Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this come with the plastic insert for the tilta mirage that's shown in the second image or is that a seperate purchase?

A: I have e-mailed the manufacturer concerning your above inquire about the plastic insert being included with the purchase of the Vaxis VFX 95 Pure Mist 1/4 Filter. Unfortunately, as of the date/time of this reply, I have not yet received a reply from the manufacturer. I will update the reply once I receive a reply from the manufacturer. In the meantime, if you purchase the above filter and it does not work for your usage needs, do note you have 30 days from the original purchase date to return the filter for an exchange or a refund. The Tilta Dual Circular Filter Tray for Mirage Matte Box, B&H # TIMBT16DCF, appears to be the filter tray if you desire to purchase one as a separate purchase.

Q: 2. does this work with the revoring adapters?

A: The H&Y Filters RevoRing Magnetic Front & Back Cap (58-77mm) is specific for the H&Y Filters RevoRing 59-77mm.

Q: 3. is this made of plastic?

A: The Windtech CM 58 is a plastic mount. We do carry some similar products that are brass such as the Windtech CM57 and the Audio Technica AT8469.

Q: 4. To figure out the size of the push-on lens cap - what is the OD of the filter?

A: any filter size plus 3mm

Q: 5. Are there any pros and cons between this Zeiss CP and a B+W Kaesemann CP?

A: I second the last reviewer. I have purchased and used both. Despite having a brass ring, the B+W has stuck to my lens thread. I even have a 72mm C-Pol filter by B+W with out of round adjustment ring. The worst part is that the polarizing film even has specks of dust trapped on the underside and mildly lifted at a small part of the edge (which I wasnt expecting for a Kaesmann). And there is even a part where the polarizing film was not even timed to meet the metal ring, leaving a micro gap prone to light leakage. Very disappointing for a B+W filter, given the price point. Otherwise, the optical quality was great. I have had mostly good luck with B+W filters except for this 72mm C-Pol and another 6-point star filter. Probably a QC issues at Schneider. The Zeiss is something else. The quality and craftsmanship are in a different league. The first thing you will notice when you open the package is the quality of the packaging. The filter comes out dust-free, a strong indication of a high-end facility from where it is produced. Dont be fooled by the aluminum ring. It easily tops all B+W filters I have ever used in terms of ease of attachment and removal. The machining of the threading is so precise it prevents any sticking at all. I have had zero issues in this regard. Optically, it is definitely no worse than B+W. but I dont know if it is better. QC is top notch just like any Zeiss products. Dont be discouraged by the fact that the Zeiss filter is made in Japan. Japanese are equally proud of their craftsmanship as their German counterparts. The extra cost is definitely worth the quality. All my future filters will be Zeiss.

Q: 6. Will this filter screw into a 67-82mm step up ring and can another filter be stacked/screwed into the 82mm Schneider...?

A: Yes this will screw into 67-82 step up ring and it does have front thread

Q: 7. Anyone have issues with reflections? I just purchased and when filming light I'm getting reflections on the glass. Any tips on not getting that?

A: In my former career, I was a motion picture camera assistant. As such, part of my job before each take was to make sure there were no reflections or hot spots of light hitting the front lens element or the filters. I would use a matte box with top and side flaps to get rid of most of the problems. The rule of thumb was if I was using a longer lens, I could take care of it with the matte box and flaps. However, if using a very wide lens, a matte box and flaps are no good because if you set the flaps to get rid of the flare or hot spot, they are visible in the frame. When that happened, I would ask one of the grips to set a flag at the source of the flare, be it a movie light or the sun. If it was a moving shot, the grip would have to "fly" the flag to make sure the light did not hit the lens. Now, what can a regular guy do without a grip department? Use a sunshade or matte box or a french flag. You might be able to move the offending light or the camera enough to get rid of the flare. Just know if you cannot stop the extraneous light from hitting the front end of the lens, it will be in the image to some degree.

Q: 8. will this reduce moire in video of fabric?

A: I don't believe it will reduce it, just soften the effect.

Q: 9. What's the difference between the Vaxis Pure Mist and Black Mist filters please?

A: The Vaxis Pure Mist filter would diffuse light sources and create a softer image while the Vaxis Black Mist filter would diffuse light sources without creating a softer image.

Q: 10. Is there much difference between this filter and the Tiffen Black Pro Mist filter? The Tiffen is $70 cheaper.

A: The Schneider 77mm Hollywood Black Magic filter would have much higher quality glass and construction compared to a lower cost filter. The higher quality glass is why it has a clean glow as mentioned by another user.

[Aluminum] My Nikon Z 50mm f1.8 S lens was too clinical for some types of photo situations. Adding just a little bit of character to a photo to fit the overall theme, without losing any sharpness.

[Aluminum] So easy to change the filter when changing lenses. And the cimage produced is very nice. Very little color shift. And there are hard stops for the ND which is great. The Black mist makes a more filmic image and the CPL helps with skies and also reflections.

[Aluminum] This unit is an All in One filter concept. The multiple adapting ring is brilliant and flawlessly functional. Quick and stable to attach to your lens, functional as advertised, with slight evidence of an X at extreme application of the polarizing and VND feature simultaneously. I am looking forward to years of working with this innovative product.
