Aimed at discerning musicians and engineers, concert venues, equipment rental houses, and event-production companies, the Neumann MCM 114 SET Guitar Clip-On Microphone Systemis a pro-grade instrument microphone configured for close miking a guitar, ukulele, dobro, acoustic bass, or cello. Elevating electret technology to Neumann standards, it delivers a staggering 153 dB maximum SPL to capture the details of both loud and very soft instruments without adding distortion or self-noise. The mic securely clips onto your instrument and works for wired and wireless applications with connectivity that supports traditional XLR mic preamps for recording in the studio and wireless transmitters for performing live on stage.

The MCM 114 SET GUITAR system includes a KK 14 cardioid capsule head, flexible 6" gooseneck, and MC 9 clip for mounting the gooseneck on the instrument. There is also an AC 31 cable with 3.5mm locking connectors for connecting the capsule to either the included MCM 100 48V phantom-powered XLR output-stage module or to the locking mini-jack input found on many Sennheiser wireless transmitters. The system's modular construction is designed to ensure a long service life that lasts for years. Manually assembled in Germany to align with Neumann's high standards, the MCM delivers first-rate tonal consistency plus that Neumann aesthetics and handling.

The MCM system is based around the KK 14 miniature capsule head, a 12mm diameter (small-diaphragm) electret-condenser element that delivers a truly natural, neutral, and reliable sound—even in challenging technical or acoustic situations.

The capsule features a cardioid polar pattern that helps minimize the pickup of bleed from other instruments or stage noise, while allowing greater gain before feedback. Capable of handling an extremely high 153 dB maximum SPL with an ultrawide 130 dB dynamic range, the KK 14 is ideal for close-miking virtually any instrument from bombastic drums to delicate strings.

The 6" MCM's gooseneck securely hold the detachable KK 14 capsule using a connector that allows for rotation without twisting the cable. Its flexible design enables quick and accurate positioning of the mic for optimal sound capture. The built-in elastic suspension bracket is made of sophisticated plastic for excellent absorption of structure-born noise.

The MCM 114 SET GUITAR comes with an MC 9 clip to reliably mount the MCM's gooseneck on the body of a guitar, ukulele, dobro, acoustic bass, or cello. With a self-adjusting spring mechanism, the clip is easy to use and designed to prevent damage to sensitive surfaces on the instruments.

Because it uses electret-condenser technology, the MCM can run on either +48V phantom power from a traditional mic preamp or plug-in power from a compatible wireless transmitter.

With its locking 3.5mm termination, the 6' AC 31 cable can be used to connect the KK 14 to the MCM 100 output stage module  for plugging the mic into a mixing board via XLR. The AC 31 cable can also be used to connect the capsule to a wireless transmitter with Sennheiser-compatible mic-input jack.

Neumann offers three more cables to work with other popular wireless transmitters including Lectrosonics, Shure, Zaxcom, Wisycom, and others.

  • AC 32 cable with LEMO 3-pin connector
  • AC 33 cable with Microdot connector
  • AC 34 cable with 4-pin mini-XLR connector

The MCM is a rugged modular system. Neumann assembles the KK 14 capsule by hand and encapsulates it in a lightweight titanium housing. The gooseneck and all the other components are easily replaceable, ensuring long service life for live and stage performances.

Neumann offers a comprehensive line-up of instrument-specific magnetic, clip-on, clamp, or strap mounting solutions, allowing you to customize your system for use with a wide variety of instruments.

  • MC 1: Clip to mount the gooseneck on the body of a violin, viola, mandolin, and similar instruments
  • MC 2: Clip to mount the gooseneck on the strings of a cello below the bridge
  • MC 3: Clip to mount the gooseneck on the strings of a double bass below the bridge
  • MC 4: Clip to mount the gooseneck on the rib/body of a double bass or similar instrument
  • MC 5: Universal strap clip to mount the gooseneck on an oboe, clarinet, recorder, bassoon, flute, or harp
  • MC 6: Universal clamp to mount the gooseneck on the bell of a trumpet, trombone, saxophone, French horn, or on a percussion instruments or pole stand
  • MC 7: Clip to mount the gooseneck on the rim of a snare, tom, stand tom, or timpani
  • MC 8: Magnetic clip to mount the gooeseneck in an upright piano or grand piano

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can you mount an ak45 capsule on this mount? or does it need another power capsule behind it?

A: The KM 145 is a modular microphone system. Consisting of the AK 45 capsule mounted a top the KM 100 phantom power supply output stage. So it does not need another power supply. The KM 100 is always the output stage for the currently available 7 different capsules. Available are omni diffuse-field equalized, omni free-field equalized, cardioid, wide-angle cardioid, cardioid with bass roll-off, hypercardioid, and figure-8. In addition there are accessories available for different applications. Such as swivel mounts, table stands, goose-necks, stereo mounts, etc.

Q: 2. The unit won't work with the supplied cable and an XLR adaptor the supplied cable into my camera XLR input, Is there a fix?

