Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lens hood usable for the Zuiko M4/3 14-42mm II zoom kit lens also?

A: Unfortunately, no, it is not. The Olympus LH-40B Lens Hood is only available for the for M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f/1.8 Lens; it is not compatible with the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R Lens. You would need to purchase the Olympus - LH-40 Lens Hood for use with the Olympus M.Zuiko 14-42mm Lens (B&H# OLLH40).

Q: 2. How does the lens hood go onto the lens? I cannot get it to fit at all.

A: You need to remove the ring that is around the front of the lens. Just unscrew it and remove it and the hood will fit just fine.

Q: 3. I have a Olympus Pen E-PL2 is this lens compatible?

A: Yes.

Q: 4. Is this metal or plastic?

A: This hood is plastic.

Q: 5. What I'm really looking for is a lens hood for the Olympus 17mm f2.8 lens, not the the f1.8. Does anyone know if there is one for that lens? Thanks

A: B&H has several 37mm screw-in lens hoods... the Heliopan 71037H would surely work, but I think I'd try the General Brand 37mm Collapsible Rubber Lens Hood first. 17mm field of view isn't all THAT wide, and the rubber hoods collapse if they cause vignetting, but will still provide some protection from off-axis light.

Q: 6. What I am looking for is a full cap that I can put over the lens hood - not a cap for the lens. Can anyone suggest one that will fit the Olympus LH-48B?

A: I don't see a traditional lens cap staying on the inside of this hood as the edge is smooth. You can try one of those neoprene lens hats from Op/Tech that would stretch over the entire lens hood.

Q: 7. An this be used as an all-purpose lens, as well?

A: Yes, it is not just for portraits but it can be used for landscapes, street photography, and just about any type of photography. I find a short telephoto such as this (equivalent to 90 mm for full-frame) to be the most useful of all prime lenses (much more so than a wide angle IMHO). I find this lens to be somewhat comparable to my 105 mm Nikkor, which I use for my film shooting.

Q: 8. I have a 37mm filter on mine. How does the thumbscrew work? And why does it say 46mm screw in hood if the lens only accepts a 37mm filter????Thanks

A: The hood attaches around the filter. The thumb screw pushes a semicircle band inside the diameter of the hood applying even pressure to hold it on. Its basically a clamp.

Q: 9. I've read a hood can reduce veiling on this lens on high-key scenes when you're wide open? Can anyone speak to that?

A: The more non-image light you can keep from striking the front lens element the better. This hood is designed to provide maximum protection from side light without cropping into the image. If the hi key light source is actually within the image you're framing the hood will have no effect on reducing flare or veiling.

Q: 10. I've read that this hood attaches via a thumb screw -- Can it be reversed on the lens for easy storage and if so, is it securely attached in the reverse position or is the screw still required when it's in the reversed position?

A: Yes. The hood can be reversed for the storage. The screw is used to secure the hood in the reverse position. Since the screw does not protrude beyond the outside diameter of the hood, it is not an issue. It can store comfortably in a snug fitting neoprene lens bag.

[Proprietary] Walking around with a hood prevents light damage to your lens from bumps, and keeps the flare down on your pictures. I always have one on my lenses.

[0.14 lb] I always get the lens shade (I wish it would come with it). It provides protection from accidental bumps, and it helps reduce flare in your pictures. It is cheap insurance IMO.

[Proprietary] This is the most awesome lens hood I have ever in my life had the pleasure of experiencing. The silver is just the right amount of silver and the feeling that it gives me when I hold it in my hands is only surpassed by the joy I feel when I see it sitting on my desk attached to my camera, calling to me to be used and enjoyed. I love it so much, I bought a second one!  Seriously!
