Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this be used in combination with other 58-mm close-up lenses to increase magnification?

A: Technically yes you can but you will run into a softer image and vignetting the more optical elements you place in front of the front element.

Q: 2. What is the difference between "NiSi 77mm Close-Up NC Lens Kit II" and "NiSi MC Close-Up Lens 77mm PRO II"?

A: The NiSi 77mm Close-Up NC Lens Kit II with 67 and 72mm Step-Up Rings is the newer version. The main difference between that and the Pro model which is older and is discontinued is the NC version has a Nano Coating.

Q: 3. Would this work with the Lensbaby Sweet 50 optic?

A: This is not compatible with the Lensbaby Sweet 50 Optic.

Q: 4. How many elements does this lens have?

A: The B+W 62mm Close-up +2 Lens (NL2), B&H # BWCU262, consists of one lens element.

Q: 5. Can this filter be used on the Canon RF 100-500L lens?

A: Yes, you can thread- in NiSi 77mm Close-Up NC Lens to Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM Lens. The lens would hunt for focus, I would recomend switching to manual focus.

Q: 6. Will this work with the LUMIX 35-100 micro 4/3 mirrorless lens? The 35mm equivalent of that lens is 70-200.

A: Yes. The following will work with no step up or down rings needed.

Q: 7. Can the 58mm NISI closeup work on the Nikon 105mm macro mount which is 62mm filter size without vignetting? What ring is needed?

A: You can use the Sensei 62-58mm Step-Down Ring, B&H # SESDR6258, with the NiSi 58mm Close-Up NC Lens Kit with 49 and 52mm Step-Up Rings. There should not be vignetting when using this combination with the Nikon AF-S VR Micro-NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED Lens.

Q: 8. Is there a knurrend version of the ring for 49mm thread to 95mm OD?

A: No, there is no knurled version of the Simmod Signature Series 49 x 95mm Front Step-Up Pro SimRing.

Q: 9. Can this be used in combination with the NiSi 58-mm close-up lens?

A: Chances are you will not be able to focus using both filters combined. And you can get flair and refraction. I would not suggest using both at the same time.

Q: 10. Do you have to get a lot closer to the subject when using these closeup lenses?

A: Yes, using the NiSi 77mm Close-Up NC Lens Kit II with 67 and 72mm Step-Up Rings would require you to move physically closer in order to focus effectively on the subject.

[Brass] Go ahead and spend a little more to get the brass rings, you'll be glad you did. First time you have a ring stick on you and you don't have a filter wrench you will wish you had purchased the brass ones.

[Side] This is a well-machined ring. The quality is obvious. The grooved surface certainly helps with the removal of the ring. I was a little bit apprehensive by the price, but, upon attaching it to my lens and filter, I concluded it is the best choice. I currently use it with my Nikon 180mmm AFD, a Nikon 77mm polarizing filter (1 Gen.) and the Nikon HN29 hood. The entire set up plus rear lens cap and a Tamron 86mm snap-on lens cap (for the HN29) fits perfectly into a LowePro LC2 lens case.

[Brass] Recently purchased a Nikkor 50 mm 1.4 lens. The filter size is 58 mm. I read a tip that suggested using a step-up ring to allow use of 77 mm filters which is the size of my other glass. This saves on buying multiple size filters (UV, CPL, ND, etc.) The Sensei step up ring works very well with my current 77 mm B&W filters.

[Side] I purchased the 72 mm to 77 mm step up ring to allow me to used a 77mm polarizer on a lens that has 72 mm threads. I was concerned about the threads because of problems I had with a previous step up ring. I purchased the Sensei PRO because it is made of brass instead of aluminum. The step up ring threads into the lens and filter easily. I have had some difficulty removing the filter from the ring but not the lens. I also purchased the Sensei filter wrench which allows easy removal of the filter from the ring

[Side] Excellent quality. Filters thread and remove easily without jamming. The ease of use makes this worth the hefty price.

[Brass] I use these to step up from adapted photo lenses for cinematography, with an 80mm outside diameter (and 77mm filter thread) to match other cine lenses. The Sensei brass step-up rings are really high quality, no comparison to various aluminum rings, and most cost-effective than the Heliopan. Actually I like the design of the Sensei better and would definitely only buy more of these now if I needed them.
