The Kolari Vision KV-FL1 Multispectral Flash IR UV Filtersfrom Kolari Vision KV-FL1 Multispectral Flash IR UV Filtersis for illuminating your subjects in indoor IR/UV applications, when you use IR or UV filters with a full-spectrum modified camera. The flash unit comes with IR (850nm) and UV flash filters, also referred to as flash cups, which attach to the flash head. When you use the IR flash cup for IR applications, it will make the flash only barely visible to the human eye even on the highest power settings. The UV flash cup reduces the flash to a softer, purple glow.

This speedlight style flash features a standard hot shoe for use on- or off-camera. Clamp-mount focus assist flashlights are included to help with focusing and composing your shot. These flashlights will light your scene in the spectrum that you need, allowing you to see what you're going to get before the flash goes off. This lets you eliminate trial and error. The flashlights attach to the flash via quick release clamp-mounts, allowing for quick and easy swaps for IR and UV applications.

The flash unit runs on four AA batteries. The focus assist flashlights are each powered by a single AA battery. Only two AA batteries are included (one for each flashlight).

[Manual] This is not a filter to have just for fun. First of all it requires you to have a Full spectrum conversion on your camera. Second of all it is for a very specific use and its price is no joke, so if you don't need it I would spend my money on something else I would use more. But in my case it's been a blast. I will use a lot more my converted camera now that I have it, and just getting started with experimenting out of the users manual I have a lot of ideas to work on with this filter.
The filter only lets through UV light so exposure compensation is required and even under bright sun you will more than likely shoot on a tripod, with high ISO using slow shutter speeds. This filter is a tool, not a toy.

[18 to 180 mm] Picked this up for use on my Canon R5C and I'm very impressed with the overall build quality. This is my first product by Kolari, but they have been on my radar for years with the Infrared conversions and magnetic filters they make. Happy to say this adapter and drop-in filters are very well built. The auto-focus features and communication with lens to camera has so far been perfect with my Sigma EF lenses, so I'm very pleased with that. The filters themselves are super clean and do not appear to have any color shifts or aberrations. And best of all, the control wheel for the VND is actually the right amount of resistance! Doesn't budge if you bump it (like the Canon brand one), but smoothly spins when you need to adjust it. At this price point, I'd recommend this kit over the Canon OEM alternative all day.

[180°] I recently ordered this to have more options when shooting with a full-spectrum converted camera. It's great to be able to do false colour infrared without needing to use channel mixing in post production. It also opens up a wider range of treatments in the resulting files. I think it's my new favourite IR look.

[Manual] I've been using the Kolari Vision IR Chrome Lens Filter on my IR full spectrum modified Sony a7iii with the 24mm G-Master lens. In order to achieve the vibrant red foliage colors with realistic blue skies and other colors, it is critical to have the correct custom white balance. At least with the Sony this required some experimentation as the usual gray card setting makes green foliage more orange than red (see photo), and this is very hard to correct in Lightroom. With my Sony, getting vibrant red foliage pushed the hues of other colors off a bit. Your experience may differ as I'm betting it's a function of the color algorithms in the specific camera being used. I did find that desaturating all color channels except blue can be any easy way to get b&w IR images with nice blue skies (see photo). Like all filters, plan to play with it a while to see how it affects your images under various circumstances.

[Shoe] Shoot aerochrome with you converted full spectrum digital camera. Works like a charm, just set your white balance and trees turn red but keeps the sky blue. No need to sit in front of your computer to swap channels.
Ensure that your lenses do not create hotspots. Some lenses can create spots in the centre of images.

[-7 to +90°] This filter case is made well and the magnetic latch is secure. I have not tried a drop test but I see no need to.

[180°] I have only tested this filter on my Lifepixel-modified Canon R6 (v1), but I like it already. It produces some really interesting color combinations that my other Lifepixel IR filters do not. Samples below are with custom white balance in-camera.

[Manual] Filter really makes a bold difference in astro imaging. Noting that the lens sun hood doesn't fit over the knurled edge of the filter. I can live with it since a sun hood is rarely needed at night... if I were to use this filter for artistic reasons during the day I might have another thought
