The 82mm, 1/4-density Tiffen Antique Satin Filter 82mm 1/4 Densityfrom Tiffen Antique Satin Filter 82mm 1/4 Densitysmooths fine details such as pores on the skin while maintaining overall sharpness, without reducing contrast. It prevents highlights from blowing out and shadows from losing detail or becoming overly cool and muddy-looking, all while adding an overall warm glow. Ideal for dark complexions, this warm diffusion filter allows for a complete array of tones and full dynamic range.

The filter features glass optics and an aluminum ring threaded on both sides. It's made using the ColorCore process, which laminates the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass, and then grinds and polishes them to a precise tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch of flatness.

[Aluminum] I have many filters that I've collected over the last few years.
This one is just fantastic. I double it up with the Tiffen Smoque 1 and it's probably my favorite combo. Instead of describing what my eyes see, I'll post a couple of screenshots for you to see for yourself. I also bought recently the 1/2 version, which I Iike even more.

[Glass] Black Satin is a great filter that beautifully performs as advertised. I have as well Tiffen Glimmerglass and Black Pro-Mist. Each has its purposes and consistently enhances the look I'm going for in my photography. Love them all.

[Aluminum] Not too much blooming, and just enough fuzziness to make a digital image more organic.

[Glass] First off, B and H came through quickly and accurately as always. I needed some versatility in ND filters and this kit provided me with the flexibility and quality I was looking for. First time out after receiving them I utilized two of the three to address specific issues and got the results I was looking for. If there was any drawback in their performance, it was on the photographers part. The quality is top tier with the HT line from Tiffen in terms of construction and glass. The actual kit itself was convenient to carry myself as I moved around without having to drag all my gear from spot to spot to have access to the filters as I figured out the right combinations. Looking forward to using them again soon and in the long term. Ideal for the advanced hobby/landscape photographer who is willing to spend a little bit more to get quality in their bag.

[Glass] very good! No excessive halo, soft and the subject remains high contrast! It's just that the express delivery to China is a bit slow, and I waited for a long time....

[Aluminum] Great All-Rounder filter, this one doesn't leave my lens unless otherwise!

[Aluminum] This is my second Satin 2 filter in a bigger size. This filter is great because it is very subtle, but just enough of an effect to take the digital look off of video. It smooths skin slightly and softens hard edges, lifts shadows for a slight reduction in contrast (which helps cameras with low dynamic range) and highlights bloom slightly so you don't get that obvious point where highlights blowout. The halation doesn't take on a warm tone like the black pro mist does, which I think helps keep it a subtle effect.Overall, the effect might be compared to the look of older lenses or a more filmic vibe.

I bought it to use with the iPhone 13 Pro, which has great video, but is too sharp and clean for me. It works with the telephoto lens and wide, but with the ultra wide lens you can see the lens in the reflection of the filter and the little diffusion beads they apply to the filter. Unfortunate, but that lens was designed for macro too.

[82 mm] Great filter, creates softer skin texture and nice halation around lights.

[Glass] This filter does exactly what I wanted: Take the hard digital look out of my videos, lowers contrast ever so slightly, and gives a little glow around highlights. I’m using it in front of a Moondog Labs anamorphic lens on an iPhone SE (2020) which has a 4K sensor. Aside from the crumby dynamic range it is hard to believe the footage came from a cell phone.
