The 49mm Hoya Alpha II Circular Polarizer Filter 49mmfrom Hoya Alpha II Circular Polarizer Filter 49mmhas a slimmer frame and better glass than the original alpha CPL. Leaving out premium features like multi-coating, optical glass, and a hardened, waterproof top layer, the alpha series is designed as an entry-level CPL filter for those starting out in photography.

The alpha II CPL gives scenic photography more punch by darkening blue skies so that white clouds and foliage stand out. Light rays become polarized when traveling through moisture and pollution, as well as when they reflect off non-metallic surfaces such as glass or bodies of water. A polarizing filter absorbs polarized light and helps remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces. By removing these reflections, this filter also increases color saturation, especially in leaves and foliage.

[Glass] Helps when shooting during the day when lighting isn't great.

[4 x 2.8 x 0.5"] I have used Hoya cp filters for over 50 years and have never had a problem. I still have some of the original ones from 50 years ago. There is some vignetting but that is due to the thickness of the filter. I shoot loose so I can crop out any vignetting or photoshop the corners if I can't crop.

[Glass] This cuts more than the Uv model - and is very good for the price. I live by the sea and also shoot a lot of window displays so a Polarizer is fairly essential. I've used Hoya filters for 30 years on multiple cameras, and they are a quality filter.

[Glass] Easily rotates, polarizes as it should. Fits on my Canon FD f/1.8 50mm lens perfectly (its for a Canon AE-1 Program. The lens width at the end is actually 52mm... it was confusing trying to figure this out but I am glad I have a polarized filter now.
