The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter - Plugableallows you to connect from a Thunderbolt 2 or Mini Dual-Mode DisplayPort (DP++) output on your laptop, desktop, or tablet to virtually any HDMI-enabled display. The passive design of this adapter relies on the DisplayPort output of the host system to provide the necessary signaling to support an HDMI display. The adapter supports resolutions up to 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz. It also supports 60 Hz refresh rates at 2560 x 1440 and 1080p resolutions.

This adapter is compatible with Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 Macs, or laptops that have Dual-Mode Mini DisplayPort output ports (DP++) to add a HDMI-capable monitor, TV, or projector. In order to display at 4K resolution, the host's graphics adapter and attached display need to support 4K resolutions. Please note, this adapter is not bi-directional and will on convert a Mini DisplayPort output to HDMI; it will not convert video in the opposite direction. Furthermore, this adapter is not compatible with Microsoft Surface Docking Stations, AMD Eyefinity, or NVIDIA Surround.

One example: got a laptop and just fine with the single screen most of the time. But, every now and then you would not mind having that extra screen and you even have an old vga monitor well this will get you that duel screen without having to go out and buy a new monitor you really don't want. : ) 5

[Passive] [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Perfect to convert DisplayPort to HDMI This Plugable dongle has been working great to convert my DisplayPort output on my computer to work with an HDMI cable. Important note is that this is one-way: DisplayPort to HDMI, not the other way around. I chose to go with an adapter like this, rather than a cable with different DisplayPort and HDMI ends, as this gives me the freedom to change the HDMI cable I'm using with the computer if I want longer or shorter. No complaints!! 5
