For photography, since it's not bright like a strobe, I don't believe that it would be bright enough in many situations if you were going to diffuse or bounce the light, though I can see where it would be useful as a fill light, background light or light for highlighting hair in a portrait situation.

A: Lumens isn't quite the right way to measure the brightness of a light, since it refers to the amount of illumination on a flat square meter of space, in lux. At 3 feet, in the center of the beam, you get 1120 lux, and the light has a 30 degree beam angle. The rest of the math gets a bit too tricky for my pay grade from there, but the gist is that this light is strong for its size, and is for shooting a tight shot on a relatively close subject.
