The 77mm, 1/8-density Tiffen Antique Pearlescent Filter 77mm 1/8 Densityfrom Tiffen Antique Pearlescent Filter 77mm 1/8 Densitycreates a soft, pleasing atmospheric glow, along with a mild desaturation of colors and gentle creamy halation. This makes it ideal for period pieces or to create the look of a warm summer afternoon.

The filter features glass optics and an aluminum ring threaded on both sides. It's made using the ColorCore process, which laminates the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass, and then grinds and polishes them to a precise tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch of flatness.

[77 mm] I'm definitely going to be using this for a lot of filming. Real great effect on skin tones, and it gives a nice pink value if used outside and if you set your color temperature a little under the norm. Good construction that you've come to expect from Tiffen. I'll probably buy the rectangular version of this filter, if they've got one.

[Glass] It’s very subtle even if it’s strenght 2. The skin is smoohter but innsharp focus. The lower lights get around 1/3rd of a stop brighter, while the brighter lights get some 1/3rd of a stop darker. Thus the contrast is subtly reduced, making the lighting look more filtered. The filter doesn’t like direct light pointed towards the camera, so use a matebox and position the camera accordingly. I like to combine with Black Satin 1 for lowering the highlights even more.

[77 mm] This filter is going to be on every portrait shot I take from now on. The 1/8 strength is subtle enough to clean blemishes of a 4K or 8MP+ image while not making the image look soft. There are however some conditions where it's not ideal. I filmed a window on a sunny day from a dark room, and the halo effect spilling into the room was too strong and unnatural looking even though this filter's strength is only 1/8. If done under the right conditions, it could give a nice stylized look.

[77 mm] Love this filter to bring up the shadows and make the highlights glow. Don’t think that “1” is too strong.

[Aluminum] Unlike other star filters that provide a uniform more sterile look, this filter provides a softer more natural burst and because the bursts are not parallel, each one varies a bit in intensity. There are times when it also adds an almost prism like effect where it extracts colors from a white light. Sometimes that's good, other times not so much, but the unique look provided is quite pleasant and for the right situation, can't be beat.
