Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what is the solution to add an Uv protection filter on this lens?

A: The best option for putting a UV filter in front of the IRIX 21mm T1.5 Cine Lens (Sony E, Feet) would be to use a matte box with filter holders or a filter tray.

Q: 2. I'm assuming this is a strictly manual focusing lens - correct?

A: That is correct. This is a Manual Lens only.

Q: 3. I'm impressed with this lens but how do I get more contrast out of it? and more color? It's rather plain-looking. Filters?

A: The IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 Cine Lens (Canon EF, Feet) is neutral in color and has good contrast generally speaking. You can add color filters to the lens or in post. You can shoot more contrasty lighting or add contrast in post.

Q: 4. Can I use an EF mount IRIX cine lens with a Sigma EF to L mount or like adapter on the new Blackmagic FF cinema camera 6K?

A: Yes, using the Sigma MC-21 adapter, the IRIX 45mm T1.5 Cine Lens can work perfectly on the Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera 6K (Leica L).

Q: 5. Can one interchange lens mounts on these lenses?

A: At this time, Irix is not made user swapable mounts available.

Q: 6. Would it be better if I use the ef-mount version on a mft sensor camera (gh5) with a speed boost or would it better to use mft version of this lens?

A: it is always better to use the native version of the lens.

Q: 7. Is it suitable for 6K Resolution Sensors?

A: The image circle covers full frame sensors, so as long as your cameras sensor supports 6K, this lens will also support 6K. Lenses do not have anything to do with resolution support.

Q: 8. So, has this been updated to work on Arri and Sony PL mounts? Reviews here say it won't work on either.

A: There is no difference between the PL mount on an ARRI or SONY camera, so if this is not mounting properly or not at all, there may be a manufacturing issue, but this is not something we have seen before these occurrences referenced here.

Q: 9. This will be 90mm focal length on MFT body? Is that correct?

A: That is correct. It is doubled.

Q: 10. What is the weight of this lens?

A: 2.43 lb (1.1kg)

[Full Frame] I purchased this lens for my sony FX9 and I shoot with the raw extension. I mostly use the 28/135 F4 sony cine zoom lens. I needed something a bit more wide with a fastest aperture. My dream came true. this lens is excellent, extremely sharp and delivered stunning results. I have tried also the sony 16/35 GM master f2.8.. . but sometimes a real cine lens is better when autofocus(es) has their limitations and when manual focus is required for creativity. highly recommended

[Full Frame] Great lens I have reviewed the first one I purchased. Bought another one for my second camera.

[43.3 mm] I was a little bit skeptical about buying this lens at first considering that I've never heard of Irix before. However, don't let that stop you. This lens is extremely sharp, even at wide-open!!! The footage you can get with this lens at T1.5 is crazy! Not to mention that this lens doesn't have any noticeable color fringing, and is constructed out of a solid metal exterior, and doesn't flare at all when in direct sunlight. If you're looking for a budget cinema lens that punches a lot higher than its price, I can't recommend this lens enough.

[Canon RF] But unfortunately I've heard of some of them coming apart internally. So... hopefully mine lasts, because it certainly makes gorgeous images and is a pleasure to rig and use on set. I'd compare it and cut it with my Zeiss Milvus lenses, no joke.

[21mm] I've been renting cine lenses for years for some of our bigger projects but never pulled the trigger on getting one. I mean, I have the Sigma 18-35 Art (photo) lens and I just can't justify spending 4K on the cine version. But this lens comes at a great price (paid $1,200) which in early 2020, happens to be cheaper than the Xeen primes. Not to mention Canon, Sigma, Zeiss CPs and the rest. -- I've shot a few test shots and the 45 looks very sharp and smooth with no noticeable CA. Focus throw is 180° and the overall feel is solid! - Can't wait for Irix to come out with a couple of more primes.

[11, Rounded] In over 40 years of industrial and feature film making, the Irix primes are my favorite series of prime lenses, favored over the big name lenses that cost 4-5x. They are fast, sharp, have very natural-looking out-of-focus highlights, and the sealing is a bonus for those like us, who shoot a lot of exteriors. Hopefully Irix will soon offer something in the 65mm-85mm range so we can relegate our current short telephoto to the B camera lens set.

[Imperial] It never stoped to amaze me the kind of build this lens has. Nice big and a little on the heavy size. I will compromise well build for fragility, I may also add this has a very nice glass. Overall very satisfied with the lens.

[Imperial] I did a comparison between the Canon CNE 35mm and the IRIX 45mm and if you were not told you could not tell the difference. The sharpness, chromatic aberration, Lens flares, and bokeh looked really similar.

[T16] 8K sharpness, weatherproof, low focus breathing, solid metal build quality, 180 degree focus throw. The list of features go on and on. For the price I have never found a lens like this. I compared for months Sigma Art series, SLR Magic’s, Zeiss Milvus. Personally this lens should sit next to higher price brackets like Sigma Cine, New XEENs, Zeiss CP2’s. Having this lens for a week I can say this lens lives up to every feature. Shooting on my Pocket 6K this thing makes it feel like I have a whole new camera or at least like I’m finally taking full advantage of my sensor. Can’t recommend this lens enough. I plan on buying the brand new 15mm Cine and the 150mm Cine macro all 3 will be the price of a single average priced Cine lens!

[Canon RF] This lens is truly a gem. Superb craftsmanship, sharpness and color rendition., it's a wide angle lens with very little distortion. Pulling focus is a breeze with this lens. With added accessories it has turned my BGH1 into a full-fledged cinema rig.
