The 72mm Tiffen Glimmerglass Filter 72mm Grade 1/4from Tiffen Glimmerglass Filter 72mm Grade 1/4is a beauty filter whose function is two-fold: in addition to modifying the appearance of the image itself, it also features a sparkling appearance when viewed from the front, instilling more confidence in the model. The filter itself helps soften skin details, blemishes, and wrinkles. It also produces glowing highlights and a mild reduction in contrast for a more ethereal appearance. The grade 1/4 diffusion provides a close to minimal amount of softening and overall image alteration.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting it onto precision metal rings.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the outer diameter of the filter? 80mm?

A: Measured with a caliper, the Tiffen UV 77mm is 80.14mm in front diameter.

Q: 2. When a polarizing filter is in the neutral position, does it still weaken light? And can it be used as a lens protection filter as the UV filter?

A: Most Circular Polarizers cause about a 1.5-2.5 stop of light loss when on your lens depending on where the filter has been rotated to. Circular Polarizers are not designed as protection filters but they can protect the front element of your lens like any other filter.

Q: 3. Is this cause vignetting with wide-angle lenses?

A: Depending on the focal length of your lens, this filter may cause vignette. You may want to look into a wide angle circular polarizer, such as the Tiffen 62mm Circular Polarizing Wide Angle (Low Profile Design) Filter: http://bhpho.to/1qbv3r0

Q: 4. Can I use this protection lens on Canon cine prime 24mm?I need 105 or 114 for the Canon lens ?

A: This filter will fit any lens with a 105mm coarse filter thread.

Q: 5. Does the Tiffen 62UVP affect the color and/or current Picture Profile settings?

A: No, it does not. The Tiffen 62mm UV Protector Filter, B&H # TIUVP62, only has an affect on ultraviolet (UV) light. It is a clear filter that has no affect to the image. As indicated under the Specs tab on our website, the filter has a 1 (+0-Stop) filter factor, so it has no affect to the image and does not affect Picture Profile settings.

Q: 6. will this work withh GF63mmF2.8 R lens?

A: No, this lens takes a 62mm filter.

Q: 7. Hu guys, I'm after a UV filter for a Canon 16-35 f2.8 II. I think I've narrowed down my choices to: (a) Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital FilterB&H # HOUVH82 ? Mfr # XHD82UV(b) Hoya 82mm HD2 UV Filter B&H # HOUVH282 ? Mfr # XHD2-82UVI'm just wondering what the main difference are between the two.Is it just a case of the HD2 being thinner? Is the Haze on the first one a reference to a colour/effect? Thanks for your help.

A: The Hoya HD and HD2 filters are the same except for their respective warranties. The HD filters has a one year warranty and the HD2 have a limited lifetime warranty. The Haze feature on the HD model is to reduce the hazy effect on a bright, sunny day.

Q: 8. Does this filter fit a Sony FE 24-70 2.8 GM 2 lens (without touching the lens)?

A: Yes, this will work with the Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II.

Q: 9. Is this an ND filter?

A: The Fujifilm 49mm Protector Filter is not a ND filter. This filter is clear and is meant only to protect the lens from dust and physical damage.

Q: 10. Will this fit on a Olympus Tough TG-6 Digital Camera with the conversion lens adapter?

A: Yes, the Tiffen 40.5mm Circular Polarizing Filter will fit on the Olympus TG-6 when with the use of Olympus CLA-T01 Conversion Lens Adapter.

[0.165 lb] Use glimmer glass regularly to get halation from light sources/specular highlights.

[Glass] Tiffen Filters are always the best when it comes to build quality, reliability and options they provide. I am super happy with my 2 Set of Glimmerglass!!:) They make the image naturally gloomy without washing out the entire scene.

Also B&H did a perfect job on shipping and customer contact! I live in Germany and my package arrived only 4 days after my order was placed. Thanks, you guts are the best!

[0.165 lb] Any time I decide on diffusion filters, the biggest considerations for me are the strength of halation and the amount of contrast I'm looking for. I usually default to Hollywood Black Magic as my standard diffusion filter. When I want something stronger and a big more vintage feeling I'll reach for Black Pro Mist. When I want something much more subtle, I'll go for Glimmerglass because the halation is under much better control than the other two. I usually aim for a 1 strength when I want to see the effect. Even then, it doesn't feel too strong.

[72 mm] Lots of reviews suggest the 1/8 for a more 'filmic look but I found that I needed the 1/4 strength to get that effect.

Note that focal length and the quality of the light itself will impact the outcome.

A note regarding the GG1: This provides a very noticeable effect in most cases. Maybe a tad too much for everyday use.

Tiffen needs a magical filter that works on the jpeg but leaves the raw alone !

[Aluminum] Great diffusion filter that adds soft contrast to take off the digital edge while retaining sharpness. Would highly recommend over other diffusion filters.

[Glass] Works well so far, and is less obscene than even 1/4 black pro mist can be. And price is fair. Now why do these filters cost 500% more in rectangular shape?

[0.165 lb] I was looking for a filter that would bloom the highlights and practical light sources without decreasing the overall contrast of the image, and I think this was just the filter I wanted. Compared to Black Pro Mist and especially Cinebloom, the shadow levels and sharpness are maintained with this filter. The diffusion is just enough for me. To me, it seems it blooms the highlights and light sources just enough to look like my image was shot on film, but without being too dramatic or noticeable. I think if I were going for a more dreamy look, I'd go with a higher Glimmerglass strength or use something like Cinebloom.
