This 1/8 strength filter softens highlights and creates a blooming effect that reduces contrast in the scene. It also maintains detail while softening features like skin for a more pleasing appearance of your subject.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the difference between the 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2 pure mist filters?

A: The highlights and contrast would be stronger on the VFX 95 Pure Mist Filters as you go from 1/2 down to 1/8.

A: No manual focus only lens

Q: 3. Does anyone know if the front thread is the same mm as the back on these Vivitar Variable ND's?

A: On this particular filter, the front threads are 82mm in diameter.

A: The Vaxis Pure Mist filter would diffuse light sources and create a softer image while the Vaxis Black Mist filter would diffuse light sources without creating a softer image.

Q: 5. I received this for my Sony 55mm lens and it does great however my lens cap doesn’t seem to fit the filter. Where can I get a cap that fits?

Q: 6. Does this come with the plastic insert for the tilta mirage that's shown in the second image or is that a seperate purchase?

A: I have e-mailed the manufacturer concerning your above inquire about the plastic insert being included with the purchase of the Vaxis VFX 95 Pure Mist 1/4 Filter. Unfortunately, as of the date/time of this reply, I have not yet received a reply from the manufacturer. I will update the reply once I receive a reply from the manufacturer. In the meantime, if you purchase the above filter and it does not work for your usage needs, do note you have 30 days from the original purchase date to return the filter for an exchange or a refund. The Tilta Dual Circular Filter Tray for Mirage Matte Box, B&H # TIMBT16DCF, appears to be the filter tray if you desire to purchase one as a separate purchase.

Q: 7. How well does this work for portraits?

A: Yes, this will a compact portrait-length prime with a wide aperature suited for portraiture and low light photography.

Q: 8. I bought this filter for my new Sony AX-53 after viewing the footage, I see a distinct pink cast. Thinking I may have an incorrect setting, I set the filter/protector option to ON.I shot more footage and there was not difference with the filter/protector setting on or off. I still have the pink tint. My video footage was taken in bright sunlight. It appears that I can remove the tint in post but I'd rather not have to do that. Am I missing something? Thank you.

A: It could be a setting in the camera itself. The AX53 has different picture effects you may want to change. It also could be a white balance setting that is causing a pink cast. If you are still facing issues feel free to email us directly at provideo@bhphoto.com and we can help you further trouble shoot your camera.

Q: 9. what's the difference between the Vaxis Pure Mist and Black Mist filters?

A: Both filters decrease contrast and diffuse light, but the Black Mist is more subtle, lowering highlights, but not affecting the shadows as much as the Pure Mist filter.

Q: 10. Does the aperture ring have click stops?

A: I'm sorry but the aperture ring does not have click stops.

[55 mm] Love this for long, night exposures. It produces a natural and un-deliberate effect, unlike a diffusion filter. Even on b/w landscapes, it spreads the light out more.

[0.14 lb] It holds 6-7 cards plus 4-5 notes. Easy to access any card you need while keeping the overall thickness very low. Like the design.

[55 mm] I have several lenses from 7artisans that I love to use on my Fujifilm cameras. This Black Mist is my first filter I have bought from that company. It gives an old-school highlight look with the right light, smoothing the contrast to appear more film-like!
