The Astatic 901VP Condenser Boundary Microphoneis a condenser boundary microphone with a continuously variable polar pattern. It is primarily designed to capture speech and voice for sound-reinforcement and teleconferencing applications in governmental, institutional, religious, and business settings.

When positioned on conference tables, desks, stage floors, or lecterns, the 901VP takes advantage of the boundary effect to capture a clear speech with reduced room ambience for intelligibility.

The continuously variable polar pattern allows the installer to precisely tailor the voice pickup pattern for the best performance depending on the application or environment.

Suitable for business applications, the 901VP is built to resist interference from devices such as cell phones and two-way communication devices. It also features a rugged metal body and shock-absorbing rubber bottom for easy placement on almost any flat surface.

The 901VP comes with a 30' detachable microphone cable that is terminated with a TA3F connector at one end and a 3-pin male XLR connector at the other. To operate, the mic requires 12, 24, or 48 V phantom power consuming 4mAh.

  • The continuously variable polar pattern offers cardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-8 patterns with in-between variations
  • The polar pattern can be quickly changed using the built-in control located under the mic

  • The polar pattern can be changed remotely by setting the onboard variable pattern control to figure-8 and adding the CAD Audio VPC-1 remote variable pattern control box (available separately) between the microphone and audio mixer.
  • The pattern can also be electronically controlled by utilizing the 40-360 DSP cable and corresponding software (both available separately) with compatible digital-signal platforms.

  • The integrated 80 Hz, 12 dB/octave high-pass filter removes unwanted low-frequency energy such as rumble, room ambience, and proximity noise to improve speech intelligibility

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. When muted, is there a light indicator?

A: Yes, the mute on/off status of the Senal MXBM-621/O MX Series Condenser Boundary Microphone is indicated by a dedicated LED.

Q: 2. Does this need a power module or phantom power? Tried hooking an older but similar AT boundary mic to a TASCAM DR-40 using the COXMMXF25 cable and would not work with or without phantom power on. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

A: Yes it will need phantom power. The spec. sheet that came with the mic should tell you the voltage. If your mixer can't do phantom power there are products out there that will hook up to the mic then into the mixer that will do the job. Good luck.

Q: 3. In a larger area can multiple Omnidirectional mics be used without the mics be affected by signal interference with each other?

A: Unless you have some sort of physical separator like a barrier between the two microphones, you will not be able to keep the two MXBM-610/O Condenser microphones from picking up other sounds in the room as it is an Omnidirectional mic. A directional microphone would be much more appropriate for this kind of application if you are looking to cut down on bleed between mics.

Q: 4. Why does this picture appear to have two separate Mics in it. Does one fit inside the other? No real explanation on site...

A: This product shot is for one gooseneck microphone. The product image was provide by the manufacturer.

Q: 5. is connector swivel ?

A: The connector is a 3 pin XLR and it does not swivel.

Q: 6. is there an xlr m cable included?

A: The Audio-Technica UA851R includes a 25 foot XLR output cable with with TA3F and XLRM-type connectors for connection from the mic to your recording/output device.

Q: 7. Will this mic work in a House of Worship?

A: The Senal MXBM-621/O MX Series Condenser Boundary Microphone will function the same regardless of the type of building it is used in. All it requires is an XLR mic input which can provide phantom power.

Q: 8. Is this mic picking up footsteps on a theater stage?

A: This is designed for surface-mounted applications on conference tables, podiums, lecterns, etc...

Q: 9. Can you recommend a preamp/power supply for this mic? I don't need a mixer as I plan to feed the mic into an ATEM mini with an adapter

A: You can use the Rolls MP13 Mini-Mic Preamp (B&H # ROMP13) to power the Audio-Technica U851Rb Cardioid Condenser Boundary Microphone, then use an XLR female to 3.5mm TRS male cable like the Kopul XRSM 3-Pin XLR Female to 3.5mm RA Stereo Mini-Plug Cable - 3' (B&H # KOXRSM03B) to connect the output from the MP13 to the 3.5mm TRS input on the Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini HDMI Switcher.

Q: 10. Can i use this with an android phone

A: The ATR4697 features a mono 1/8 jack designed for connection to a portable audio recorder. Although the connector is the same size, will not be recognized by a smartphone or tablet.

[1.215 lb] I had been hauling around an AKG D112 along with a stand to mic our drummer's kick at gigs. This BA19 is way more convenient and sounds much better with little eq needed. I selected the switchable presence eq curve, threw it on top of the muffling in the kick and voila! Sounds great. No need to haul and set up an extra stand. No more worry about extraneous sound or it moving. Very happy

[1.215 lb] Purchased to install in our auditorium to pick up the audience during our online Bible class. The mic picks up Great you would think each reader had their own mic.

[1.215 lb] These boundary mics are just the thing when you have multiple speakers for instance. I put two on a tabletop while the presenters were using their computers and the audio was clear and crisp, with no hint of feedback. The most surprising aspect was that the mic rejected the ambient sounds like table pops and people using their keyboards, and didnt sacrifice vocal clarity... and the mic never clipped at all. The only possible shortcoming may be the snake that runs from the mic to the XLR connector... and that is that the cable appears to be thinner gauge that I would expect. I dont forsee any problems but I can see that becoming a possibility over time... however, I understand their reasoning as the mic will need to be placed on a tabletop, so a bigger cord may look out of place. Overall, very VERY impressed, and as an audiophile, that is a lofty compliment.

[Solid-State] I used velcro tape to stick this underneath a hammered dulcimer. Gives even amplification into my amplifier.

[Solid-State] Used three of these for a town meeting in a room with terrible acoustics. They worked great. One of the mics sounded a little bit metalic but I think that had to do with the soundboard we were using. In a small conference room, one mic covers the entire room. The only thing I wish they had was a mute toggle button but for the price they are very good for speech applications.
