Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. When should you turn off us

A: You can turn off IS when shooting on a tripod or other rigid support but it is not required.

Q: 2. Hi. Is this lens 100% compatible with 7d mark ii?

A: Yes this lens is 100% compatible with the 7d Mark II.

Q: 3. Is this basically the EF version with an RF mount attached or is it totally a new lens with new optics, focusing motors, etc?

A: The Canon RF 400mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens, and the Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III USM Lens has the same optical design.

Q: 4. What is the wisest aperture at 400mm? Basically does this open up to f/2.8 at 400mm?

A: Yes. This is a prime lens (400mm only) and it opens up to f/2.8

Q: 5. When do you turn off the stabiliser

A: Is recommended to turn the lens image stabilization when your camera and lens are mounted on a steady tripod or a video gimbal.

Q: 6. Sorry I have another question. I am really considering buying this wrap. But it is costly! Do you really feel it gets you closer to birds if you are also wearing camo clothes and hat? What if you are not wearing camo clothes, then does it even matter? Thank you.

A: I would say that it can, provided you are stealthy in other ways as well (no sudden movements, camo clothes). Breaking up the head profile is important, because birds get most nervous when they perceive they are being looked at. But it won't fool birds all the time, and there are limits. The wrap also protects your lens from scratches, so you could look at it as an investment, if you ever want to sell your lens one day.

Q: 7. Will this allow me to use the Tamron lens collar with my lens? Or will it block it?

A: The LensCoat for the Tamron 50-400mm lens is designed for use without the lens collar, You can use the collar but would need to remove part of the LensCoat to accommodate this.

Q: 8. When dont I need to use the stabiliser

A: You will need a sitch image stabilization On in your Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III USM Lens when you are hand-holding your camera and lens or using a monopod during panning with photos and videos.

Q: 9. Does this fit the latest Nikon 400mm f/2.8E FL ED VR Lens ?

A: yes

Q: 10. How does this lens perform (effect on IQ) with the 1.4 and 2 TCs?

A: When using the Canon RF 400mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens wide open with the Canon Extender RF 1.4x, image sharpness is decreased modestly in the center in the center of the frame, but corners are nearly unaffected. Stopping down one stop brings a nice improvement and impressive sharpness across the frame. The RF 1.4x adds a slight barrel distortion but notably does not affect lateral CA. The results are a bit soft when using the Canon Extender RF 2x on the RF 400mm f/2.8. The sharpness is good across the frame if you stop down one stop. The 2x Extender increases lateral CA noticeably and barrel distortion slightly. The 2x Extender does impact sharpness and contrast.

[Black] My main use is for bird photography, and camouflage is necessary. They fit; they do their job; they protect the lens, and I couldn't work without them. Excellent.

[Black] this amazing cover does the two things I needed perfectly--protect my expensive lens from scrapes and scratches and insulates my hands from the cold lens barrel while shooting in extremely cold conditions. Now I want one for my EF 300 f/2.8 next.
