Compact, rugged, and efficient, the MX401 Four-Channel Stereo Mixer from Rolls is a deceptively flexible analog audio mixer designed to make mobile sound setups and field recording hassle-free. The unit features four channels of XLR audio input and balanced stereo XLR outputs, with all XLR I/O featuring individual mic/line level selection. The MX401 also sports level control for each input channel, master gain control, an extra 3.5mm stereo output for headphones or as an aux send, and 15V of phantom power selectable for each input. Crucially, the MX401 can not only run off of the included 15 VDC power supply, but also on two common 9V alkaline batteries for completely mobile, outlet-free operation.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have a roku, fire box, and a cable box rca audio to a reciever. I have what I think is the same. I have to get up and manually change sources. Will this do what I want automatically. Also there is sound comming out of these things most of the time, is that a problem?

A: Yes, it will combine all four sources into one output. I use it to combine multiple karaoke units and wireless microphones so it would be one source on receiver. It isn't powered so doesn't matter if it has audio sending to it all the time. If you have two sources going at the same time though, you will hear both. It does not automatically switch, it just combines. So this probably won't be what you want. You will have to change sources anyway to switch the video input between devices. I would get a new receiver that has an app for remote control.

Q: 2. Why are there two outputs for the mono? Do you still hook up to your subwoofer with a single sub cable on either of the two mono outputs?

A: On the Rolls SX45 - 2-Way Stereo Crossover. One is for the crossover for the speaker highs to lows. The other is a separate mono out to a sub.

Q: 3. What is the recommended ohm headphone to use?

A: The HeadAmp4 is powerful enough to support most consumer and pro headphones which typically range from 32 to 600 ohms.

Q: 4. Does this work over seas

A: The included 12 VDC supply is 120 VAC 60 Hz only. It is not compatible with most electrical systems outside North America.

Q: 5. If I input a 3.5mm mic will that get phantom power, and if so, how much, or is it just through the XLR connections?

A: Phantom power is provided through an XLR connection only. Mics that require power with a 3.5mm jack usually require plug in power which is approximately 2 - 5 volts. The MX310 is not able to provide this power.

Q: 6. I'm looking for blend a piezo pickup and condenser mic both mounted on double bass. Does this will works?

A: It might. Give it a try. It is a returnable item.

Q: 7. Can this be used in car audio for multiple subwoofer amps .all aready the same wattage

A: This is not the right device for what your likely trying to accomplish. In car audio your generally trying to split or repeat the same signal. This is designed to take signals from multiple sources and send to a single output. Although not recommended, you could achieve the same results using an RCA Y-adapter.If your that serious about car audio you should be using a electronic crossover with multiple outputs or high-end deck that supports multiple RCA pairs.

Q: 8. do you need power for the mixer to work?

A: Yes it comes with a power supply.

Q: 9. Can this be used to control volumens and outputs to different zones like attenuators such as the AT 100D? And if so, in what other ways would make it better?

A: Thank you for your question. This unit has four stereo rca inputs with separate zone selector switches for each of the 4 zones. you can control the input and output volume from each channel and zone.

Q: 10. 2 Qs: 1) Does this add any coloration to the signal; 2) will this work passively while it is powered down? One of the mics I'd be running through it is a Warm WA 47, which doesn't need the phantom power. I want to be sure that I can either go through the powered-up Rolls without it affecting the signal, or turn the Rolls off and just pass through it in passive mode. Sorry for the complicated and poorly phrased question!

A: The Rolls MX310 MorMics 3-Channel Mic Mixer/Combiner requires a power supply to function and is not passive. It does not specify any features that would color the signal specifically, however most electronic circuitry will typically influence the audio signal in some manner, typically minimally.

[4] Have 10 of these installed in motorsport vehicles, high heat and dust and they perform well. Very clean audio

[4 (4 Mono)] It works, and with no noise, which is very important for me. Those knobs/pots are also smooth and noiseless. The only down for me is that it came with universal 15V adapter (120V-240V) with kinda short cable, check the polarity of the plug if you wanna replace it since most adapter plug have reversed plus minus.

My setup:
1. PC - Usb cable - Grace SDAC - male RCA to male RCA cable - Rolls MX51s Ch 4
2. Laptop/Tablet/Phone etc - 1/8 TRS to male RCA - Rolls MX51s Ch 2
3. Rolls MX51s output - male RCA to male RCA - Cavalli Liquid Carbon X (SE Input) - 1/4 TRS AKG K550 (front SE output)
4. Cavalli Liquid Carbon X (SE Pass) - male RCA to male RCA - Swan M10 Speaker

[+14 dB ] I used the mixer in my DJ rig to integrate different gear, with the ability to use the Numark NS6 to control it all. Glad I found the device.

[-14 dB ] We are using this mixer to switch between a crowd microphone for singing in our church with the main output which comes to us from RCA in the sound board. The box is steel and very rugged. Knobs are easy to control. Solid equipment. Only problem I had was moving the little switch for the phantom power. The tiny piece of plastic ended up going inside the container and I had to remove the case to get it back.

[Up to +55 dB ] Bought this to mix audio sources (CD etc.) with my Akai MPK mini play keyboard audio out. Works great. I enjoy playing along with music. Very quiet and no distortion. Covered the bright power LED with tape.

[Stereo Main Mix] Great little mixer that works exactly as expected. Used it for a couple of weeks now for combining sound sources into headphones. The sound is great! No issues whatsoever.

If I were in charge of all decision making for Rolls I would also make a version of this where the inputs are 3.5mm stereo. That would simplify my setup by reducing the number of adapters required.

[2.97 lb] I use this at work where I have a couple computers and I want to be able to mix the sound for headphones. It works well for this (sound quality is good) but I have a fair number of adapters, since this has mostly RCA inputs and computers have mostly 6.25 connectors.
