A: The SmallRig AD-01 Heavy-Duty Tripod with Fluid Head (B&H# SM3751) does offer a counterbalance mechanism, but it's not especially strong, and in our opinion it would be very unlikely to be bothersome to anyone. As you mentioned, the counterbalance cannot be changed. The head is not designed to be taken apart, nor the spring removed.

A: Yes, the 75mm ball can be removed and have other video bowl systems adapted to the SmallRig AD-01 tripod unit.

[Yes] I picked this up on sale at B&H for the $69 I paid. I can't imagine a better value for a budget video head. No, it's not anywhere close to my Sachtler FSB-6, but for use on a monopod or a static B-cam, it's impressively good. The tilt-out quick release plate is very convenient, and works fine with my Manfrotto and Sachtler plates. The option to work with the SmallRig DJI RS 2 gimbal plate should prove convenient for owners who want to quickly switch between tripod and gimbal. I look forward to trying that. The internal spring does a little bit of counter balancing, but it is not adjustable and entirely dependent on the weight of the camera. My S1H rig (Tilta cage, Tilta V-mount plate and small battery) balance perfectly with the Pany 20-60 S lens. If I add the Pany 24-70 lens, the spring can't handle the additional weight. So, keep expectations low for counter balance results, or buy a professional fluid head. The pan and tilt locks can add a little drag, but they are really best used for just locking position. Fortunately, both pan and tilt are very smooth on my copy of this video head, which is most important. The length adjustable arm is a nice feature that I don't have on my Sachtler FSB-6 head. The quick release plate locking screw's head and release lever appear to be made of plastic. I think they will need to be used gently to hold up under use. Fingers crossed that these don't break. The bubble level is hard to read, but that is true with many video heads. Overall build quality, fit and finish seem to be quite good. Only time will tell how this holds up, but as it will mainly be used on a monopod and B-cam, I think it will be fine. It is easily as good as a Manfrotto MVH500AH video head, which is ergonomically harder to use, costs more and doesn't have some of the SmallRig head's features. SmallRig is expanding their product line, and this is an example that they are capable of some good stuff. Well done, SmallRig. 5

[+90° to -75°] This is my first fluid head, so I don’t know what to compare it to, but it moves smoothly. One thing I didn’t realize is it self-levels, so if you want to hold an upward/downward angle, you need to tighten the clutch on the side. 5

[Yes] whoever feels the need to bash this product because of a so called spring, that they feel is in it; doesn't seem to be interested in talking about the functionality of this fluid head; i have another fluid head that i purchased for B&H that cost me around $150; for what i am doing with my FX3, this item goes great with my monopod; it's like a perfect combination; its lightweight, sturdy and all that i hoped it would be and more; so, if anyone tells you that they don't like it because of a spring being in it (and you know what, if there is so what); then they aren't truly interested in letting people know if this will work for them or not anyone who is doing video with a camera like the Sony FX3, or other mirrorless cameras, if your intent to purchase this product for mobile filming applications then you four the right one! 5

[Fluid Head] I bought this for use with a heavy Kowa 86mm spotting scope. I'm pleased to find that the head's built-in resistance prevents the scope from tipping over. Ergonomics are good with easy to use and reach controls. It's beefy but doesn't make the tripod top-heavy. It is perfect for the scope. The only thing I would change is the clamp... I wish it used an Arca-Swiss mount. 5

[2.635 lb] At full price, this would be pretty good, but on sale? It's fantastic. The movement is decent, the knobs feel good. The top loading plate is nice, though it takes a little fiddling to get the hang of how it works. 5
