Tiffen 39mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.

If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.

If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.

Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can it fit in Cokin P-Series Filter Holder?

A: The Cokin P filter holder is designed to fit 85 x 100mm square filters, and a 77mm circular polarizer will not fit. Check out the Cokin P164 Circular Polarizer for a filter that will fit the Cokin P holder: http://bhpho.to/JSbSAt

Q: 2. Will this fit the Panasonic DMC-FZ70K lens? Will all the 55mm filters fit?

A: Yes, the Tiffen filter will fit the FZ70K and the camera will take all of the 55mm screw in filters.

Q: 3. When a polarizing filter is in the neutral position, does it still weaken light? And can it be used as a lens protection filter as the UV filter?

A: Most Circular Polarizers cause about a 1.5-2.5 stop of light loss when on your lens depending on where the filter has been rotated to. Circular Polarizers are not designed as protection filters but they can protect the front element of your lens like any other filter.

Q: 4. does the filter come with a carrying case or it just a filter in a box?

A: Yes, it comes in a case.

Q: 5. Is the Tiffen 72CP Polarizing filter screw in and can the amount of polarizing be changed by rotating the filter?

A: Yes, the Tiffen 72mm Circular Polarizing Filter is a screw mount filter. This filter does allow you to adjust the amount polarization you want to use by rotating the outer ring.

Q: 6. Looking for a circular Polarized lens filter for a Fuji Finepix S4080 (24mm lens), can you help me?

A: I don't understand why you want a 24mm, those are super small for the Fuji Finepix S4080's lens. It appears that the camera doesn't have a way to install filters without buying an attachment. If you are adventurous, you can slightly modify your camera. Measure the diameter of the lens body and buy a filter ring that fits within the diameter. You would then glue the adapter ring onto the lens body. Then you can add any standard filter!

Q: 7. Is this cause vignetting with wide-angle lenses?

A: Depending on the focal length of your lens, this filter may cause vignette. You may want to look into a wide angle circular polarizer, such as the Tiffen 62mm Circular Polarizing Wide Angle (Low Profile Design) Filter: http://bhpho.to/1qbv3r0

Q: 8. Will this lens (67mm) work on the nikon coolpix p900?

A: This filter will fit any lens with 67mm filter threads

Q: 9. Can a lens cap fit on this filter?

A: It sure does

Q: 10. what's the difference between the coarse thread compared to the normal ones?

A: Coarse threads screw on and off faster than the normal ones. However, you need to make sure that your filter holder is threaded correctly. I live in Clearwater Fl., which is fairly sandy. If I used fine threaded filters, and got a grain of sand in the threads there is a good chance the threads would be stripped because of the thinness of the metal in the threading. While the coarse thread filters can also be stripped, I have yet to ruin one. For me, its just a personal choice, but I make sure all of my filters are compatible. I also have put filter adapter rings on all of my lenses to make them all take 77mm filters and lens caps. I have 8 lenses (including an 80-400mm Nikon Zoom and my largest diameter is 77mm so I took all of my lenses to that size. It eliminates purchasing duplicate filters in multiple sizes and makes all of my lens caps fit all of my lenses.

[39 mm] I feel like you need the polarizing filter for Digital Photography over others, Tiffen makes a good product and i use them the most, have been since back i the early eighties. The quality of the threads makes it and easy on and off and the adjustment ring is easy to use, and you can see the difference through the view finder. My one and only gripe about this filter is you can't stack another filter as the front is not threaded not that you need to. You need a good filter at a working mans price go with this and you will be happy

[Glass] Needed a polarizer really quickly for some video work for a car dealership. Saw some mixed reviews on this one, so I wasn't sure what I'd get. I was very pleasantly surprised! It noticeably cuts down on glare and reduces reflections in paint. That said, I found myself making compromises and choices when shooting entire vehicles, i.e., I couldn't cut glare on windows toward the rear of a car and on the front badging at the same time for instance. I assume that's just down to my inexperience and my need to shoot close and wide for the video work I was doing. I can imagine it performing even better for stills with a longer focal length and more compression. I imagine there are more effective polarizing filters when you're ready to spend hundreds, but for around $30, this one does the job and does it well. If you're like me, wondering if it would perform as advertised, rest assured that It does. B&H next day shipping got it to me with time to spare, and I'm 1,000 miles away from New York. No complaints.

[0.085 lb] I used this with my D3400 and the 18-55mm AF P lens, on a recent trip to the Grand Canyon. The images were fantastic, partly or mostly because of this filter. Can't wait to print these photos!
