Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How long do the batteries last?

A: Our customers report 2 to 4 hours continuously depending upon the microphones used.

Q: 2. Can I add a non Condenser mic and just use one of the port as a pass through no phantom power required?

A: No you can't. This is an active device it is always passing current whether you use phantom or not. If you plug a dynamic into it the capsule will burn out in time.

Q: 3. my battery door is broken. there is a little gold piece like a washer for the screw to thread into...but this piece is not attached to anything so the screw won't turn to hold the door closed. has anyone had this problem...and if so...any fixes other than tape? i have had the item less than a year...so i am a bit bummed.

A: The gold piece is a brass nut that is pressed in a hole and held by friction. It most likely came loose by overtightening of the door screw. The solution is to disassemble the whole back panel and to carefull hammer the periphery of the hole with a ball pen hammer to make it a little smaller. Press the brass nut back into the hole and reassemble the back plate. Do not overtighten the door screw.

Q: 4. Can this be used with other than Audix mics?

A: It's actually a bit more complicated that John P's answer. You have to make sure the polarity on the mic you want to use is matched to the polarity of the power supply. I bought this power supply intending to use it with a non-Audix mic but the polarities were not matched and I only got a very faint, noisy signal. Bought an Audix mic and it works great.

Q: 5. Does this add hiss or ground-loop hum to the signal or is it clean?

A: I installed the Art phantom power supply in our pulpit microphone circuit when the phantom power supply portion of our sanctuary mixer board would intermittently fail. I have not noticed any unusual hiss or hum from the sanctuary speakers or our Youtube live stream recording. I cannot say how it would do for critical recording. The ART power supply does have internal isolation capacitors and a small external AC power supply (wall wart) which will provide a little more isolation from ground loops.

Q: 6. Can I output to RCA with an adapter with no issues?

A: No you can not use RCAs with phantom power. RCA cables are not balanced.

Q: 7. How long do the batteries last with output set to 48V? Also they state that the 7-12V AC adapter, but what's the AC adapter's minimum amperage?

A: My experience with one Sure Lav Mic has been at least 8 hours battery life on a video shoot. Good for Field work where you are not guaranteed power. I do not know the amperage minimum for the AC adapter but I can't believe it is anything under .5A. Check the spec sheet put our by Manufacturer. There are a ton of Universal AC's adapters available

Q: 8. Does the power supply only travel in one direction? ie along the input path so it travels only to the mic?

A: Yes, the power goes to the mic only.

Q: 9. The input connector is listed as mini XLR female - according to pics online, it is mini XLR Male, which would make sense. Can anyone confirm?

A: Obviously it's a mini XLR male! And the stuff does its job perfectly. I use it with my Shure condenser head-microphone (with an adapter cable from ta4f to ta3f)...

Q: 10. Does this unit come with a multi-voltage AC adapter?

A: The ART PHANTOM II Pro does not ship with an AC adapter. The package will include (2) 9 volt batteries. The unit will operate on 7 -12 volts DC, and universal power supplies are available for purchase separately.

[0.65 lb] This phantom power supply is one of the best you can get for the money.  It allows use of batteries for when youre out in the field, but also comes with an AC power supply.  There are lots of phantom supplies out there, but Rolls is quality and fully powers both mics.  Some cheaper power supplies will not actually send enough power to both or the power isnt clean and youll have a buzz or hum in your mics.  I would buy this supply over and over again.

[0.65 lb] I upgraded to this from the Mic Power II supply because the wall-wart version was introducing some high-pitched switching noise into the system. With the battery-operated option, the noise is no issue.

[0.65 lb] The box is really easy to use and super efficient. It's really great for on-the-go recording. The only negative comment I have is that the battery and compartment door rattle a bit. I made a pouch to hold it in that can be put on a belt, so that's not really a problem anymore. A bit of tape would probably do the job. I think the best thing about it is that it doesn't change the sound quality. It sounds as good as a direct mic does.

[0.65 lb] I use this device to provide Phantom power to my Olympus LS-11. It is still small enough for stealth recording(when put into a small bag). I was surprised at how well the combo actually worked! I also found the preamps weren't that noisy and the battery compartment problem was not that bad once I put a bit of foam inside.

[0.65 lb] I needed to have the ability to have phantom power for the AEA TRP preamp. I have been looking for a 4 channel Phantom Power supply. This one fits in the rack, and works well with the AEA TRP and CloudLifter or phantom power microphones. Regards, Joe
