Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. With the camera mounted can you see the level bubble thats right behind the plate?

A: We feel you will have no issue seeing the levels of this head.

Q: 2. Does anyone know if this head can be mounted on a Cosmo Mini 500 copy stand perhaps with an adapter; want to scan negs digitally and want to be able to level the camera?

A: While B&H does not carry the Cosmo Mini 500 Copy Stand you list above, it appears from the pictures on the manufacturer's website the screw on the copy stand is a 1/4"-20 male threaded screw. The Benro GD3WH 3-Way Geared Head has a 3/8"-16 female tripod socket on the base of the head, so you would need an adapter such as the Oben 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 Reducer Bushing, B&H # OB1039, to connect the Benro GD3WH 3-Way Geared Head to the Cosmo Mini 500 Copy Stand.

Q: 3. What is the included allen wrench for?

A: The allen key is for the small allen screws at the base of the qr plate, they are stops so the plate doesn't slide out but some users prefer not to use the screws.

Q: 4. Can you suggest a budget friendly tripod that won't move when set up to go with this head? Heavy is ok.

A: Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum Tripod B&H # MAMT055XPRO3

Q: 5. I want non padded pouch for travel, when head is detached from tripod. Which one is large enough to fit Benro? I am looking at Tenba Neoprene one https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1374639-REG/tenba_636_353_tools_soft_lens_pouch.html or Lenscoat https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/547496-REG/LensCoat_LCLPLWBK_LensPouch_Large_Wide_Black.html. What can you recommend?

A: The two you were looking into will not fit the head. I'd recommend a 15 inch or 19 inch lens wrap for it.

Q: 6. Will theKirk QRLB-T Universal Quick Release Tall L-Bracket fit this?

A: Yes the Kirk QRLB-T Universal Quick Release Tall L-Bracket is compatible with the Benro GD3WH 3-Way Geared Head.

Q: 7. Where have you been all my life? Hoping that this will be a more affordable option vs the Cube. Is it?

A: Yes, it is much more affordable than the Arca Swiss Cubes.

Q: 8. What is the widest the clamp can open? I need to fit in a base that is 43mm wide (which is wider than Arca standard)?

A: The widest the clamp can open is a tiny bit wider than the Arca Swiss, but not wide enough for the 43mm base.

Q: 9. I am considering this head for use with a Chamonix 4x5 camera. From the available images, it appears that the top knob is higher than the base plate, and might come into contact with the base of the camera. Is this the case or am I just looking at the images incorrectly?

A: The top knob gets very close to the camera plane. In a regular DSLR or mirrorless the camera ends by the plate and there is enough space between the plate and the knob where the camera will not touch the knob. If you are using a very large camera that extends many inches back from the tripod screw, the top knob would get in the way. At a minimum it would be very difficult for you to access the top knob with the large camera on the head,.

Q: 10. Does this use the same mounting plate as the ronin rs2?

A: DJI RS 2 has both upper and lower quick-release plates. The lower quick-release plate is compatible with the Manfrotto standard and can be mounted onto Manfrotto video tripod heads. The upper quick-release plate is compatible with the Arca-Swiss standard and can be compatible with Arca-Swiss tripods after disassembly. (Note: The Arca-Swiss and Manfrotto quick-release plates cannot be mounted onto the DJI RS 2 tripod.)

[Yes] I'm surprised that how reasonable this item is and it's very smooth. Not as tough as Benro one to change angles, and you can be very accurate with the very small shifts of angles.

It's a great geared-head. I highly recommend it as a pro who shoots for real estate / architecture / interiors.

[+90° to -45°] This holds my cameras rock solid. No creep which would drive me crazy when I would get my subject perfectly centered and then when I use a longer lens it would creep downward. Yes the knobs can be somewhat stiff but there are adjustments for that and as I get more familiar with the product I should be fine with that. I also picked up a Slim 700 DX tripod which works very well with this head. The price for both was very reasonable.

[2.74 lb] I have several ball heads for my tripods. I got this because I wanted more precision movement than the ball head provides. Granted, the fast adjustment suffers a little but I think the benefits far outweigh that..

[-45° to +90°] It works great! Light and easy to carry. It has a handle to carry around. Built seems good. A good budget tripod.

[Geared Head] I had been using the PlatyPod, which is great but for macro I needed more precise control and since I have bought other Benro products I figured I'd give this a try.

I am now able to increase the quality and focus on my macro subjects.

Others had mentioned the tightness of the quick release knobs but they work fine once the weight of the camera is added.

Definitely worth the price!

[+90° to -45°] I have been using ball heads for about 6 years. I do mostly landscape, astro, macro photography. Wow! I wish I had started using gearheads a long time ago. Ball heads, even really good ones, can still dip and mess up your composition after locking off, especially when zoomed at high magnifications. This gear head eliminates that issue. With very precise controls, you can get your composition perfectly without worry of it dipping after locking off. This is more for slow shooting so I wouldn’t use this for sports or wildlife where you need to act quickly. But for its purpose, it is great!

[2.74 lb] I've used ball heads for a long time. Started out with cheaper more budget friendly versions then progressed to more expensive but higher quality ones. I noticed that a lot of photographers had started using geared heads and pano heads. I did some research and decided to buy the Benro GD3WH-3. It pairs well with my Benro Mammoth tripod with leveling base. Dialing in to my composition is so much easier now and there is never any lens droop when using a long lens. It works great with panos. Really, this is the best tripod head I've ever used. My only complaints are the individual release knobs are a little tough to rotate and tough on the fingers. Also base is a little short as the knobs interfere with the tripod legs sometimes. Other than those two caveats, I think it's great and would recommend it.

[1x 1/4"-20 Male] Haven't had a chance to use it yet (due to weather) but seems to be very solid and stable and easy to adjust.

[1x 1/4"-20 Male] I shoot architecture and interiors and due to years of experience, stuck with my ball head. I decided to give this head a try to see how I liked it before investing in an Arca-Swiss. It was a Game Changer!!!

Do yourself a favor if you shoot arch/interiors and sometimes spend too much time getting your shots fully aligned. I cannot speak to the durability, as I've only used it on three long day shoots, but so far, I'm in love and never turning back to a ball head.
