The Roland SP-404MKII Stones Throw Limited Edition brings together the king of performance-based samplers with Stones Throw Records, the foremost purveyor of hip-hop, lo-fi, and eclectic sound culture. This limited collector's pack includes an exclusive faceplate, royalty-free Stones Throw sound content, a 7" vinyl record, and a mixtape.

Compact and portable, the SP-404MKII is a sampling workstation aimed at hip hop, lo-fi, and electronic-music producers, beatmakers, and DJs looking for creative ways to perform and produce using samples and effects. It improves on the original SP-404 sampler design with a vivid OLED display for visual sample editing with the ability to tap out edit points in real time, 17 velocity-sensitive RGB pads that can be customized, new effects on top of classic SP effects, a resampling workflow for rerecording patterns with effects layers, a pattern sequencer to rapidly turn ideas into full performances, and a massive sample library with 2560 samples and patterns to inspire your music.

Performance-based beatmaking is quick with speedy boot time, swift project loading and sample import, and easy project access via 16GB of internal storage. The SP-404MKII gives you the flexibility to create patterns, each with unique feel and energy. There's adjustable input quantizing and shuffle for custom swing, Pad Link for firing off multiple samples with a single tap, a Roll button for variable note repeat, and BPM-per-bank for instant tempo changes. It's also possible to organize patterns for different sets and chain them together to automate playback.

Skip Back Sampling automatically captures up to 25 seconds of audio from your last performance to grab those golden moments, while DJ Mode turns the SP-404MKII into a 2-channel DJ mixer. There is also the ever popular DJFX Looper for sampling, skipping, and scratching beats.

The USB-C port enables you to capture audio from—or stream direct to—your mobile device or laptop for a seamless workflow. It also allows you to connect to the SP-404MKII app for detailed waveform editing and importing MIDI files. The dual headphone outputs and mic/guitar input make it easy to collaborate with a partner without needing a mixer.

Featuring a lightweight yet rugged design, the SP-404MKII lets you bang out beats and produce tracks anywhere with AA or USB power (or with the included AC adapter). Use custom faceplates to personalize your SP-404MKII with your own style or logo for a look that matches your vibe.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How long is the speaker to speaker cable?

A: The included speaker to speaker cable is approximately 5-feet long.

Q: 2. Looking to buy JBL LRS 308 pair, and 310 sub. Will this support a sub ?

A: This controller is meant for a stereo pair and does not have a subwoofer connection. So it depends on where your subwoofer connection originates. If the subwoofer is directly connected to your stereo pair, then you're ok; otherwise, not. This is a great controller for a pair of powered monitors, and I really like the mono switch capability. The sound quality is beyond reproach.

Q: 3. Can this prevent speaker pop when shutting off console?

A: Yes, leslie h is correct. Using the mute botton or turing the knob to Zero will help prevent popping for you.

Q: 4. Can I use Wacom Tablet for Whiteboard writting?

A: Yes, this tablet can supply input to a wide variety of applications, including whiteboarding apps.

Q: 5. Can the MPC X stream multiple tracks via USB into Ableton?

A: This is a stand-alone music producton workstation, but you can record into the MPC 2.0 software, and then exporting the files individually into Ableton.

Q: 6. Does it work with drawception?

A: Yes, it should work with the program.

Q: 7. Can I just plug it in to my m audio 3 way active speakers and control the volume without a mixer?

A: You can however as it is a passive volume knob you will not have true reference grade monitoring. The shifting impedance will effect the frequency response and stereo image as you turn the volume up and down..... so for editing it is very convenient but for mix critical listening I would go with something that has an active volume control

Q: 8. Is this a new item, or has this been used and returned by a previous customer?

A: The Intel Arc A750 Limited Edition Graphics Card, B&H # INA750, is new. All the products on our website are new unless stated otherwise, used products are in the used department.

Q: 9. If i-phone is paired with these in blue tooth mode can I have a speaker-phone conversation?

