The Zfc is a DX-format mirrorless camera sporting a 20.9MP CMOS sensor, which pairs with EXPEED 6 image processing to realize quick shooting performance up to 11 fps, UHD 4K video recording at 30p, and sensitivity up to ISO 51200. Focusing on the physical design, the Zfc stands out as a clear reference to Nikon's classic SLR film camera heritage, and features several familiar physical controls on the body, including dedicated dials to adjust ISO, shutter speed, and exposure compensation. The body also features a 2.36m-dot OLED EVF and supports SnapBridge wireless connectivity for pairing with a mobile device for remote camera control. The DX-format 20.9MP CMOS sensor is paired with the EXPEED 6 image processor to provide a versatile mixture of high sensitivity, nuanced image quality, and fast overall performance. At native values, a sensitivity range from ISO 100-51200 permits working in a broad array of lighting conditions, and can be further expanded up to ISO 204800 for extreme low-light conditions. The mixture of resolution and sensor size also contributes to clean image quality and smooth color transitions with reduced noise throughout the sensitivity range. In addition to benefitting image quality, the EXPEED 6 processor also affords a wealth of speed throughout the camera system, including a top full-resolution continuous shooting rate of 11 fps.

Besides imaging, the sensor's design also incorporates a 209-point hybrid autofocus system, which uses both phase-detection and contrast-detection methods to quickly and accurately acquire focus for both stills and video applications. This focusing system also supports Eye Detection AF, which uses facial recognition to help lock focus onto subjects' eyes.

Capable of recording more than just stills, the Zfc supports UHD 4K video recording at up to 30 fps and Full HD recording at up to 120 fps, for slow-motion effects, along with the ability to save movie files to the in-camera memory card. In-camera time-lapse shooting is also possible.

Precision carved aluminum dials with engraved markings and mechanical controls for shutter speed, ISO, and exposure compensation. Intuitive functions also enable easy access to auto mode, quick settings, and the menu help guide.

  • A large 3" 1.04m-dot LCD screen is available for bright, clear, and vivid image playback and live view shooting. The screen has a vari-angle design, which benefits front-facing selfie captures, and it is also a touchscreen for more intuitive operation, navigation, and settings control.

  • A 2.36m-dot electronic finder is present for comfortable eye-level viewing. It has a 1.02x magnification and uses NIKKOR optics to guarantee a sharp, clear image.

  • A robust magnesium alloy chassis is both dust- and weather-resistant to benefit working in harsh climates and inclement conditions.

  • Built-in SnapBridge connectivity to enable seamless transfer of low-resolution imagery as well as remote shooting capabilities. BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and Wi-Fi enables communication between the camera and a smart device and, additionally, the mobile device can remotely trigger the shutter and display a live view image from the camera to enable working from a distance.

  • Live streaming and web conferencing via separately purchased USB Type-C cable.

  • 3.5mm stereo mini-pin jack provides plug-in power

  • Included EN-EL25 rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides approximately 300 shots per charge.

  • Compatible with NIKKOR Z lenses as well as F-mount lenses using the separately purchased FTZ Mount Adapter.

[Approx. 1.02x] I am stopped, regularly, and asked why I am shooting with film.
I miss the option of a wired remote release. I also can not believe that the camera arrives with no real instruction book, only a pamphlet for intro to digital photo. The 28mm f2.8 is a perfect match for the body and a fine lens. The close focus is a real bonus.

[3"] A terrific small camera that delivers the goods and offers a multitude of dials and buttons to allow access to all the main functions. Excellent ergonomics, fast and accurate AF, good quality video, and a gorgoeus retro styling, something I find very appealing.

[TTL] So far I haven't used the camera but a few times but the times I have used it I have really loved it. The weight is a big thing for me since it's not so heavy and when we go places I have gotten tired of lugging a huge amount of equipment. Also the video function is very good with great audio and a smooth focus.
So far so good - can't wait to use it on a project and a serious outing.

[1.9 lb] I started using Nikons in the 70's and went on to 4x5's and resisted digital cameras as long as possible. I tried a few recommendations but my old school thinking was my down fall until my daughter introduced me to the ZFC. It's an easy camera for the old die hard to use. Set it to manual and I've never been happier.

[3"] I originally owned the Nikon DF from years and still use it to date. When Nikon came out with this mirrorless version(although cropped sensor) I had to get it. I also purchased the 50-250mm zoom and the 24mm f1.7 to cover a broader range. Its smaller form factor makes it easier to carry, with all lenses, in the Think Tank 7M cases that came in the bundle. This is definitely a light weight, carry all day set up. Image quality great, typical for a nikon sensor. I also like the high ISO performance.

[Stereo ] My Zfc was bought as a simple, extra camera to use for day-to-day scenery and family photo opportunities but it is capable of so much more. The operations are most simple and the results certainly exceed expectations. The weight of the camera and simplicity of controls make it a very easy to live with companion for walks in the park, visits to the beach and other general operations. The testing I have done indicates that the capabilities easily exceed my expectations! It could easily be the go-to camera for most of my current applications. Job well done, Nikon!

[100%] I've been shooting with my Z fc for over a week. So far I have been so happy to shoot fully manually that I haven't gotten around to the auto modes. It is like an advanced digital version of shooting with my old Canon AT1 from my youth. Great files. I have the short zoom kit and also the 50-250 lens.
This camera is going to feed my photography habit for a very long time. It has so much going for it and so much to explore. My previous digital experience was with a Nikon D700 which gave me great files. But I felt exposed in public with it. The Z fc takes care of that' as it is a great size: not too big and not too small.

[1.9 lb] I love this camera -- I traded in my old DSLR because I wanted something smaller and lighter, but that still had the option for interchangeable lenses.

[Nikon Z] I love the handling, the ergonomics, the feature set and most importantly the quality of the images I am able to get. The 16-50 kit lens is surprisingly sharp across the frame with with excellent contrast. The low light performance of this sensor is was surprisingly good. I was reluctant to go mirrorless after shooting with a DSLR for so many years but this camera is an unexpected treat.