A: Please be sure that the receiver for the Saramonic Blink Me 2-Person Clip-On Wireless Microphone System is set to "mono" mode when using a single XLR adapter. For "stereo" mode, a 3.5mm to dual XLR Y-cable, like the Saramonic SR-UM10-CC1 3.5mm TRS to Two XLR Male Output Y-Cable for Wireless Mic Systems (B&H # SASRUM10CC1), should be used. Additionally, make sure the camera's input level is set for "mic" and the phantom power setting (48V) is turned off.

Q: 3. Will this lens hood work on the Nikon Z 24-120mm F/4 S lens ? The filter diameter is 77mm also.

A: The Nikon HB-114 Lens Hood is incompatible with the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S Lens (Nikon Z). The hood bayonets onto the outside rim of the lens. The Nikon HB-102 Lens Hood, BH #NIHB10, is included with the 24-120mm lens and can be purchased separately as a replacement.

Q: 4. what is tip and ring signal ?

A: The manufacturer has not provided any details regarding the internal wiring for the connectors on the Neumann MIDI Adapter Set for MT 48 Audio Interface.

Q: 5. can i buy just the mic and conected to my box ?

A: If you have this same exact system and are looking to replace a handheld transmitter, you would have to check with AKG for a replacement.

Q: 6. Does it record each channel separately?

A: Yes. The Saramonic Blink Me 2-Person Clip-On Wireless Microphone System does have a built-in recording feature on the transmitters, allowing them to record audio from each mic directly onto the transmitter's internal memory. Additionally, the receiver has 3 output settings: Mono, allowing you to record the mics mixed; Stereo, separating the mics to the left and right outputs; or Safety Mono, mixing the mics with a full signal on the left and a -6 dB safety track on the right. So you can record audio with the two mics separated onto different channels when using the Stereo output setting.

Q: 7. What type of microphone is recommended for Neumann KU 100?

A: The KU 100 dummy head ships complete with a microphone built into each ear for binaural recording. The unit ships with a 5 pin to dual 3 pin XLR output cable and can be powered via its included AC adapter, AA batteries or phantom power.

Q: 8. is the mic in ERP, DRP or other reference position?

A: The KU 100 is not in ERP or DRP. The KU 100 dummy head is a binaural stereo microphone. It resembles the human head and has two microphone capsules built into the ears. When listening through high-quality headphones it gives the illusion of being right at the scene of the acoustic events.

Q: 9. Does the black mic scrape and show wear easily?

A: No. The Neumann TLM 103 Large-Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone has a durable, well-made finish that is designed to last. It does not scrape off or show wear easily.

Q: 10. Can the receiver mount to a camera or a tripod?

A: This is a table top design and doesn't inherently have any provision for portable applications. You could have a look at the bottom of the module to determine how modifiable it is. Good luck.

[Phantom Power] A small compact mic that has great audio for 2 people. Also the mute button is green when on and red when off which the Board really likes.

[Solid-State] The U87 is now the centerpiece in my studio! Combined with the Grace Pre, this mic really adds a new dimension to vocals. Acoustics guitars have a fuller sound. The detail surpasses my 414. Definately a great deal from B&H!

[Phantom Power] This mic is awesome. I additionally have a Sennheiser MKH416 which has better noise rejection. This Neumann condenser has a preferred frequency response. As a result, this mic is very well suited to live processing with an Apollo x8p or Twin X. I also have a few other mics, but this one is amazing!

[Phantom Power] ...so far anyway! I own 3 Ibanez bass guitars, 1405e , tbt705 and tbt706. I always found other tuners (snark in particular) fail to pick up low B. I had to use harmonic at 12 fret to tune my B string with all other tuners. Not anymore! This Tunano tuner picks it up right away.

Its small, unobtrusive, very responsive, no moving parts to fail. Great design concept.

Very happy bass player!

[Solid-State] I understand all the hype around this mic. The M49V has an authoritative low end without being boxy or boomy. It's articulate in the mids and upper mids (Where I REALLY need the help), without any shrillness or shimmery tinfoil sound at the top. I love this mic :)

[End Address] I record a lot - I mean a lot. I went through the various options, the Sennheiser MHK416 (which I still have - a great mic), the TLM-103, The Stellar X - I should have bought the U87 first. Clean, clear, picks up the dust falling on the floor if that's what you want. It's expensive. You get what you pay for. Absolutely wonderful professional microphone.

[Mono] The NEUMANN U 87Ai is a studio microphone with outstanding performance and an attractive shape. NEUMANN microphones are the best. This company has almost 90 (ninety) years of experience in the manufacture of microphones. Truly amazing.

[Black] I recently bought this and used the microphone both on a major gig and at home. It has a most accurate violin sound, which is incredible considering that it is situated so close to the instrument (you would expect a lot of high frequencies and a thin sound). You don't get any of the room sound, but in combination with my Neumann 184 miking the room, I finally managed to get an accurate violin sound that sounded both focused and full. I would recommend. The only drawback, as with any clip-on, is getting tangled with the cables. But the clip-on itself was very good and easy to use.
