[82 mm to 77 mm] There are less expensive rings, but seem silly to put a low cost ring on a $3000 or higher lens. Threads on and off easily! 5

[Aluminum] It seems to be well made and works well. I bought this to try to use a 77mm singh ray vari duo filter on an 82mm wide angle Ziess 21mm lens but unfortunately the lens vignettes pretty badly. This is by no means a fault of the step down ring. It has a thin profile. Be careful not to overtighten it can be pretty tight getting your fingers into the threads to remove the filter. 5

[82 mm to 77 mm] I use this step-down ring on my tilt-shift lens with the expensive 77mm filters I already had gotten for my telephoto lenses. It works with no vignetting on my camera (1.3 crop factor). Simple, inexpensive and it works. 5
