The beige Sennheiser MKE 2 Gold with TA4F Connector is a tough, subminiature lavalier microphone renowned for its dependable performance among industry professionals, including broadcast and field audio engineers, theater performers, presenters, and film/video crews. The mic’s dual-diaphragm design resists sweat and moisture, while the tiny size offers a discreet appearance that’s easy to conceal—even resisting contact and rustling noise when hidden in clothing and costumes.

With its wide 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range and reduced sensitivity capable to handle up to 142 dB SPL, the MKE 2 lav provides clear, intelligible reproduction of loud vocals and instruments in broadcast and theater applications. The microphone's omnidirectional polar pattern picks up sound from 360° around the capsule, helping to deliver consistent levels, even when the talent turns away from the mic capsule.

The MKE 2 is available with a variety of connectors to accommodate wireless transmitters and other compatible equipment. This model features a TA4F connector wired for Shure wireless transmitters. Two frequency caps are supplied, allowing you to tailor the high-end frequency response, depending on the application. Also included is an MZQ 22 Double Tie Clip.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can this be used as a wired lav for a dslr (with a long adapter cable)?

A: Anything is possible, but not recommended in this case. I think most DSLR audio inputs are at line level and not mic level. It's really meant for plugging into a wireless unit (which you would then plug into your DSLR).

Q: 2. Will this go into the Deity Theos?

A: No, the Sennheiser MKE 2 Gold Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone is not compatible for use with the transmitter for the Deity Theos Digital 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System. The mic requires 7.5V of plug-in power and the transmitter can only supply 3 to 5V.

Q: 3. I have to of these one has a little blue tag at the bottom just beside the mini jack, the other doesn't have a blue tag is there a difference? The one that doesnt have the blue tag is doing a very disturbing humming, can you tell me something about that?

A: Sennheiser changed the cabling last year. The new blue indicator is now wired RED center, BLUE ring and NO Shield. The shield wire is now wired to the BLUE side in the capsule. Do not wire the shield.

Q: 4. Can this be plugged directly into a Zoom H1?

A: No, it will not connect properly to the H1.

Q: 5. Can I use these mics with Sony UWP-D 21 wireless packs if I get a small adpater ( to go from the 3,5 mm locking connection to the different one on the Sony's body packs) ?

A: No, you will not be able to use the Sennheiser MKE 40 with a Sony UWP transmitter. The internal wiring for Sennheiser and Sony mics is different and they are not compatible or interchangeable. Alternatively, you are also not able to use mics wired for Sony transmitters with Sennheiser transmitters. This is not something that can be fixed with an adapter. You would need to rewire the mic which will void the manufacturer's warranty on a new item. Please feel free to contact us for assistance in selecting a compatible mic.

Q: 6. Can I use it with the Rode Video Micro?

A: Unfortunately or fortunately not. That is made for a MKE 600 a full size shotgun. Also it won't be any better than what the Micro comes with. The Micro comes in a good lyre shock mount that is made just for that mic. Just use the mic as is. It's a great little mic and Rode made sure it has a quality shock mount.

Q: 7. Why does the black version look different than the beige one? I've bought the black one before and it looks different. Is it the same mic? wrong image?

A: The actual microphones are the same, but the photo that shows the cable with strain relieve just below the mic seems to be an older version.

Q: 8. Is this compatible with the XS series of Sennheiser body packs?

A: Unfortunately the Sennheiser MKE 40 is not compatible with the XS series. Only the SK 100, SK 300, and SK 500 Evolution Wireless Series bodypack transmitters.

Q: 9. Is the mke2 compatible with sennheiser ew 100 g2 ?

A: Yes it is.

Q: 10. Can this be paired with a Tentacle Sync Track E?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser MKE 2 Gold Series Lavalier Microphone is compatible for use with the Tentacle Sync TRACK E Pocket Audio Recorder.

[Plug-In Power] After foolishly trying several less expensive brands I finally did the right thing and bought the Sennheiser MKE 2. This made a huge difference - the audio signal quality was what I needed all along. And the build quality of the mic, it's cable and XLR connector are outstanding. Worth every dime.

[Beige] Beautiful full rich sound, while remaining very stable outdoors and getting very little background noise. Didn't realize it came with a hard case, that was an added bonus! We are extremely pleased with the mic's performance.

[Omnidirectional] I've used it a couple times in the field now, paired with a sennheiser mkh 416 and the mkh 8050. With a bit of EQ to correct for the difference in the high-end, it pairs well enough to not be crazy noticeable when you need to switch back and forth between lav/boom in post (except to discerning audio pros of course).

Coming from the ME2 that comes stock with G4s, the size of the MKE 2 is much better for hiding. Definitely worth the upgrade.

[Omnidirectional] The mic that came with my AVX kit was damaged and I was needing a replacement. This one works perfectly and fit the bill.

[7.5 V] We had a shoot where I had two of these and one of lesser quality. The tonality of these high-end Lavs are incredible: I ordered two more.

[Plug-In Power] Third one I bought. Sounds way better than what comes with the G3 kits - unless it's the gold G3 kit ;)

[Beige] In response to another post, the MKE 2 Digital works fine with other (better) apps, such as Twisted Wave.
