoor sports. My favorite lens for that use is the Fuji 90mm f2. The focal length is great and the bright aperture works indoors without a flash.

Q: 8. Is the lens body metal or plastic?

A: Hi Dennis, This lens is made of light-weight metal. -Anthony

Q: 9. Is it compatible with the Sony A7IV?

A: The Kolari Vision Clear Quartz Dust Protective Magnetic Clip-In Filter for Sony E-Mount Full-Frame Cameras is compatible with the Sony a7 IV.

Q: 10. Does this fit Leica E39 lens?

A: Yes this will fit on a Leica E39 Lens.

[0.3 lb] Works great on full spectrum cameras. Lets you get into the deep infrared on 720nm or higher converted cameras.

[Glass] I have only tested this filter on my Lifepixel-modified Canon R6 (v1), but I like it already. It produces some really interesting color combinations that my other Lifepixel IR filters do not. Samples below are with custom white balance in-camera.

[Glass] Shoot aerochrome with you converted full spectrum digital camera. Works like a charm, just set your white balance and trees turn red but keeps the sky blue. No need to sit in front of your computer to swap channels.
Ensure that your lenses do not create hotspots. Some lenses can create spots in the centre of images.

[UV] This is not a filter to have just for fun. First of all it requires you to have a Full spectrum conversion on your camera. Second of all it is for a very specific use and its price is no joke, so if you don't need it I would spend my money on something else I would use more. But in my case it's been a blast. I will use a lot more my converted camera now that I have it, and just getting started with experimenting out of the users manual I have a lot of ideas to work on with this filter.
The filter only lets through UV light so exposure compensation is required and even under bright sun you will more than likely shoot on a tripod, with high ISO using slow shutter speeds. This filter is a tool, not a toy.

[Multi Coated] OK if you are not sure if you will use it don't buy it. But if you have a full spectrum camera, this is one of your filters in your IR, UV filter set. Color IR is not for every one but it can be a blast if you find a way to understand what this filter can do for you.

[Aluminum] I've been using the Kolari Vision IR Chrome Lens Filter on my IR full spectrum modified Sony a7iii with the 24mm G-Master lens. In order to achieve the vibrant red foliage colors with realistic blue skies and other colors, it is critical to have the correct custom white balance. At least with the Sony this required some experimentation as the usual gray card setting makes green foliage more orange than red (see photo), and this is very hard to correct in Lightroom. With my Sony, getting vibrant red foliage pushed the hues of other colors off a bit. Your experience may differ as I'm betting it's a function of the color algorithms in the specific camera being used. I did find that desaturating all color channels except blue can be any easy way to get b&w IR images with nice blue skies (see photo). Like all filters, plan to play with it a while to see how it affects your images under various circumstances.

[Glass] After long ago exploring IR images with Kodak chemical films, I purchased the Kolari K665Pro and K720Pro to use on a stock Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and Canon lenses. I chose the Kolari Pro series for their sharp cutoff spectra as well as their filter coatings compared to Kolari's base series or Hoya. The Kolari Pro quality / performance / price point trade-offs were great IMHO. Starting with the 665, I set the camera for manual exposure (typically bracketing around +2) and manual focus (typically longer focus settings), and the stock sensors pick up enough red for good composition and control. It has been a short learning curve and I am most pleased with the images that the Kolari filters are generating: awesome black and white landscapes, cloudscapes, and waterscapes, and excellent starting points for post-processed color shots (native red hue or channel swapped)! No discernible color aberration until I push the image magnification to its pixel limits. The coatings have been great with tough lighting angles - no flares - and stay remarkably clean in windy, dusty environments! Continuing experiments with the 720, which pushes the limits of the stock sensors but still works well. Highly recommend the Kolari 665Pro for anyone getting into IR!!!

[0.3 lb] I recently ordered this to have more options when shooting with a full-spectrum converted camera. It's great to be able to do false colour infrared without needing to use channel mixing in post production. It also opens up a wider range of treatments in the resulting files. I think it's my new favourite IR look.

[Aluminum] After long ago exploring IR images with Kodak chemical films, I purchased the Kolari K665Pro and K720Pro to use on a stock Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and Canon lenses. I chose the Kolari Pro Gen series for their sharp cutoff spectra as well as their filter coatings compared to Kolari's base series or Hoya. The Kolari Pro quality / performance / price point trade-offs were great IMHO.

I posted a review of the 665 and can not say enough positives about it!!! 5 stars!!!

Still experimenting with the 720. It is slightly more technically challanging on a stock camera, but just as impressive as the 665 so far. Highly recommend the Kolari Pro Gen series for anyone getting into IR!!!
