The 6.6 x 6.6", grade 1/4 diffusion Tiffen Antique Satin Filter 6.6x6.6 Grade 1/4 Diffusionfrom Tiffen Antique Satin Filter 6.6x6.6 Grade 1/4 Diffusionsmooths fine details such as pores on the skin while maintaining overall sharpness, without reducing contrast. It prevents highlights from blowing out and shadows from losing detail or becoming overly cool and muddy-looking, all while adding an overall warm glow. Ideal for dark complexions, this warm diffusion filter allows for a complete array of tones and full dynamic range.

The filter features water white glass and is made using the ColorCore process, which laminates the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass, and then grinds and polishes them to a precise tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch of flatness.

[Glass] I used on a white kitchen with a lot of natural light, and it's really blooms the highlights nicely in that context.

[Glass] Great All-Rounder filter, this one doesn't leave my lens unless otherwise!

[Glass] I bought the filter for two specific shoots. Both went well and I have no complaints. I used the filter on my 77mm Canon 17-40mm L for shoots early morning and late evening in the Fall Colors and the results were fantastic. Would recommend to others. Didn't find anything I didn't like.

[Glass] Most photographers use at least one diffusion filter for portraits, whether a professional whose clients need to look great, or the rest of us who want to flatter Granny at her 90th birthday celebration party. I have kids with iffy complexions in their adolescence and didn’t want to rely too heavily on Photoshop for the fix.

For use on my Quattro DP2, this filter does a fine job of holding small details like eyelashes, yet blends blemishes well. (One caveat: a large blackhead or dark pimple may be accentuated, depending on circumstances, so a white diffusion filter or dab of concealer could be needed.) Since the eyes and lashes/eyebrows hold their detail portraits can be very flattering with this Tiffen product.

It looks odd by itself as it appears to be glass with a pattern of little black marks all over it, where I more or less expected some type of black screen or grid. Not being an optical engineer and as well as the filter works, I chalk it up to FM.

Also, I prefer to use Tiffen products in general as they have always be good quality, competitively priced, and made in the good ol’ U. S. of A.; what’s not to like?

[Glass] This filter does exactly what I wanted: Take the hard digital look out of my videos, lowers contrast ever so slightly, and gives a little glow around highlights. I’m using it in front of a Moondog Labs anamorphic lens on an iPhone SE (2020) which has a 4K sensor. Aside from the crumby dynamic range it is hard to believe the footage came from a cell phone.

[Glass] I got the 1/4 filter and it is just the right amount of diffusion without being noticeable. The Black Satin diffuses the image without sacrificing the contrast and milking the image out. So just the right amount to take the edge off of modern cinema cameras.

[Glass] I own two of these for two camera shoots. They produce a nice subtle softening for skin and reduction in overall contrast. Not too much, just enough to take the edge of digital cinema cameras.

[Glass] Not too much blooming, and just enough fuzziness to make a digital image more organic.

[Glass] This is my second Satin 2 filter in a bigger size. This filter is great because it is very subtle, but just enough of an effect to take the digital look off of video. It smooths skin slightly and softens hard edges, lifts shadows for a slight reduction in contrast (which helps cameras with low dynamic range) and highlights bloom slightly so you don't get that obvious point where highlights blowout. The halation doesn't take on a warm tone like the black pro mist does, which I think helps keep it a subtle effect.Overall, the effect might be compared to the look of older lenses or a more filmic vibe.

I bought it to use with the iPhone 13 Pro, which has great video, but is too sharp and clean for me. It works with the telephoto lens and wide, but with the ultra wide lens you can see the lens in the reflection of the filter and the little diffusion beads they apply to the filter. Unfortunate, but that lens was designed for macro too.