A: Yes. But only sound will carry over.

Q: 10. How is the volume pot travel? Is it smooth or stepped ? Thanks!

A: Smooth as a baby's bottom

[Sample-Based] I've had for about 3 weeks now and absolutely love it. The workflow makes production quick and straightforward. My favorite thing about it is the fact that you make music with your ears; I've always tended to use Reason and other DAWS. I was tired of staring at screens and that's why I've come to really dig this little beast!!! Definitely recommend...

[Sample-Based] Fast card and very stable as long as you meet the motherboard and cpu recommendations. While the drivers aren't Nvidia level they are quite good for being so early on and haven't had a problem in any games as far as support.

Highly recommend for the price value and performance.

[OLED] After the price cut to $250, and the news of the tremendous performance games in DirectX9, I pulled the trigger. After ~3 weeks with the card, I couldn't have made a better choice. There isn't a better GPU for the price (though there are equivalent GPUs, Linux users go for the rx6600 (or the 6600xt) unless you have confidence in upgrading the kernel and getting reBAR to work).

As far as issues go, I've had a few blue screens in the last few weeks, and needing to update the drivers once a week when they release is a bit of a chore, but it's not too bad.

If you're ok with a little system instability and some driver shenanigans, then I can't recommend this GPU more for 1080p high/ultra gaming.

[ Included] I am a professional musician and music teacher. I have used everything from cheap $20 3 in 1 tuners to Dr. Beat's, but this is my favorite metronome. It gets really loud, which is perfect for string quartets or small chamber orchestras. It does have a subtle static hiss sound at high volume, but this really is my favorite nonetheless. I bought one in black when it first came out. I saw the white model and thought it looked cool, and after a few months bought another one. I do recommend getting rechargeable AAA batteries, because it does go through them decently fast. That said, I use mine almost everyday for a few hours. Lastly, I love the tap function on the top. It makes it really easy to quickly get a ballpark tempo, and then adjust with the dial as necessary. Finally a metronome that looks cool and is actually exciting to use!

[6x AA] I just received my new Korg KDM-3 so initial impression is all I can offer. That in impression though is excellent. Simple to use, volume is more than loud enough to hear over my bass at venue levels. I've read a couple of complaints about the Tempo knob felling loose but it doesn't feel that bad to me I've only used mine for a few hours so I can't really give anything in depth but check back with me in a few months and I'll know more then

[16 GB] As an MPC Live 2 owner, I was a bit skeptical about duplication in this device. After a few weeks of owning it, I can say that this is a critical piece of gear and it's become my main driver for music production! The workflow is very straight forward, chopping is a breeze with the new screen, and resampling with the many effects is a fresh change from the MPC workflow. Pads are responsive and finger drumming is great (MPC is still king here with the oversized pads but I can manage quite well). B&H was rapid with their shipping and delivery and I'd shop here again!

[2560x Pattern] I really dig the sp404 mkii, it's a solid little sampler only workstation that tries to make itself easy to use, and for most part pulls it off. The first update out of the box is critical and improved the workflow immensely. The sound of the machine is great, the fx are fun to use, sound great and have lots of controls. The skip back record feature works super well, as does editing and slicing.
There is no step sequencer, only a live one. You can midi trigger it from an external sequencer just fine though so with the sp 404 you either play your triggers live or get a second box to do trig programming.
I'd recommend this to someone that wants to make sample based, live played music. Any lofi or boom bap producers. Anyone that wants to make your head bop. Portablists that want to make backing beats. If you want a cool gift for your musically inclined 14 yo, consider getting them one of these.
Not for someone that wants to make complete tracks with a lot of detail on each layer in one box.

[Yes] Long time listener, first time buyer. Sounds good as it looks. What else?

If you are reading this then you probably know you should just buy it.

Still reading? Not surprised, but if it helps, I took time to write this thing!
