Q: 1. which one is best zoom ssh-6 or zoom sgh-6 ? if ssh-6, can i use only directional separately if i don,t want the ambience sound?

A: Both the Zoom SSH-6 and SGH-6 are excellent mic options to use with the Zoom H5/H6 recorders. Which you use depends on your application. The SSH-6 is stereo, and the SGH-6 is mono. The stereo mic will be great for recording ambience, special effects, music at a distance. The mono mic is useful for dialogue recording, especially in high noise environments.

Q: 2. The ssh model is described as having an hyper-cardioid polar pattern and the sgh a super-cardioid polar pattern. Is there a functional difference?

A: The main difference between the two models is that the SGH-6 uses three internal mic capsules and has a supercardioid polar pattern for a tight, focused response and dual-mono output. The SSH-6 is a stereo mid-side shotgun microphone with two internal mic capsules which each pickup sound from a different direction in order to create a wider stereo image with more ambience than a mic that picks up sound from one direction. One capsule from the SSH-6 is extremely focused on picking up sound on center and can be combined with its bidirectional capsule which is able to pickup sound from the left or right side to create a spacious stereo image that can be mono-compatible. For example, you can record dialogue with the center microphone and then mix in the desired amount of ambient sound captured by the side microphone. Both models are very good for picking up dialog. The SGH-6 is for one direction and SSH-6 is also capable of stereo imaging.

Q: 3. Can we mix the directional shotgun mono with the stereo ambience in post? Or is the mix embedded into the audio track as set on the device?

A: The mix will be a mid-side stereo track. You would need mid-side decoder plug-in software to separate the mono mic and the bi-directional mic stereo track in post production.

Q: 4. What's the max dB SPL this mic can handle? thanks

A: A maximum SPL rating for the Zoom SSH-6 Stereo Shotgun Microphone Capsule for H5, H6, U-44 and Q8 has not been provided by the manufacturer.

Q: 5. It is a internally a 48V powered microphone?

A: The SGH-6 is powered by the Zoom recorder, but it is not 48V.

Q: 6. Will this work the Zoom H8?

A: Yes, this will work with the H8.

Q: 7. Can you directly ship it to Kathmandu, Nepal? I am paying it from Australia Please.

A: You may calculate your actual shipping options/order totals by adding the items you want to a shopping cart. It will then list the shipping options, descriptions, ETA's and fees to your location.

Q: 8. I'm wondering: is the SSH-6 as good as the SGH-6 in terms of directional 'power'? Or do i need to move it closer to the subject than with the SGH-6?

A: I conducted several tests using both the SGH-6 and the SSH-6. The SSH-6 is 1 inch longer than the SGH-6. The end of the microphone was moved back by 1 inch for each SSH-6 test. So, the distance from the end of the microphone to my mouth was always the same for both. I conducted the tests at 6 inches, 1 foot, 2 feet, and 3 feet. In each case to achieve a level above 12 dB but below 6 dB I adjusted the gain on the microphone. In all cases the two microphones required the same gain. The side stereo level on the SSH-6 was set to 0 dBfor all test. So, I would say to your question, Yes, the power and beam for the shotgun portion of the two microphones are the same.

Q: 9. Can this remote be used for the Zoom H6?

A: The correct remote to be used with the Zoom H6 is the Auray RC-ZH6. The RC-ZH5 is designed for the H5.

Q: 10. does the SSH-6 require phantom power?

A: No idea, but as long as you connect it to a Zoom audio module like the F1 (the one I have), etc... it will be powered. This is for sure not a stand alone mic. It is designed to be used on capsule compatible zoom recorders. Not your question but let me tell you this thing is amazing ! Cheers.

[0.06 lb] My Zoom SSH6 came with a fuzzy windscreen but, I just don't like the look. So I purchased this item for different shoots. Its a bit thicker than what I anticipated but I suppose it probably blocks more wind. Just what the doctor ordered.

[Faux Fur] This is a total must have attachment if you have a Zoom H6. I was very excited when it delivered the day before I had to shoot a big wedding, and it capture some great audio, and very memorable moments. Very clear, clean directional sound.

[Faux Fur] The H4 is great, but why not spend a little extra and get the H5 since it can accept attachments? For documentary work this is totally worth it.

[Faux Fur] I have been using the SGH-6 shotgun capsule on my Zoom H5N. The audio is clear and it allows me to keep all of my audio equipment on my DSLR rig. I like the mobility and versatility it provides. I would highly recommend this mic for anyone using a H5N or H6.

[0.06 lb] Superb mic that makes the H5 a great recording device. Only thing missing is a protective cover which could protect this device when not in use. The base recording unit H5 does have its own plastic container.
